Best Celtics vs. Knicks Game 6 Player Props, ATS Bets: C's To Force Game 7?

The back-and-forth Eastern Conference Semifinal matchup between the Celtics (2) and the Knicks (3) continues with a must-see Game 6 on Friday night at Madison Square Garden. New York is still in the driver's seat thanks to its 3-2 series lead, but the pressure is on Jalen Brunson and Co. to take care of business tonight to avoid having to go on the road in Game 7. Read more NBA playoff betting odds: Jayson Tatum injury shakes up futures oddsboards The Celtics were outstanding in Game 5 with their backs against the wall after losing both Game 4 and star Jayson Tatum to a season-ending Achilles injury on Monday night. If Boston can get another performance like the one it got from Jaylen Brown on Wednesday night (26 points, 8 rebounds, 12 assists), this series will probably require a seventh game. If necessary, Game 7 would take place Sunday evening in Boston. While Brown deserves a ton of credit for his defense on Brunson in Game 5, keeping New York's top scorer in check for the second game in a row will be a massive task for the Celtics' de facto No. 1 scorer right now. Robinson 8+ rebounds (+100 at DraftKings) -- 1 unit Mitchell Robinson has quietly been a rebounding machine the last few games. His 13-rebound night in Game 5 represented his statistical breakout in this series, but he had averaged a solid 7.75 rpg in Games 1-4. In fact, he has been such a force in the paint for the Knicks that with Karl-Anthony Towns struggling on defense and with foul trouble, Robinson and KAT essentially split the center minutes in Game 5. Towns played just under 29 minutes, while Robinson logged just over 23 minutes. While Towns has committed at least four fouls in every game of this series, Robinson was whistled just eight times total in Games 1-5. Obviously, if Towns is once again in foul trouble tonight, that will mean more minutes -- and rebound opportunities -- for Robinson. That being said, the Knicks will continue to rely on both players as much as they can, though that shouldn't prevent Robinson from playing a big role tonight. In fact, Robinson's playing time in Game 6 (and/or Game 7) could increase, especially if the Celtics keep leaning on their only traditional big: 7-foot-2 center Luke Kornet. The latter -- who played less than 18 minutes combined in Games 3 and 4 -- logged nearly 26 minutes on Wednesday. He came through for Boston in a huge way, with 10 points, 9 rebounds, 7 blocks, 1 assist and 1 steal. Expect Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau to keep Robinson on the floor while Kornet is in action, which is all the more reason to like Robinson's props tonight. Assuming he once again plays for close to 25 minutes, he's a great bet to pull down at least 8 rebounds. While his playoff minutes have fluctuated -- especially in the first round against the Pistons -- he's averaging an impressive 13.4 total rebounds per 36 minutes in the postseason (7.4 offensive, 6.0 defensive). To add a bit of context here, Houston's Steven Adams led the league in both total rebounds per 36 minutes (14.8) and offensive rebounds per 36 minutes (7.5) in the regular season -- with no one else leaguewide averaging over 6 offensive rebounds per 36 minutes -- and Robinson's total and offensive rebounding rate in the playoffs compare well to Adams'. With all that in mind, consider a small play on M. Robinson 10+ Rebounds (+245 at DraftKings). Celtics vs. Knicks Game 6 Pick, Best Bets This is one of the toughest games of the playoffs to predict. The spread of less than 3 points tells us that oddsmakers agree with us on that. While it seems like a bad idea to pick against Brunson and the Knicks, especially if you expect this to be decided in the final minutes, Boston is coming off a dominant performance in Game 5. If the Celtics' shots are falling tonight, would it really shock anyone if they're able to keep NY at arm's length? With all due respect to the Knicks, who are suddenly the team under the most pressure now that the Celtics are playing from behind and without Tatum, I'm ultimately going with Boston to find a way to force a Game 7 for two reasons: A) The Celtics looked like the better team in Game 6 (not just based on the scoreboard), as they zeroed in on Brown-on-Brunson as an effective defensive solution and attacking Towns every time they could on offense. B) I have a foolproof (or something like that) strategy of going with the underdog on the moneyline when a matchup truly feels like a coin flip. Jalen Brunson and the Knicks are home underdogs at Madison Square Garden on Saturday in Game 3 of their Eastern Conference Semifinal clash with the Celtics. Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Madison Square Garden promises to be electric on Saturday afternoon for Game 3 of Celtics vs. Knicks. The reigning champs built substantial leads at home in both Games 1 and 2, but New York stormed back to win both those contests in stunning fashion. The Celtics -- who have been one of the best 3-point shooting teams in the league over the last two years -- made just 25-of-100 shots from downtown in those games to put themselves in a 2-0 hole. They nevertheless remain the slight betting favorites in this series, but Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and the Boston supporting cast will need to find their shooting touch ASAP to keep their title defense alive. He didn't exactly dominate the glass early in the Knicks' first-round matchup against the Pistons, though, finishing with single-digit boards in three of the first four games of that series. But he was a force for the Knicks in the paint in both Games 1 and 2 of this series, and we expect that to continue to be the case throughout this matchup. Towns finished Game 1 vs. the Celtics with 14 points and 13 rebounds despite being limited by foul trouble to 31 minutes. He added 21 points and 17 boards in Game 2 as 38-year-old Al Horford, Luke Kornet and Kristaps Porzingis all struggled to box him out. He could have a tougher time today if Porzingis is able to log extended minutes, but that's hardly a distinct possibility amid KP's unknown non-COVID illness, which limited him to 27 total minutes in the first two games of this series. As long as Towns can stay out of foul trouble (which is admittedly a substantial if), expect him to reach at least 12 rebounds today, as he's recorded 18, 14, 13 and 17 boards in the last four NYK-BOS matchups dating back to the regular season. In two other regular-season meetings between these teams this year, he finished with nine rebounds in 28 minutes and seven rebounds in 24 minutes -- solid per-minute numbers, if not massive totals. Celtics vs. Knicks Game 3 Pick, Best Bets The eye test says that it's insane that the Knicks are getting 6 points at home, especially given how well Brunson and Co. played at MSG this year. But while it's worth noting that New York went 27-14 at MSG in the regular season, it's also notable that Boston was much better on the road than at home all season. And the biggest question, obviously, is whether it's realistic to expect the Celtics to shoot as poorly as they did earlier this week for the third consecutive game. This feels like a stay-away for me. An emphatic bounceback win by Boston by a significant margin feels just as likely as another nailbiter won by the Knicks on a huge last-second bucket by Brunson. Cliche as it is, taking the Knicks to get an early boost from the crowd and build at least a slight lead going into the second quarter is tempting -- and the price on NY to win the first quarter (+168) makes it impossible to resist. Let's also go with the Over. There's too much offensive firepower on both rosters for this to be another game where both teams struggle to crack 100 points (and remember, all four regular-season matchups between these teams all cracked 220 total points, with three of them going over 230. Celtics vs. Knicks Game 3 Best Bets: Knicks 1st Quarter Moneyline (+168 at FanDuel) -- 0.5 units Over 207.5 (-112 at DraftKings) -- 1 unit Newsweek may earn an affiliate commission if you sign up through the links in this article. Jayson Tatum Sends Paolo Banchero Message After Magic's Loss to Celtics

Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics closed their first-round series in a 120-89 Game 5 win against the Orlando Magic in the TD Garden. Tatum was the focal point for Boston's closeout win as he contributed 35 points, 10 assists, and eight rebounds on 62.5% shooting. The star-studded matchup between Tatum and Paolo Banchero did not disappoint; Tatum was the No. 3 pick in the 2017 draft out of Duke, while Banchero was the No. 1 pick in the 2022 draft also out of Duke. Banchero averaged 29.4 points and 8.4 rebounds on 43.5% shooting in the five games, while 27-year-old Tatum averaged 31.3 points and 11.3 rebounds on 44.7% shooting in four games (via StatMuse). Orlando Magic forward Paolo Banchero (5) and Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum (0).Nathan Ray Seebeck-Imagn Images Tatum, who is seen as a mentor to Banchero, gave credit to the one-time All-Star after a hard-fought series. Advertisement 'I got to talk to [Banchero] a little bit in the hallway after the game. I didn't say two words to him during the series,' said Tatum. '... He was unbelievable this series. He made it tough on us, he's a matchup nightmare. He's only going to continue to get better and better, and I'm certain we'll have many more battles in the upcoming years.' Banchero only played 46 games this season, largely in part due to missing 34 straight games due to an oblique injury. Despite the smaller sample size compared to his previous two seasons (72 and 80 games played, respectively), the 2023 Rookie of the Year averaged career-highs this season with 25.9 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. The Celtics now await the winner of the New York Knicks and Detroit Pistons for the Eastern Conference Semifinal matchup. Boston will have home-court advantage regardless of the opponent due to their second seed in the conference. Pacers face Cavs in Round 2 after strong playoff start

The Pacers are hitting the road this weekend for an Eastern Conference Semifinal showdown with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Why it matters: Indiana will relinquish the home court advantage that proved beneficial all season as they attempt to take down the top-seeded Cavs. State of play: The Pacers, led by All-Star point guard Tyrese Haliburton, dispatched Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks in five games. The closing moments of the series included a Haliburton game winner in overtime that will probably play in Pacers highlight reels for years to come. The Cavs, meanwhile, are coming off the most lopsided playoff series in NBA history, eviscerating the Miami Heat in four games by a total of 122 points. The big picture: These are two of the league's most lethal offenses, with deep and flexible rosters, lights-out shooters and elite coaching. It'll be a high-scoring best-of-seven series. Players to watch: For the Pacers: Haliburton, whose height at the guard position (6'5") makes him one of the NBA's savviest passers. He'll be a handful on the perimeter for Cleveland defenders. For the Cavs: Donovan Mitchell, who's currently tied with Michael Jordan — heard of him? — for the most consecutive 30-point performances in the first game of a playoff series. He'll be the solo leader if he drops 30 on Sunday. Flashback: This is the fourth time the Pacers and Cavs have met in the NBA Playoffs. The Pacers had a 3-1 record against Cleveland during the regular season. Yes, but: Two of those wins happened during the final week of the regular season when the Cavs were resting many of their key starters. 👀 What we're watching: If the Pacers' deep bench can continue to be a difference maker. Indiana has seven players averaging at least 10 points per game in the postseason. 💭 Justin's prediction: As someone who has called Central Indiana home for the past 21 years, I've supported the Pacers' strong season and Haliburton's late-game heroics. But that ends now. I'm from Cleveland, and the first jersey I ever owned as a kid said " Nance 22" on the back. Cavs in six — a polite prediction that hopefully won't get me cussed out by Pacers' fans during my next Kroger run. 💭 Axios Cleveland reporter Sam Allard's prediction: Cavs in six. In the final week of the regular season, the Cavs' third string gave the Pacers' starters a run for their money. I like our chances at full strength. The bottom line: Rocket Arena will be bumping as the Cavs seek their first Eastern Conference Finals appearance without LeBron James on the roster since 1992.
