"Naval Defender 25" exercise concludes in Jubail

Saudi Gazette report JUBAIL — The Saudi Naval Forces and their US counterparts concluded on Monday the "Naval Defender 25" exercise at King Abdulaziz Naval Base, the site of the Eastern Fleet, in Jubail in the Eastern Province. The exercise was part of military cooperation to enhance maritime security, protect territorial waters, and enhance joint combat readiness. During the exercise, the two forces implemented advanced combat scenarios, such as dealing with live ammunition against hostile targets, formations of naval battleships, maritime rescue operations, countering enemy boats and drones, and live firing. The exercise also included training in anti-submarine warfare and naval formations, contributing to enhancing combat readiness in complex maritime environments.

KOTA KINABALU (May 7): Several assets of the Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM) in Sabah will also participate in the 17th Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA'25) starting this May 20. According to Eastern Fleet Commander Vice Admiral Datuk Khir Junaidi Idris, the assets include four ships, two helicopters, and one submarine for the five-day exhibition at the prestigious annual event. 'TLDM will send four ships and two helicopters to Langkawi, namely KD Kelantan, KD Selangor, KD Rencong and KD Sundang for display. Additionally, two helicopters and one submarine will also be exhibited there,' he explained. When met by the media after paying a courtesy visit to Sabah Governor Tun Musa Aman at Istana Seri Kinabaluon Wednesday, Junaidi said the visit was to brief and invite Tun Musa to LIMA'25. 'In conjunction with TLDM's 91st anniversary, celebrated last April 27, we would like to inform and invite His Excellency Tun to attend the LIMA'25 exhibition in Langkawi, which will take place from May 20 to 24,' he said. Junaidi, who took over as Eastern Fleet Commander last November, was accompanied by Maritime Region 2 Commander Rear Admiral Yusne Mokhtar. He also reaffirmed TLDM's commitment to the Sabah government regarding the safety of the people and the state's waters. 'We wish to express our cooperation between TLDM and the Sabah government, as well as to Tun Musa, and thank Tun for all the assistance and collaboration extended to TLDM. 'We also assure Tun that TLDM will always be in Sabah to safeguard the security and well-being of the people, especially Sabah's waters,' he said. In related developments, Junaidi also urged Sabahans to continue cooperating to ensure Sabah's waters remain safe and secure. 'We held the Eastern Fleet Open Day last week at TLDM Sepanggar Base, and next week, we will hold another Eastern Fleet Open Day in Sandakan on May 10 and 11. 'So, all Sabahans are invited to attend in large numbers in Sandakan, as well as the biggest event yet in Langkawi, where international exhibitions will be held from May 20 to 24,' he added.

Kota Kinabalu: Members of the public were granted a rare behind-the-scenes look at maritime operations as the Royal Malaysian Navy open its doors for the Eastern Fleet Open Day at the Kota Kinabalu Naval Base, recently. The two-day event held from May 3 – 4 saw thousands flock to the base to explore seven naval vessels, including the submarine KD Tunku Abdul Rahman and patrol ship KD Kelantan, with many visitors boarding warships for the first time. 'This is more than just an exhibition, it is our chance to show Malaysians how we protect our waters and inspire future generations to serve,' said Eastern Fleet Commander Vice Admiral Datuk Khir Junaidi Idris, who officiated the opening. The Navy's Special Forces (Paskal) staged a dramatic hostage rescue drill, while combat boats and an AW139 helicopter simulated maritime patrol operations Visitors were given the opportunity to try on diving gear with naval divers and operated radar systems under guidance from crew members. Over 120 local food vendors and exhibitions from various security agencies created a festival atmosphere. KOTA KINABALU: The Bah Kano Armada Timur Open Day 2025 was officially launched with much fanfare by Eastern Fleet Commander Vice Admiral Datuk Khir Junaidi Idris at the Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM) Base here on Saturday. Held in conjunction with TLDM's anniversary, the two-day event from Saturday to Sunday offers the public a close-up experience of naval life, including guided visits aboard seven TLDM vessels and the KD Tunku Abdul Rahman submarine. Crowd favourites include a silent drill performance by TLDM's Lumut team, an air and maritime demonstration by Paskal, four combat boats, and an AW139 maritime operations helicopter. Also featured are 122 food vendors and exhibits from the Malaysian Army, Maritime Enforcement Agency, Submarine Command Headquarters, and other military and civil service agencies.
