Amazon has launched the third-generation Echo Show 5 smart display in India. It is just as small as its predecessor but packs a seemingly better sound system and improved microphones. The Echo Show 5 Gen 3 is available for buying at a price of Rs 10,999. Amazon says that this is its 'discounted' price though it doesn't say for how long. Per its listing page, the speaker cum smart display has an MRP of Rs 11,999. The Gen 3 Echo Show 5 looks almost identical to the second-generation model which is to say that it is also small and petite. You can think of it as a mini version of the larger Echo Show 8. It has a smaller 5.5-inch display which makes it more attuned for serving as a bedside alarm clock rather than a full-scale digital photo frame or video consumption device the Echo Show 8 is. It is touchscreen. Amazon says it is powered by a 'new, faster AZ2 Neural Edge processor' and comes with an improved microphone array so it should pick up voice commands bit more effortlessly. The speaker is also getting an upgrade now boasting of a 1.7-inch rear-facing system that is billed for its ability to offer 'double the bass and clearer vocals compared to the previous generation.' Though the design feels familiar on first look, Amazon says it has made some refinements with more rounded edges and 'infinity cover glass' for the display. The user interface is also apparently improved providing more comfortable viewing experience even at night. It has a built-in camera with a privacy shutter so it can do video calls. You can use Alexa to ask the speaker to do a bunch of things for you from playing music to controlling compatible smart home appliances, including security cameras and video doorbells. The Echo Show 5 Gen 3 is available in a choice of Charcoal and Cloud Blue colours and can be purchased through Flipkart, and select offline stores of Reliance Digital and Croma. The bigger Echo Show 8 is available for Rs 13,999 while the flagship Echo Show 10 for Rs 24,999.
