The Amazon Echo Show 8 is under $130 and Aussies are calling it their ‘favourite family assistant ever'

It's time to turn your house into a smart home. Amazon's Echo Show 8 (2nd Gen) is currently 44 per cent off, down from $229 to just $129, and honestly, it might just be the hardest-working (and most entertaining) device you'll ever own. This clever 8-inch smart display is like having your own personal assistant, newsreader, DJ, chef, home security guard and children's entertainer in one sleek touchscreen device. And yes, you can even ask it to play fart noises with new command that is sure to send the kids into fits of laughter. Here's what makes it such a winner: One-tap access to everything: Check your calendar, to-do list, traffic updates, weather, or news headlines all in one glance. Works like a dream with Alexa: Control smart light bulbs, security cameras and more using just your voice. Built-in camera for video calls: With auto-framing that keeps you centred, you'll always look your best (even on those Sunday catch-ups with Mum). Entertainment hub: Stream movies, shows and music from Netflix, Prime Video, Spotify and Apple Music. Photo frame feature: Display your favourite snaps in style with adaptive colour and Amazon Photos integration. But where the Echo Show 8 really shines is in its family-friendly extras. New research from Amazon Alexa found nearly half of Aussie parents, 47 per cent, feel like they've forgotten how to be silly under the weight of adulting. Which is exactly why Alexa's Let's Get Silly mode was created, you only need to say one thing – ' Alexa, Let's Get Silly '. From dance parties and sound quizzes to silly impressions and a new Silly Farts feature, this smart screen brings genuine laughs and bonding moments for the whole family. Parental controls mean it's totally safe for kids, too, with filtered content and no sneaky purchases allowed. So whether you're catching up on the news, calling Gran, , Echo Show 8 has the whole family covered.

Amazon rolls out Alexa+ to more Early Access users

Access to Amazon's new AI-enhanced voice assistant, Alexa+, is expanding. The company has started notifying users who signed up for the Early Access program that they can now activate Alexa+. It's been a few months since Amazon first demoed the smarter version of Alexa, saying at the time that it would begin rolling out to the first batch of users in March before coming to more people in waves over the subsequent months, prioritizing Echo Show 8, 10, 15, and 21 owners. According to an Amazon spokesperson, "hundreds of thousands" of customers have tried out Alexa+ so far. For those who got Alexa+ in the initial Early Access phase, though, the assistant arrived without many of the features the company touted during its February announcement. The Washington Post , citing internal company documents, reported that this is because those tools didn't "yet meet Amazon's standards for public release." In a footnote on its Early Access signup page, Amazon notes that some of the features shown are still in development. Per Amazon's email on Friday to the latest wave of users, you'll only need to activate and set up Alexa + on one device. From there, any other compatible devices you own will automatically be upgraded. Alexa+ is said to be more conversational and capable of handling more complex tasks than the original assistant.

The Amazon Fire TV stick HD is down to its lowest-ever price in the Spring Sale

Amazon has launched its annual Spring Deal Days sale, a week-long shopping event bringing big savings to everything from air fryers and robot vacuum cleaners to laptops, televisions, smartphones and home security devices. I've spotted one pretty impressive deal in the sale. Right now the Amazon Fire TV Stick HD has 38 per cent off, bringing the price of the no-fuss streaming dongle down to just £24.99. You'll find plenty of deals on many of Amazon 's most popular own-brand products in the rest of the sale, like the Ring battery video doorbell (was £99.99, now £59.99, The Echo Show 8 (was £149.99, now £104.99, and Kindle Paperwhite (was £42.99, now £38.99, have been discounted too. The Amazon Spring Deal Days sale runs from now until 31 March and features thousands of deals on products across most categories. Some discounts will hang around for the duration of the event, while some will only be available while stock lasts, so be sure to check IndyBest for the latest deals as they drop. Whether your TV doesn't have smarts or the interface is a little slow and clunky, you can add or upgrade its capabilities cheaply with the Amazon Fire TV stick HD. The dongle and remote control let you access entertainment from all of the most popular streaming services – including Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video and Apple TV+ – as well as watch live TV, listen to music and control your smart home with voice commands. More affordable than Roku's excellent streaming stick 4K (£44.99, this version of the Amazon Fire TV stick only outputs at 1080p rather than full 4K, which is perfect if your TV is a little older or if your streaming subscription is only providing full HD video.
