Deputy tracks down car, identity theft suspect

(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — A woman was arrested after she was allegedly found in possession of the keys to a stolen car, financial documents, as well as methamphetamine. According to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office (EPSO), shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 10, deputies were conducting a patrol check at the Econo Lodge on Panamint Court, near the intersection of Peterson Road and Highway 24, when they spotted a black Chevrolet Silverado displaying a fake temporary license plate. Further investigation revealed the Chevrolet was reported stolen in March 2025. EPSO said no one was in the car at the time. Deputies contacted the hotel's staff and subsequently located 33-year-old Brandy Cheek in one of the hotel rooms. Man who pleaded to ID theft up for probation violation

Jan. 30—Zachary Keith Brigman, 37, who was given a suspended sentence of 13-to-25 months for felony ID theft late last year, is up for a probation violation. Brigman was sentenced Oct. 23, 2024 in a case that involved over $100,000 in attempted theft. Brigman had no prior criminal convictions, but had multiple traffic-related infractions listed on eCourts. Brigman, who also pleaded guilty to obtaining property by false pretense, has a probation violation set for Feb. 25. In a court document, probation officer Charity A. Moore stated that Brigman failed to obtain a substance abuse assessment, failed to pay anything toward court costs of $890 and tested positive for meth, marijuana, opiates and amphetamines on Dec. 18, 2024. On Oct. 28, 2024, felony ID theft, obtaining property by false pretense and several other charges were dismissed from a linked case in regard to Brigman's wife, Amanda Marie Brigman, 34. "The state has insufficient evidence to proceed on the charges against defendant," a court document states, noting that Zachary Brigman took responsibility for all criminal conduct in the case. The Brigmans were arrested Aug. 31, 2022 at an Econo Lodge in Sanford when police said they found drug paraphernalia, methamphetamine and Michael Thomas Humphrey's debit card number in a notebook. In a court document filed by Detective Sgt. G.S. Connick, he said the couple used Amazon to try to make purchases and withdrew cash from Humphrey's debit card with the Cash App. Zachary Brigman attempted to steal $99,615 and successfully stole $28,210 in cash, the document states.
