BMW says goodbye to 8 Series with Limited Edition M heritage model

BMW is preparing to give the current 8 Series a send-off worthy of its grand touring legacy. With production of the model expected to conclude next year, the brand has unveiled the Edition M Heritage, a 500-unit special designed as a tribute to the original E31-generation 8 Series of the 1990s. Built on the M850i xDrive Gran Coupé platform, the Edition M Heritage revives some of the most iconic paint finishes from the first-generation 8 Series. Customers can choose from Bright Red, Mauritius Blue, Cosmos Black, Oxford Green or Daytona Violet, all of which were available on the E31 between 1990 and 1999. Every example comes with a carbon-fibre roof marked by the M division's signature tri-colour stripes, complemented by unique 20-inch alloy wheels. The M Sport Professional package, normally an optional extra, is fitted as standard and includes uprated brakes, black callipers and additional black exterior detailing. Inside, the upgrades continue with M Sport seats trimmed in Alcantara and black Merino leather with diamond stitching. Alcantara extends to the headliner, dashboard and door panels, while matte carbon-fibre accents bring a motorsport-inspired edge to the cabin. M tri-colour stitching appears throughout, alongside unique badging on the cupholder cover and illuminated doorsills, each bearing the 'M850i Edition M Heritage' script and the car's individual number out of 500. Underneath, the Edition M Heritage is mechanically identical to the standard M850i xDrive Gran Coupé. Power comes from a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 producing 523 bhp and 750Nm of torque, channelled through an eight-speed automatic gearbox to all four wheels. Performance remains formidable, with 0–100km/h achieved in 3.9 seconds and a limited top speed of 249km/h. BMW is offering the Edition M Heritage as a fully equipped package with no optional extras. Features such as the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System and the Driving Assistance Professional Package come as standard, leaving the customer with just one decision: which of the five heritage paint colours to choose for their slice of BMW history.

The car, based on the M850i xDrive Gran Coupe, will be limited to just 500 units, with buyers able to choose from some excellent colour finishes including Bright Red, Mauritius Blue, Cosmos Black, Oxford Green and Daytona Violet. It also comes with a carbon fibre roof adorned with M tri-colour stripes, special 20-inch alloy wheels and the M Sport Professional package - all as standard. This also includes upgraded brakes, black calipers and additional black exterior trim. Inside, buyers can expect plenty of luxury with Alcantara and black Merino leather seats featuring diamond stitching. Alcantara also lines the headliner, dashboard and parts of the door panels. Matte carbon fibre accents and M tri-colour stitching are also used throughout. As you'd expect with the 8 Series, it packs plenty of oomph - retaining the same power as the standard M850i, with a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 523 horsepower. That's good for a 0-60 mph time of 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph. The 8 Series' discontinuation was announced at the beginning of the year and various sources close to BMW have told us it will cease globally sometime in the middle of 2026. BMW M135 is a power-packed hot-hatch that's precise, solid & slick… everything about it is 'sheer driving pleasure' Sadly, no direct successor has been planned. The Edition M Heritage has been quoted at a price of $131,575, which is roughly £97,000 ,and a fair chunk pricier than the standard M850i Gran Coupe. Production of this exclusive model will begin in late 2025, with deliveries expected in early 2026. The model will be distributed to "a few select markets around the world". This comes as, back in May, BMW said jobs at its Swindon Plant "are currently being assessed," casting doubt over the futures of workers. The carmaker announced that it was axing 180 jobs from its Oxford factory amid uncertainty surrounding recently hiked US tariffs. In March, US President Donald Trump declared that a 25% levy would be put in place on all vehicles imported to America from the UK - which has put a significant strain on the British automobile industry.

BMW Says Goodbye to the 8 Series With Stunning Heritage Colors

BMW is aiming to send off the 8 Series with a retro-inspired bang. The big grand tourer, rumored to end production next year, is getting a limited Edition M Heritage model to celebrate the original car from the 1990s. And the colors are excellent . Based on the M850i xDrive Gran Coupe and limited to just 500 examples, the Edition M Heritage pays homage to the E31-generation 8 Series , sold from 1990 to 1999, with an array of colors available on the original car. Buyers will have a choice between Bright Red, Mauritius Blue, Cosmos Black, Oxford Green, or Daytona Violet. The special touches don't stop there. No matter which color you choose, the Edition M Heritage comes with a carbon roof with M tri-color stripes, along with special 20-inch alloy wheels. The M Sport Professional package, usually an optional extra, also comes standard. It adds things like better brakes, black calipers, and more black exterior trim. There are more changes inside. The M Sport seats are sheathed in Alcantara and black Merino leather stitched in a diamond pattern. Alcantara also covers the headliner, the dashboard, and parts of the door panels, while the dash is coated in matte carbon fiber. There's also tri-color M stitching everywhere, along with a cupholder cover and doorsill plates that read "M850i Edition M Heritage" and "1/500." Photo by: BMW Photo by: BMW Photo by: BMW The Edition M Heritage's mechanicals are unchanged from the normal M850i xDrive Grand Coupe. That means a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V-8 under the hood making 523 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. Thrust gets to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic, with BMW quoting a 0-60 time of 3.9 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 155 miles per hour. BMW makes it clear there are no options available for the Edition M Heritage—it'll come equipped with everything standard. That means things like the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System and the Driving Assistance Professional Package are included. The only thing the customer needs to do is pick a paint color. That means it'll be expensive. The Edition M Heritage carries an MSRP of $131,575, including a $1,175 destination charge—just over $23,000 more than a normal M850i Gran Coupe. Production is set to begin towards the end of 2025, with first deliveries planned for early next year. 26 Source: BMW More on the 8 Series The BMW M8 Gets One Last Power Boost Before It's Gone This Beautiful Widebody BMW 8 Series Hides an M5-Sourced V-10 Get the best news, reviews, columns, and more delivered straight to your inbox, daily. back Sign up For more information, read our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use .
