Edits Adds Enhanced Video Cropping, Provides Tips on Video Quality

This story was originally published on Social Media Today. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily Social Media Today newsletter. Instagram continues to roll out updates for its new Edits app, though this week's feature roll out is more limited than previous weeks. This week, Instagram has added enhanced cropping options, which will make it easier to trim and refine your content by selecting a specific area or aspect ratio. So now, you'll have more options to customize and clarify your content to fit different formats, which could be helpful in building out your video content library. In addition to this, Edits product lead Tom Bender has also shared some tips on how to create high quality content using Edits' various output control functions. Bender says that Reels with higher visual quality get more engagement, and if you want to improve your output quality, you can explore these settings: Resolution - Edits supports HD (1080x1920), 2K (1440x2560), and 4K (2160x3840). Bender recommends filming and exporting at 2K, which will ensure optimal sharpness in your clips. 'You can use 4K if you want a super sharp archive, but your IG audience won't see a difference, and it will be slower to edit.' Frame Rate - Edits supports 24, 30, and 60 frames per second. Bender advises that creators should experiment with the Edits camera to see which look best fits your content: '24 is the standard for films and has a dreamy motion blur look. 30 is the default for most videos. 60 looks fluid and hyper-real, like reality TV.' Dynamic Range - Edits supports standard dynamic range (SDR) and high dynamic range (HDR). Bender advises that creators should try both in the Edits camera to asses which they like the look of: 'HDR preserves a broader range of color and contrast, which can make your video more engaging [but] some viewers don't like the look of HDR.' Sharing – Bender also advises that you should use the integrated 'Share to Instagram' button after exporting your clips from Edits, as it can help to ensure that IG viewers see a higher quality version - 'because we can optimize this flow and minimize re-encodes.' Some valuable pointers, which could help you maximize your usage of Meta's new video app. You can check out the previous feature updates for Edits here, here and here, while you can download Edits on iOS or Android. Meta Unveils Edits App to Boost Creator Content Across the Region

Meta has launched Edits, a new video editing app aimed at empowering digital creators, during its first regional event in partnership with Creators HQ in the UAE. Held at Creators HQ — the Middle East's first dedicated content creator hub — the event introduced Edits through a workshop titled Mastering the Edit , offering hands-on experience with the app's advanced features. Available for free on iOS and Android, Edits provides creators with a powerful all-in-one toolkit, streamlining everything from production to publishing. Features include green screen background replacement, auto-generated multilingual subtitles, audio enhancement, and watermark-free high-resolution exports. The app supports videos up to 10 minutes and integrates seamlessly with platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube Shorts. This marks the first major initiative following Meta's strategic partnership with Creators HQ, announced at the 1 Billion Followers Summit in Dubai earlier this year. Moon Baz, Director of Global Partnerships at Meta, called the collaboration a 'milestone in supporting the growth of the content creation industry across the region.' He added that the app is designed to help creators produce 'meaningful, innovative content' that contributes positively to communities. Creators HQ Managing Director Dr. Mohammad AlGhfeli said the partnership will advance the digital media landscape and help creators broaden their reach. 'This collaboration supports our mission to empower creators with tools that inspire creativity and drive social impact,' he said. Meta executives Samer Jamal and Bahjat Hindi led a live demonstration, showcasing how Edits can elevate storytelling through short-form video. Meta selected Creators HQ as the launch venue, recognising its growing influence as a regional and global hub for digital creators. News Source: Emirates News Agency

Meta Adds More Creative Options to Edits App

This story was originally published on Social Media Today. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily Social Media Today newsletter. Meta's certainly staying true to its word on rolling out regular updates to its new 'Edits' video editing app, with another round of new Edits features now available to users. First off, Meta's adding new 'beat markers' to help you align your video clips to the rhythm of your audio backing. As you can see in this example, beat markers will make it easier to create clips that move in-time with your chosen musical accompaniment, which can make for more stand-out, engaging videos. It's a handy, simplified editing option, that can significantly improve your clips. You still need to carefully time and place your footage, but it's easier than trying to manually edit in time with music. (For context, TikTok's video editing app CapCut also has similar beat-matching tools, including its AI-powered 'auto-beat' feature.) Meta's also adding more elements to its 'Inspiration' tab, that'll make it easier to utilize audio from another clip, or replicate the style in your own videos. While it's also adding more animation and filter options to your editing tools. As noted, Meta's staying true to its pledge to keep updating the app. Edits was launched to all users on April 22nd, and since then, Meta's already announced two rounds of updates with new features for the app. And it's got more coming. In the lead-up to the launch of Edits, Meta outlined a range of coming features, including AI-generated background editing, still image animation, and collaboration tools. Those aren't available as yet, but they are coming, while Meta's also looking to add an AI feature that will enable you to change the entire context of any clip. These more advanced elements could make Edits a must-have video editing option. I mean, it's already pretty good, especially for a free app (and worth noting that its coming AI features may require Meta to charge users for access). But more features will make it even more valuable, and with Meta's AI capacity continuing to expand, its ability to incorporate more immersive, engaging AI options, in particular, could be interesting. Meta says these new Edits features are available in the latest version of the app. Error in retrieving data Sign in to access your portfolio Error in retrieving data Error in retrieving data Error in retrieving data Error in retrieving data

TikTok Adds New Option to Animate Still Images with AI

This story was originally published on Social Media Today. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily Social Media Today newsletter. TikTok's launching a new AI-powered feature that'll enable you to turn any static image into a video clip via your TikTok Story. As you can see in this example sequence, TikTok's new 'AI Alive' option will digitally animate your static images, turning them into videos based on your image source. As explained by TikTok: 'We all know a photo can say a thousand words, and TikTok aims to take this new form of visual storytelling even further. With 'AI Alive,' creators can now easily animate their photos and tell richer, more visually engaging stories for their communities.' TikTok says that AI Alive, available within TikTok's Story Camera, will use 'intelligent editing tools' to transform static images into 'captivating, short-form videos enhanced with movement, atmospheric and creative effects.' Though, of course, results will vary. There's already a range of filter options and tools that provide similar capacity, on TikTok, Instagram, and Snap, and sometimes these AI animations look great, and feel like an actual video clip. But things can also get real weird, real fast, as faces distort, and limbs replicate, and what was a simple, fun animation turns into a horror show of bizarre visual mutations. But it's another option to consider, and TikTok's clearly confident that most of the results produced by the option will look good enough to use. Interestingly, Instagram is also looking to add similar functionality to its CapCut clone 'Edits,' which it previewed ahead of the launch of its video editing app. Maybe TikTok's trying to get in first, as a means to fight back against IG for replicating its video editing platform. Either way, it's another AI tool to consider, and another way to create interesting, maybe weird, creations on TikTok, that you can share in your Stories. TikTok says that you can use the new AI Alive feature within the Stories camera, by tapping the blue "+" on the top of the Inbox or Profile page and choosing a single photo from your Story Album. 'After creating and posting your AI Alive Story, people can view the story from within the For You and Following feeds, as well as on your profile page, giving your followers a variety of ways to connect with your content.'

Instagram Adds New Features to Its ‘Edits' Video Editing App

This story was originally published on Social Media Today. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily Social Media Today newsletter. It's only been out for a week, and Instagram has already launched its first round of updates for its Edits video editing app, with more fonts, more voice effects, simplified editing, and more now available in the app. As you can see in this overview, you now have a range of additional voice and font options to choose from to customize your Edits video creations. As per Meta: 'We now have 125 fonts for you to add personality to your text and match your style. You can also add depth and emotion to your voiceovers with 15 effects to choose from.' So a lot of font options, and plenty of vocal effects for you to play with in-stream. Meta's also added a new 'Apply all' option within its editing suite, making it easier to apply filters, effects, transitions and adjustments to all of your clips at once 'to help expedite your creative process.' These are in addition to the many effects and editing tools already available in the app, including multi-channel tracking, expanded video effects, and the capacity to download your clips from the app without an IG watermark. All of these tools are available for free, at least for now, with Instagram seeking to make these new tools available to the widest possible audience. But it has also suggested that it may need to charge for future additions, especially advanced AI-based options that require significant compute. But right now, you can download and use these features straight away, and Instagram says that it'll be looking to roll out updates like this weekly, as it seeks to build the best video editing tool. Will it be better than CapCut? Well, it probably depends on your specific usage. But it's likely worth a look either way. Edits is now available in both the App Store and Google Play Store.
