Fire destroys buildings in Telupid, Sandakan

TELUPID: Several commercial and residential buildings here and in Sandakan were destroyed in separate fire incidents early Sunday. In Telupid, five wooden shop houses, a row of 13-door rental houses and a semi-wooden residential home were destroyed. Advertisement Beluran Fire and Rescue Station Chief Edoen Macheal said emergency services received the distress call at 1.09am and arrived at the scene at 3.23am. The operation ended at 6.28am with no casualties reported. In Sandakan, a former heavy machinery workshop on Jalan Pertukangan, Batu 1.5, was 95 per cent destroyed by fire. Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station Chief Jimmy Lagung said they were alerted at 1.35am and reached the location by 1.41am. Advertisement The workshop building was severely damaged, while an adjacent workers' quarters sustained 5 per cent fire damage. Operations were completed by 2.07am with no injuries reported. Beluran Fire and Rescue Station chief Edoen Macheal said they were alerted by the Beluran Police Station at 10.19am on Wednesday. Initial investigations revealed the man, identified as Mansius Yahsu, was last seen walking home after visiting his mother in Kampung Sinaputan, Tagas-Tagas area. His disappearance was only noticed when his younger sibling informed authorities that he had not returned as usual. Published on: Thursday, May 29, 2025 Published on: Thu, May 29, 2025 By: Mardinah Jikur Text Size: BELURAN: A 42-year-old man was injured after the 10-ton lorry he was driving skidded off the road and plunged into a 10-foot-deep drain at Jalan Berkat Setia, Sapi Nangoh, earlier this evening. Beluran Fire and Rescue Station chief Edoen Macheal said the victim was rescued by firefighters, given first aid, and sent to a nearby hospital by Health Ministry ambulance for further treatment. The emergency call was received at 4.36 pm, and the team of six arrived at the scene 50km from the station at 5,40 pm.
