Kaizer Chiefs midfield star Edson Castillo considering exit

Kaizer Chiefs may face an unexpected midfield shake-up as Edson Castillo reportedly considers a move away from Naturena. The Venezuelan international, who enjoyed a stellar debut season, now finds his future clouded by internal doubts and increasing competition within the squad. Castillo, 31, quickly won over the Amakhosi faithful by netting five goals in his first 32 appearances. However, his second campaign fell apart after he suffered a broken fibula, restricting him to just seven appearances throughout the season. While the midfielder made his return towards the end of the term, concerns within the technical team remain unresolved. Chiefs renewed Castillo's contract in February with a one-year deal that includes an extension option. Despite that, whispers of uncertainty from within the club have prompted his camp to begin exploring alternatives, especially with playing time no longer guaranteed. A source close to the player revealed. 'Edson (Castillo) is a national team player, and he wants to play, he needs to play. But they are keeping their options open. Because it looks like they are not sure about him and the part he will play at Chiefs going forward.' Incoming head coach Nasreddine Nabi reportedly wouldn't oppose Castillo's potential departure. This stance could give Chiefs added flexibility to attract new foreign signings, something the club is keen on as it restructures ahead of the 2025/2026 campaign. If Castillo leaves, Kaizer Chiefs would lose a seasoned campaigner with valuable international experience. However, with Nabi looking to build a new-look side, the decision could free up a foreign spot to inject fresh energy into the squad. Should Kaizer Chiefs let Edson Castillo go?
