Pastor's unlikely excuse after he was caught on camera wearing a woman's wig and underwear
A Brazilian pastor is facing backlash after he was filmed wearing women's lingerie and a wig in public.
The video, which went viral on Monday, showed Eduardo Costa donning blue underwear and a blonde hairpiece as he strolled around a parking lot next to a bar in the central city of Goiânia, about 800 miles north west of Rio de Janeiro.
The evangelical pastor took to social media later in the day to claim that he had chosen the attire as part of an 'investigation'.
Costa said that the owner of the video attempted to extort him and pay up by noon, local time, on Monday.
Costa refused and the footage was uploaded on Goiânia Mil Graus, a social media site in Brazil.
'I mistakenly ended up putting on a wig and shorts to try to find an address,' the pastor said as his wife stood in the background.
'I was doing serious work, an investigation of personal interest,' Costa added.
It's unknown when the video was recorded or what Costa was investigating.
The religious leader said he decided to wear the wig and women's underwear because he wanted to disguise his identity as part of a personal investigation
'Someone filmed me, tried to expose me, and then demanded money to keep the video from being published,' Costa added.
'This is extortion, and I will not remain silent in the face of it.'
Surveillance camera footage leaked Tuesday also showed Costa dressed in lingerie the evening of August 6.
The religious leader could be seen wearing a G-string as he posed in front of his car and then stepped inside to drive away.
Costa has yet to provide a statement regarding the latest video.
According to local media, the person who recorded Costa alleged that he 'uses God to make money' and that he frequented bars around town.
One person, who claimed to have been employed by the pastor, alleged that it was not the first time he had been caught wearing women's clothing.
'His wife, who is now his ex, caught him in a little red dress near the motels,' they said.
'It was a huge mess. I saw the whole thing.'
