Man dies after being hit by 2 cars in Southeast DC, police say

WASHINGTON () — D.C. police are investigating a deadly pedestrian crash that happened Tuesday night on DC-295. The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said on April 22, at around 11:34 p.m., officers responded to the northbound lanes of DC-295 near the Pennsylvania Avenue exit in Southeast D.C. for reports of a crash. He was taken to the hospital, where he died. He was identified as 47-year-old Edward Pearson. Preliminarily, MPD said a 2017 GMC Sierra pickup truck pulled over on the highway because its truck bed cover was loose. The driver and Pearson got out to secure the cover. A red 2005 Chrysler Sebring then improperly merged and hit the back of the GMC and Pearson, according to police. After that, a 2013 Toyota Avalon also struck the GMC and Pearson, who was in the roadway after being hit by the Chrysler. Both the Avalon and Chrysler drivers stayed at the scene. The driver and passenger of the Chrysler had to be taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
