Nets' Egor Demin is determined to show his shooting ability in the NBA
Brooklyn Nets guard Egor Demin came into the 2025 NBA Draft with the reputation of being a questionable shooter based off his freshman season at BYU. The main reason that Brooklyn selected Demin with the eighth overall pick in the Draft is his size and versatility, but the Russian is determined to show off his shooting ability at the NBA level in the 2025-26 season. "(It) feels good. Obviously coming here (Las Vegas), the shooting was my biggest question," Demin said during his NBA TV interview during the Las Vegas Summer League. Demin played three games in Las Vegas and averaged 11.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 40.7% from the field and 43.5% from behind the three-point line. The three-point accuracy is something Demin's proud of. "Not my question, right?," Demin continued. "The question of people about me, it's exciting time to really prove it. Prove that I can really shoot because obviously I spent a lot of time on the court practicing before getting in the draft, right? In the workouts, and really focusing on how can I be efficient from every type of shots." Demin, 19, likely dulled the noise surrounding his outside shooting for the time being, but he will still have to show that he can do it while probably being the starting point guard next season. Demin is part of the Brooklyn 2025 Draft class where all of the players have to prove that their shooting will eventually catch up to the rest of their game, at least to the point where head coach Jordi Fernandez can trust them to take those shots in the regular season. Demin got the chance to show what he looks like against the kind of NBA competition that is typical for the summer league, but the NBA when the games count is a different animal. To that point, Demin showed some confidence in taking the shots that he will probably get based on the attention that players like Michael Porter Jr. and Cam Thomas (if he re-signs) will draw on a nightly basis. HoopsHype does not rank Nets PG Egor Demin among the projected top-26 PGs for the 2025-26 NBA season. I'm projecting for Demin to start at PG for Brooklyn next season so this could be an indication of some expected struggles for Demin at the next The Brooklyn Nets had one of the more interesting offseasons in the NBA as they selected an NBA-record five players in the first round of the 2025 NBA Draft. One of the players that Brooklyn drafted, guard Egor Demin, has a good chance of being the starting point guard for the 2025-26 season, but that doesn't seem to inspire confidence in anyone on the outside looking in. In HoopsHype's ranking of the top-26 point guards for the 2025-26 season, they did not have Demin on the list, implying that the outlet doesn't believe that Demin will have a particularly effective season. To be fair, HoopsHype is projecting who the best 26 point guards will be next season and there is the possibility that the outlet doesn't consider Demin to be a point guard. Either way, Demin did not appear on the list, but that doesn't mean that he cannot have a successful rookie season even if he doesn't find a way to make it on the list by the end of the season. Demin, 19, was the eighth overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and with D'Angelo Russell leaving in free-agency to join the Dallas Mavericks, the starting point guard spot is up for grabs this offseason. In terms of players who saw minutes at the point guard position last season for the Nets, Demin will be competing with the likes of Keon Johnson and Tyrese Martin for the right to start at that spot. Assuming that shooting guard Cam Thomas re-signs with Brooklyn before the beginning of the season, that essentially pits three players to compete for one spot. Demin is the most likely of the three to start given how much the team invested in him in the Draft along with the fact that the Nets will be trying to develop Demin along with fellow rookies in Nolan Traore and Ben Saraf. With training camp about two months away from starting, there is still plenty of time for Demin to work on his flaws enough to compete with Johnson and Martin and potentially prove the doubters wrong at the same time.

Nets rookies highlights from 2025 NBA Las Vegas Summer League
The Brooklyn Nets came away from the 2025 NBA Las Vegas Summer League with a disappointing 1-4 record as they were trying to incorporate four of the five rookies they drafted. Brooklyn was able to see what Egor Demin, Nolan Traore, Ben Saraf, and Danny Wolf had to offer against some NBA competition and the takeaways varied depending on the player. For any Nets fans that weren't able to watch the summer league or just want to reminder of what most of the rookies did in Las Vegas, Brooklyn's content team posted a highlight reel on its YouTube channel. While the Nets' best player in the summer league was undoubtedly center Drew Timme, each of the four rookies that were able to play showed why they were drafted in the first place. Demin, the eighth overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, averaged 11.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 40.7% from the field and 43.5% from three-point land. Demin came into the summer league with questions regarding his long-range shooting ability and his effectiveness off the ball, but he showed that those concerns aren't as major as they seemed during the pre-Draft process. Traore, the 19th overall pick, showcased his trademark speed with the basketball throughout his time in Las Vegas, even though his efficiency left plenty to be desired from one of the players vying for point guard minutes. Traore 7.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per contest while shooting 30.4% from the floor and 14.3% from deep as he tried to share the ball-handling duties with his other three fellow rookies. Saraf, the 26th overall pick, got his first taste of NBA action after coming over from playing overseas and he averaged 7.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game while shooting 30.4% from the field and 53.8% from the free-throw line. Wolf, the 27th overall pick, had some impressive moments during his time in the summer league, averaging 10.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per contest while shooting 39.1% from the floor and 40.0% from behind the three-point line. Nets' Egor Demin did what was asked during Las Vegas Summer League
Brooklyn Nets guard Egor Demin had plenty of people watching how he would handle his first taste of NBA action in the Las Vegas Summer League that happened last month. After being selected by Brooklyn with the eighth overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, Demin showed in Las Vegas that he could have a future as an off-ball contributor, something that the coaching staff liked to see from him. "Yeah, his role here (Summer League) was WAY different than what we're going to ask him to do in the regular season," a Nets coach said of Demin's role in the summer league, according to Spotrac's Keith Smith. Demin, who came into the Draft as the best passer in the class, did not spend nearly as much time with the ball in his hands as he did during his one season at BYU, but that was by design. "But that's what this is for, right? We tasked him to shoot it from deep and to shoot it a lot. He did exactly as he was asked," the Nets coach continued. "We know about the playmaking. This was a chance to see if he could get his shot off against NBA-level defenders. He did and those shots went in a lot too. We couldn't be happier with his work here (Summer League). Demin, 19, finished the 2024-25 college basketball season with a 24.9% usage rate as he was clearly the point guard for the Cougars and was making all of the decisions for the team. After playing three games for the Nets in the summer league, Demin finished with a 19.4% usage rate as he had to share the ball-handling responsibilities with players like fellow rookies Nolan Traore and Ben Saraf, among others. As the Nets coach alluded to, Demin played more of an off-ball role than he has at any point over the past few seasons and the results were encouraging for what his future could be in the NBA. Demin not only shot 43.5% from three-point land, but he shot that well 7.7 three-point attempts per game, showing that the concern over his jumpshot may have been a bit overblown based on the early results.
