Egypt's Investment Minister discusses cooperation with leading French companies
Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Hassan El-Khatib reaffirmed the strong and steadily growing economic relationship between Egypt and France, emphasizing that bilateral ties have deepened in recent years thanks to the political will of both countries' leadership. El-Khatib made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation of major French companies affiliated with the French Employers Association (MEDEF International). He was accompanied by Hossam Heiba, Chairman of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI). The meeting took place on the sidelines of French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Cairo and focused on enhancing economic and investment cooperation between the two nations. The minister noted that the discussions build on momentum from the Egyptian-French Economic Forum, which served as a key platform to expand investment and trade dialogue. He expressed appreciation for France's commitment to increasing its investments in Egypt, particularly in priority sectors aligned with the country's development goals. El-Khatib highlighted the significance of the meeting as a step forward in strengthening the economic partnership and capitalizing on the current positive momentum in bilateral relations. Apr 07, 2025 During a joint press conference in Cairo on April 7th, 2025, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that the French Development Agency (AFD) will sign agreements with Egypt to provide more than EUR 260 million in grants and loans. These funds are designated to support vital sectors such as energy, transportation, water, and sanitation. President Macron highlighted that French investments in Egypt have reached EUR 7 billion, underscoring France's commitment to deepening its economic presence in the Egyptian market and fostering sustainable development across various sectors and projects, including the Cairo metro, power generation and water management. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi expressed confidence in the growing economic collaboration between the two nations. He emphasized the importance of expanding French company activities in Egypt and building upon the outcomes of the Egyptian-French Economic Forum to bolster joint cooperation and actively drive economic development. The two leaders also discussed regional issues, including developments related to water security. President El-Sisi reiterated Egypt's position that the Nile River serves as a historical link that should benefit all, while considering Egypt's reliance on its waters. President Macron affirmed France's commitment to facilitating a fair resolution to ensure equitable sharing of Nile waters among neighbouring countries. During his visit, President Macron reiterated France's firm rejection of any attempt to forcibly displace Palestinians from Gaza or the West Bank ahead of Cairo's tripartite summit to address the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip between Egypt, France and Jordan.
