Mark Your Calendar When Lucknow Dances To The Rhythm Of Tradition

Lucknow functions as the capital city of Uttar Pradesh in India where people celebrate its extensive cultural background coupled with deep historical values and active traditional customs. Lucknow serves as a merge of Mughal alongside Awadhi together with British civilizations that created its singular character through time. Traditional festivals stand out as the most captivating cultural element that Lucknow puts forward to its visitors. These events beyond celebration represent windows to understand the essence of the city through its cultural heritage and reveal its social customs as well as artistic expressions and musical performances and typical cuisine while displaying local community values. A Lucknow trip should include seven traditional festivals so visitors can experience the full appeal of this place. 1. Eid-ul-Fitr Eid-ul-Fitr brings the final celebration of Ramadan which Muslims worldwide observe through fasting during this holy month. High spirits guide Lucknow residents during this festival because they celebrate it in a way that showcases their spiritual tolerance. The festival bursts forth when residents decorate their streets with vibrant decorations and shoppers fill markets with seviyan (vermicelli pudding) while exchanging 'Eid Mubarak' salutations. After the special prayers at Jama Masjid large crowds participate in the festivities by organizing shared family dinners for family members and neighbors. People from various backgrounds actively join the festive activities during Eid in Lucknow because the community effectively crosses religious barriers during these celebrations. 2. Diwali Each year Lucknow witnesses a brilliant transformation during the Diwali festival of lights celebrated by Hindus. The houses decorate themselves with diyas made of oil and rangoli designs and fairy lights creating a magical night time glow. Families unite for Lakshmi Puja ceremonies while watching the spectacular fireworks display that illuminates the evening sky during their search for prosperity blessings. During the celebration people prepare and distribute the traditional food items gujiya and mathri and kheer. Both Charbagh area and Hazratganj market become active commercial centers during Diwali where people from the local community and visitors intersect. The celebration of this festival successfully represents how Lucknowites embrace their guests with kindness. 3. Chhath Puja According to tradition Surya the Sun God stands alongside his partner Usha at the center of Chhath Puja. The Bihari community which lives in Lucknow observes this natural festival by practicing rituals that happen around the Gomti River. Devotees keep fasting while praying and presenting fruits, sugarcane and homemade sweets during this religious observance. Thousands of devotees form a mystical sight while they conduct hymn chanting rituals under the moving sun as they stand deep in the water. During Chhath Puja people highlight the essential relationship between natural surroundings and religious practices. 4. Basant Panchami Basant Panchami arrives as the first spring festival of the year to honor Goddess Saraswati who manifests as the deity of wisdom together with music and artistic talent. The educational institutions together with schools and colleges schedule special programs for students to venerate the goddess. Event participants choose yellow as the dominant celebration color to symbolize spring along with mustard fields because they dress in yellow clothes and cook kesar halwa and adorn their homes with marigold flowers. During Basant Panchami in Lucknow people celebrate by participating in kite-flying competitions together with their playful festivities. 5. Lucknow Mahotsav The cultural celebration known as Lucknow Mahotsav brings out the artistic heritage of the city through an annual celebration each year. The Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department conducts this annual celebration which occurs in February throughout multiple days. The cultural program comprises performances of classical dances alongside both traditional ghazals and qawwalis and poetry recitations that display Lucknow's Nawab cultural heritage. Food stalls present authentic Awadhi food preparations that offer kebabs, biryani and kulfi among other dishes. The craftsmen showcase elaborate chikankari embroidery together with zardozi work and pottery pieces. Lucknow Mahotsav should be considered essential for all those who want to understand Lucknow's culture. 6. Holi Lucknow celebrates the colorful festival of Holi in a manner that surpasses all other places in India. During Holi festivities people use pichkaris for water spraying while sharing gulal colored powder among each other. People freely serve traditional thandai mixed with bhang to add a recreational aspect to the festivities. The streets of public areas and open spaces become vibrant as residents enjoy singing and dancing while eating holiday foods including gujiya and mathri. During Holi celebrations in Lucknow residents experience social unity as well as enhanced relationships that bind their community together. Conclusion The traditional festivals of Lucknow exist as real expressions of both the urban legacy and cultural variety and social acceptance that defines the city. Each festive celebration in Lucknow including Holi's lively excitement and Chhath Puja's peaceful ambiance and Lucknow Mahotsav's cultural depth serves to provide a different entertaining experience to its visitors. Onsite participation in these festivals enables people to feel a strong connection with Lucknow's authentic character and ancient charm. A trip to Lucknow becomes unforgettable when visitors align their schedule with one of the local festive celebrations.

Pirzada Kasem Siddiqui appointed Trinamool Congress's General Secretary

Ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has appointed Pirzada Kasem Siddiqui of Furfura Sharif as the party's general secretary. The appointment is being seen as a strategic step by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to consolidate the Muslim vote bank and counter the growing influence of the Indian Secular Front (ISF).The decision carries considerable political weight, especially given the ISF's performance in the last Assembly elections. Before the previous polls, Pirzada Abbas Siddiqui of Furfura Sharif had launched the Indian Secular Front, which made a strong electoral debut. His brother, Naushad Siddiqui, won the Bhangar seat in South 24 Parganas- traditionally a TMC stronghold - marking a significant breach in the party's Muslim support then, the ISF has been steadily expanding its presence in several Muslim-majority areas beyond South 24 Parganas, raising concerns within the TMC about erosion of its traditional vote bank. In this context, West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee's move to bring Kasem Siddiqui into a prominent position within the party - without even a formal joining ceremony - is being seen as a strong signal of the importance the TMC places on retaining Muslim support. Kasem Siddiqui, a well-regarded figure in Furfura Sharif, is closely related to Abbas and Naushad Siddiqui. His influence in the religious and social fabric of the region is expected to help TMC reconnect with voters who may have drifted toward the ISF. The appointment also suggests that Kasem Siddiqui could be given a larger role in the upcoming Banerjee's outreach to Furfura Sharif has been evident in recent months. During Eid-ul-Fitr, she visited the religious site, where Kasem Siddiqui was seen alongside her. The two were also spotted together at an Iftar party in Kolkata's Park Circus area, fueling speculation about a deeper political alliance in the the ISF's Muslim voter base and its roots in the religiously significant Furfura Sharif in Hooghly district, the TMC appears to be bracing for a serious electoral challenge. With this appointment, the party is attempting to reclaim lost ground and prevent further fragmentation of the Muslim vote in the Reel
