Legia Warsaw boss Edward Iordanescu has urged his side to make four key improvements - as he sent a message to Hibs ahead of their Conference League meeting. As David Gray's side won 2-0 at Livingston in the Premier Sports Cup ahead of the play-off first leg at Easter Road this Thursday, Legia Warsaw were wounded 1-0 by Ekstraklasa newcomers Wisla Plock in their latest league clash. A Marcin Kaminski goal downed Legia who head into the Hibs play-off games off the back of an exit from the Europa League against Cypriot outfit AEK Larnaca. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad It has left head coach Iordanescu demanding more maturity, confidence, trust and better duelling ahead of their clash with Hibs, with his side winning two of their four games domestically so far this campaign. A message has also been sent the way of Gray and co, as he wants to use the upcoming double header to prove why his team will be fighting to become Polish champions come next year. Legia Warsaw on shock defeat Iordanescu said: 'Congratulations to the hosts on their victory. They did a great job and started the season brilliantly. They've clearly been working together for a long time and have good chemistry. Their morale and confidence are high. This result is very frustrating for us. 'I'm here to explain the reasons for the defeat. I'll take it upon myself; don't blame the players. After a great start to the season, it's obvious we've started to lose some energy and confidence. The match showed how much work lies ahead. 'I thank our fans for their support. I promise I know what we have to do. I know how to work. I have a lot of experience. One of the most important things is that we have to be more mature. If we're playing against a team that's very confident and then concede a goal after 10 minutes, we know we'll have to put a lot of energy into that kind of competition. The rest of the match is history. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Legia Warsaw message to Hibs 'We controlled 90% of the match. We had shots, we kept the ball. We have three days to recover for the next match. We have two matches ahead of us to qualify for the Conference League group stage. We have to win this match and qualify, and then we have 10 months to prove we deserve to be Polish champions. 'We allowed our opponents to play in a way they were comfortable with. Conceding a goal allowed the home team to start their best period of the match in a low-key defence. Our crosses were not having any effect. We checked the statistics and analysed our opponent. 'We knew these crosses were a difficult task. We played around the penalty area, looking for our chances. I brought on a second striker to open up the penalty area. These kinds of games are won by individuals. We need to have more confidence and trust. We need to take more duels.'

Watch as forgotten Celtic loanee scores to salvage late draw
The winger joined the Polish club from the Scottish Premiership champions on a season-long loan, with an option to buy, earlier this summer. As Poznan took on Korona Kielce in the Ekstraklasa on Saturday evening, Palma was handed his third start in a row. Read more: His team trailed 1-0 going into the closing stages, although Palma stepped up in the 83rd minute, scoring his first goal in Poznan colours to secure a late draw. Mikael Ishak crossed into the far post, where the 25-year-old was waiting to nod home. Palma and his team's attention now turns to a crucial Europa League play-off tie with Belgian outfit Genk after they were knocked out of Champions League qualifying by Red Star Belgrade midweek, losing 4-2 on aggregate. Celtic have several other players out on loan this season. Maik Nawrocki is one, although he has yet to feature in any of Hannover's first three competitive games of the new campaign. Jude Bonnar and Kyle Ure are both at Ayr United as part of a co-operation agreement, meanwhile Ben McPherson and Josh Clarke are spending the season at Partick Thistle. Adam Montgomery is doing the same at Livingston.

United sign 'transformative' Dutch defender Esselink
Dundee United have signed Bert Esselink after 25-year-old centre-half left Stal Mielec following their relegation from the Polish top manager Jim Goodwin expects the Dutchman, who has signed a a two-year contract with a club-held option to extend for a further 12 months, to have a "transformative impact" on his defence."His mobility and bravery allows him to engage with the opposition higher up the pitch and the statistical data reinforces his intelligence when selecting a progressive passing option," Goodwin told United's website."Bert is also comfortable defending in a deeper block, using his awareness to remain compact and defend the box both on the ground and in the air."Esselink came through De Graafschap's academy in his homeland before making his senior debut for Cypriot club PAEEK, helping the Nicosia-based club secure promotion to the top tier for the first release clause was triggered by APOEL Nicosia, but he moved to Olympiakos Nicosia in search of first-team moved to Poland in 2023 and Unied say that during his two seasons with Stal he ranked among "the division's most successful duel combatants, possession winners and forward-pass completionists".However, playing 28 times last season, 22 of them starts, he could not prevent his side dropping to the second tier after finishing 16th of 18 teams in the Ekstraklasa."Bert's arrival will have a transformative impact on our ability to regain possession in key areas and play on the front foot," Goodwin added.

Conference League side look to ‘tempt' ex-Kilmarnock star Danny Armstrong as he attracts interest at home and abroad
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) JAGIELLONIA BIALYSTOK are trying to put together a deal to tempt Danny Armstrong. SunSport can reveal the Polish team want to tempt the winger in time for the start of their season. 3 Former Kilmarnock man Daniel Armstrong has attracted interest at home and abroad Credit: Kenny Ramsay 3 He could play in the Conference League with Polish team Jagiellonia Bialystok Credit: Getty Winger Armstrong, 27, is a free agent after quitting Kilmarnock following four years there. His availability has attracted interest from home and abroad and Jagiellonia are exploring ways they can attract him. They are bossed by Adrian Siemieniec, who became the youngest ever boss in Poland's top flight when he took charge at the age of 31 two years ago. He already had a decade's experience of coaching after retiring from playing early because he felt he wouldn't be good enough to make the grade as a professional. Siemieniec steered Jagiellonia to a third-placed finish in the Ekstraklasa and they take on Serbs Novi Pazar in the Europa Conference League second qualifying round first leg on July 24. They open up their league campaign with a visit from Bruk-Bet Termalica on July 18. Back before the most recent winter window then-Killie manager Derek McInnes stood firm on the winger's price tag, knocking back bids from European teams and batting off interest from his own new team Hearts. With his contract into the last six months teams could have tried to lure him with a pre-contract agreement but nothing came to fruition. He's recently revealed his decision to stick around for the final year was largely to do with his new-born daughter. Now that he's departing he also added: 'It's been the best ten months of my life, having Darby here, and I wouldn't change it. Derek McInnes spotted leaving Rugby Park for last time as Kilmarnock fans thank ex-manager 3 Armstrong said the birth of his daughter at the start of last season made him want to stay put Credit: SNS Group 'Now it's time to get the move spot on so I can raise her where I want to raise her, and I can let my partner settle and give her that certainty because it's difficult for everyone involved. 'I've had options from all over the world but it's about it being the right one. Myself and my partner are all on the same page. Armstrong notched 26 goals and 35 assists in his time at Rugby Park, picking up a Championship title and playing in Europe along the way. He wouldn't be the first to make a direct move between the SPFL and the Polish outfit. The red and yellow team currently have former Livingston goalkeeper Max Stryjek on their books. Other recent Scottish links to Jagiellonia include Patryk Klimala, who was brought to Celtic from them, and Ziggy Gordon who moved there after playing for Partick Thistle and Hamilton Accies. Cillian Sheridan, formerly of Killie, Celtic and a host of other Scottish clubs also plied his trade there between 2017 and 2019. Steve Clarke 'pleased' with Adams amid major Carver update
The national team put Liechtenstein to the sword in a 4-0 friendly victory, bouncing back from a 3-1 defeat to Iceland at Hampden last time out. Speaking post-match, Clarke reflected on the emphatic win, explaining how Sunday night's Nations League final proved how Scotland can still compete at the elite level: "I know my players, I trust my players... It's nice to finish this camp with a nice win," he told BBC. Read more: "Most teams will come here and win against Liechtenstein, but not many come here and score four goals. "It's still a disappointing camp because we didn't play as we can play in the home game at Hampden. "I'm certainly going to carry that into August. There was a little bit of hurt and anger in the dressing room, I think you saw that in the first 20 to 25 minutes when the players were really on it. "If you look at the Nations League final between Portugal and Spain, in recent times, this Scotland team has shown how competitive it can be against that type of team. "So, you look at the two best teams in Europe competing in a final, we can compete." Forward Adams' display was perhaps his finest in dark blue. A perfect hat-trick, combined with a fine assist for strike partner George Hirst, meant the Torino man grabbed the headlines. Despite making several substitutions throughout the 90, Clarke left a hungry Adams on: "I'm really pleased for Che," he added. "We know what Che can bring. He's been with us for a couple of years now. He's a top-quality striker. "I left him on because I knew he would be desperate for a hat-trick." Question marks have hung over the future of Clarke's long-term lieutenant, Carver, for some time. The 60-year-old joined the Scotland set up in 2020 but recently took up a role with Polish Ekstraklasa outfit Lechia Gdansk, whom he successfully helped avoid the drop to the second-tier last season. "I think the wave goodbye to the crowd was a giveaway," admitted Clarke post-match. "The thing with John was that when I approached him to come and help us, I didn't think he'd be here for five years because he's a talented coach. We'll miss him, we'll have to look to replace him, and that'll be my job over the summer. We wish him every success."
