After a dismal 2024-2025 season where they finished bottom of the 13-team table, the east coast side are rebuilding with clear intent, targeting a mid-table finish and a new identity to match their ambition. Now rebranded as the Real Warriors and backed by former chairman Tan Sri Annuar Musa, Kelantan, the team have made several key appointments, including hiring of the experienced coach E. Elavarasan. Elavarasan will be supported by former Sarawak midfield general Muamer Salibasic. The club have secured four names from Malaysia Cup runners-up Pahang - winger T. Saravanan (goal-scorer in the final), left-back Azwan Aripin, goalkeeper Azfar Arif, and midfielder Syaahir Saiful Nizam. Saravanan is feeling optimistic about the journey ahead. 'New surroundings again after my move from Pahang, and before that Kuala Lumpur,' said the 24-year-old winger from Kapar. 'It was a good experience with Pahang, but I respect their decision to withdraw from the Super League this season. 'When Kelantan called up, I felt playing outside the Klang Valley again would help me grow as a player,' added Saravanan, who began his career with Selangor. He was also impressed with the approach of his new coaches. 'Coaches Elavarasan and Salibasic have brought a balanced style. On the pitch, it's about possession and using our technique intelligently. Off it, there's a strong emphasis on strength training – not just stamina, but overall physicality.' 'Kota Baru has been great so far. I'm excited and can't wait for the season to begin.' Kelantan have also brought in Terengganu winger Syafik Ismail and are reportedly monitoring Pahang playmaker Nor Azam Azih. To further strengthen their squad, Kelantan are exploring loan deals, particularly from Klang Valley side Kuala Lumpur, with striker Haqimi Azim Rosli and left-back Syazwan Andik among the names on their radar. On the foreign front, the club are said to be in talks with prolific Nigerian striker Ifedayo Olusegun, once the league's most feared forward and Golden Boot winner in 2020 and 2021 during his Selangor days. Despite being 34, Olusegun remains one of the most lethal strikers in Malaysian football. They are also eyeing Nigerian winger Prince Aggreh and Myanmar's Hein Htet Aung, while rumours suggest a European goalkeeper could soon be added to the mix.

Elavarasan aims to revive Kelantan TRW in Super League

NEWLY appointed Kelantan TRW head coach E. Elavarasan is determined to steer the team to a stronger standing in the 2025/26 Super League campaign. Elavarasan said that in the previous season, the team — then known as Kelantan Darul Naim FC (KDN FC) — had finished at the bottom of the league table, and this time he is targeting at least a top-eight finish. 'I accepted the offer to become the new head coach due to several factors. I've always seen Kelantan as a team with great history and once among the best. That is what drives me to restore its standing in this Super League season. 'I had discussions with clubs abroad before making this decision. In fact, I've been shuttling overseas over the past few years. This offer gave me a reason to finally settle down here,' he said. He was speaking to reporters after conducting his first training session with his players at the Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium here today, which was also attended by Kelantan TRW Chief Executive Officer Datuk Mohd Irwan Rizal Mohd Ali. Elavarasan further urged football fans not to place undue pressure on the newly-formed Kelantan TRW squad, stressing that the players truly need the continued support of their fans. He said although Kelantan's performances over the past three or four years have been lacklustre, he is confident that things will improve steadily over time. 'We need to play first before we can truly assess our strengths and weaknesses. We're also expecting the arrival of foreign players next week. 'So far, we have 10 players including those with experience, as well as some under-23 players with strong potential. With the addition of new players and management, I hope we can bring the team to a much better level,' he said.

Elavarasan takes charge of Kelantan Darul Naim

KUALA LUMPUR: Former national Under-23 coach E. Elavarasan and Muamer Salibasic have been tasked with reviving Kelantan Darul Naim's (KDN) fortunes as they prepare for the 2025-26 M-League season. Elavarasan brings a proven track record to the East Coast side. During his stint with Malaysia's Under-23 team, he guided them to the 2023 Merlion Cup title, a semi-final finish at the AFF Championship, and qualification for the 2024 Asian Cup as one of the best second-placed teams in the qualifiers. He stepped down from the role on Sept 18, 2023 to focus on assisting then-national coach Kim Pan Gon with the senior squad. His new partner in the KDN dugout, Bosnian-born Salibasic, holds a UEFA Pro Licence and has built a solid coaching reputation across Europe and the Middle East. The 41-year-old, who played for Sabah in the M-League in 2013, has recently coached clubs in Bosnia and Sweden. Former Kelantan FA president Tan Sri Annuar Musa confirmed the duo's appointments and praised KDN's ambition to restore footballing pride in the state. "Congratulations to the only team from Kelantan that will play in the 2025-26 season. Welcome to Elavarasan and Salibasic, who will work hand in hand to train Kelantan," Annuar said in a Facebook post. "Kelantan are serious about bringing back the glory of football." Annuar, who oversaw Kelantan's golden era from 2009 to 2016, played a major role in turning the Red Warriors into one of Malaysian football's most dominant forces. Under his leadership, Kelantan won two Super League titles, two FA Cups, and the Malaysia Cup, earning recognition as one of the best-run teams in the country. He was also a long-serving FAM executive committee member and chairman of the M-League team management committee. In his social media post, Annuar also revealed that KDN have strengthened their squad with the signing of several national players from Asean, Asia and Africa. "Some Asean, Asian and African national players have been roped in to shape Kelantan's new-look team. All the best to Kelantan," he said.
