Heatwave, Heavy Thunderstorms to Hit Several Provinces Across Morocco
Rabat – The General Directorate of Meteorology announced today a new heatwave that will cover several Moroccan provinces, along with heavy thunderstorms.
The new alert expects temperatures ranging between 43 and 46 degrees Celsius to hit the provinces of Tata, Zagora, Assa Zag, Es-Semara, Boujdour, and Oued Ed-Dahab, as well as Aousserd from Wednesday to Saturday.
Meanwhile, temperatures will range between 42 and 44 degrees from Wednesday to Friday in the provinces of Ouezzane, Sidi Kacem, Sidi Slimane, Menes, Fez, Moulay Yacoub, Taounate, Khemisset, and Khouribga.
The same weather will hit Beni Mellal, Fquih Ben Salah, Settat, Rehamna, El Kelaa Seraghna, Marrakech, and Taroudant.
Temperatures between 39 degrees and 42 degrees are expected during the same period in the provinces of Sefrou, El Hajeb, Khenifra, Azilal, Al Haouz, Tan-Tan, and Guelmin.
Thunderstorms with local hail and wind gusts between 15 and 25 millimeters of rain will visit the provinces of El Hajeb, Ifrane, Boulemane, Sefrou, Midelt, and Khemisset on Wednesday between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Weather that includes 20 to 39 millimeters of rain is also expected in Aousser from 4 p.m. to midnight on Wednesday.
Morocco has experienced increased temperatures across several provinces in the past few weeks.
The weather-focused website Eldorad recently featured Ben Guerir, Kenitra, and Taroudant among the top 15 hottest places on the planet.
Ben Guerir ranked 10th worldwide, with temperatures reaching 46.4°C. Kenitra followed in 14th place with 45.8°C, while Taroudant closed the trio at 15th, just above the 45°C mark.
These figures show the sheer intensity of the heatwave currently striking wide regions of Morocco, especially in the country's central and southern zones. Tags: bad weatherhot weather
