OGDCL discovers oil at Chakar-1 Well in Tando Allah Yar

ISLAMABAD: Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), as the operator of the TAY Exploration License with a 95% working interest, along with its joint venture partner, Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL), which holds a 5% carried interest, has announced an oil discovery at the Chakar-1 exploratory well located in the Tando Allah Yar district of Sindh. The Chakar-1 well was spudded on June 2, 2025, as an exploratory well under the Tando Allah Yar Exploration License and drilled to a total depth of 1,926 meters into the Upper Shale of the Lower Goru Formation. Based on the interpretation of wireline logs and Reservoir Evaluation Services (RES) log, a Drill Stem Test (DST) was conducted in the B-Sand, followed by testing with an Electrical Submersible Pump (ESP). The well produced 275 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) through a 32/64' choke at a wellhead flowing pressure (WHFP) of 400 psi. Furthermore, during formation testing using RES, the Lower Ranikot formation also showed the presence of oil. Copyright Business Recorder, 2025

OGDCL announces oil discovery in Sindh

Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) made an oil discovery at the exploratory well Chakar–1, located in District Tando Allah Yar, Sindh. It made the announcement in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) today. The discovery was made along with its joint venture partner Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) with 5% carried interest, the notice said. OGDCL discovers hydrocarbon reserves in Sindh 'Chakar–1 was spudded on June 02, 2025, as an exploratory well under the Tando Allah Yar Exploration License and drilled down to a total depth of 1,926 meters into the Upper Shale of the Lower Goru Formation,' the notice read. Based on the interpretation of wireline logs and Reservoir Evaluation Services (RES) log, Drill Stem Test (DST) was carried out in the B-Sand, followed by testing with an Electrical Submersible Pump (ESP), said OGDCL. It added that the well flowed 275 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) through a 32/64' choke at a wellhead flowing pressure (WHFP) of 400 psi. 'Furthermore, during formation testing using RES, oil was encountered in the Lower Ranikot formation. A second DST/ESP is now being conducted to further assess its hydrocarbon potential.' The listed company shared that this marks the 13th discovery in the TAY E.L and reflects the joint venture's sustained efforts to assess and unlock the hydrocarbon potential of the block. 'The results to date reinforce confidence in the geological prospectivity of the area and support ongoing exploration and appraisal efforts to further delineate its resource base.' On June 12, the OGDCL along with its partner Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL), successfully discovered natural gas and condensate reserves at an exploratory well named Faakir-1, located in Khairpur district, Sindh. Last year, OGDCL discovered natural gas reserves at Shahu-1 well located in the district of Khairpur, Sindh.

Oil & gas production soars at OGDCL's Rajian oilfield in Punjab

In a move towards enhancing oil and gas production, Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), one of Pakistan's largest E&P, has significantly increased output at its Rajian-05 well in Punjab following the successful installation of an Electrical Submersible Pump (ESP). The listed company disclosed the development in its notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Monday. 'OGDCL has successfully completed the installation of ESP at Rajian-05, resulting in a significant improvement in production,' read the notice. The company informed that following the ESP deployment, production has increased to 3,100 barrels per day (bpd) of oil and 1 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas. 'Prior to this intervention, the well was producing 820 bpd of oil and 0.5 MMSCFD of gas,' it said. Rajian Oil Field, located in Chakwal district of Punjab and held under the Gujar Khan Exploration License, is 100% owned and operated by OGDCL. Discovered in August 1994, it has remained an integral part of the Company's portfolio. 'Two wells at Rajian had previously been completed with ESPs, and the recent result at Rajian-05 further supports OGDCL's efforts to maximize the value of existing fields through data-driven redevelopment planning. 'This development reinforces the company's continued focus on domestic energy resource optimization in support of long-term sustainability and national energy security,' read the notice. In December last year, OGDCL revived Rajian-3A, a heavy oil well, within its northern region field located in Punjab.
