School in Eikenhof receives boost from community, corporate partners

The Elethu Themba Combined School in Eikenhof recently had a heartwarming two-part celebration of Nelson Mandela Day, receiving generous support from a wide network of partners and community members. Due to the reopening of schools on July 22, the first leg of Mandela Day activities took place on July 25. This phase focused on beautifying the school environment, including cleaning and painting to give the facility a much-needed facelift. This effort was made possible through the collaboration of teachers, parents and community members, who donated their time and energy. Corporate support added further value to the day: • Astron Energy Kibler Park contributed essential consumables; • Astron Energy Eikenhof supplied paint; • Eye of Africa Estate helped clean around the school and prune trees; • The Sharing Kindness Foundation provided plants to enhance the school's garden. The second leg of the initiative was held on July 31, with a strong focus on supporting learners. This day was made memorable through the efforts of Astron Energy, Reef Tankers and Gift of the Givers. These organisations donated: • much-needed shoes, restoring dignity and comfort to underprivileged learners; • stationery packs for distribution later in the year to support learners during exams; Ward 125 Clr Matsobane Sekhu said while bringing smiles to children's faces is a joy in itself, these efforts also contribute to a larger goal. Nelson Mandela believed in the power of education and envisioned it as a cornerstone for nation-building. 'As a community, we share this vision. Those who seek to build a successful nation must invest in education and the well-being of our children. 'On behalf of the Ward 125 community, we thank all the partners and individuals who continue to honour Nelson Mandela's legacy by supporting our school and its learners. Your kindness and commitment make a real and lasting difference,' noted Sekhu.
