Google unveils new AI video tool Flow along with Veo 3 at Google I/O 2025
Google unveiled Flow, a new AI video tool, at its developer event on May 20. The tool is targeted towards filmmakers and creatives. Users can prompt a description of a video they want and the tool will output clips that can be pieced together to make a sequence. The scene builder can also extend shots and help users choose the direction of a scene. There are also features that allow users to choose a camera angle and the point of view in a scene as well as asset management so users can handle all the parts within the video. Google will also be launching 'Flow TV' so others can see the exact prompts and methods used in certain video clips and learn. Last year, the company launched a similar AI video generation tool called VideoFX on Google Labs for limited users as a precursor to Flow. Alongside Flow, Google also launched Veo 3, the improved AI video generator that also generates sound. The tool also has better quality and is able to comprehend longer prompts better. 'Veo 3 excels from text and image prompting to real-world physics and accurate lip syncing,' Eli Collins, Google DeepMind product vice president, said in a blog Tuesday. Additionally, its predecessor, Veo 2 will also have options for camera control and object removal from its clips. Google says its new image AI can actually spell
Google is launching a new version of its image generation model, called Imagen 4, and the company says that it offers 'stunning quality' and 'superior typography.' 'Our latest Imagen model combines speed with precision to create stunning images,' Eli Collins, VP of product at Google Deepmind, says in a blog post. 'Imagen 4 has remarkable clarity in fine details like intricate fabrics, water droplets, and animal fur, and excels in both photorealistic and abstract styles.' Sample images from Google do show some impressive, realistic detail, like one showing a whale jumping out of the water and another of a chameleon. The AI model is also 'significantly better at spelling and typography,' which Collins says makes it easier to create greeting cards, posters, and comics. (When OpenAI recently added image generation to ChatGPT, the company also touted its text rendering improvements, but it's still susceptible to typos.) In some images provided by Google, the text does look good — it's perfectly legible in a short comic, for example, and even a tiny font in a mock stamp is readable. But we'll have to see how the model's text rendering capabilities hold up in the hands of regular users. Imagen 4 will be available on May 20th in the Gemini app, Whisk, and Vertex AI, as well as in Slides, Vids, Docs, 'and more in Workspace,' Collins says. Veo 3 will also be available for users of Google's Vertex AI enterprise platform. Google also announced Imagen 4, its latest image-generation tool, which the company said produces higher-quality images through user prompts. Additionally, Google unveiled Flow, a new filmmaking tool that allows users to create cinematic videos by describing locations, shots and style preferences. Users can access the tool through Gemini, Whisk, Vertex AI and Workspace. The latest launches come as imagery and video become popular use cases for generative AI prompts. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in March said ChatGPT's 4o image generator was so popular that it caused the company's computing chips to "melt." The company said it had to temporarily limit the feature's usage. Google has a mixed track record when it comes to its AI image generators. Last year, the company had to relaunch its Imagen 3 tool after it surfaced historically inaccurate results to users' prompts, causing widespread criticism. Co-founder Sergey Brin later said the mishap was due to a lack of "thorough testing." The Mountain View, California, company also updated its Veo 2 video generator to include the ability for users to add or remove objects from videos with text prompts. Additionally, Google opened its Lyria 2 music-generation model to creators through its YouTube Shorts platform and businesses using Vertex AI.
