Heralded Four-Star WR Mason James Leaves Mizzou with Good Impression

Heralded Four-Star WR Mason James Leaves Mizzou with Good Impression originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Heralded Four-star wide receiver Mason James was among a number of recruits on an official visit to Missouri this past weekend. Advertisement James, like his fellow Class of 2026 recruits, came away very impressed. "I felt like, really loved and very welcomed by the whole program," James told of his visit. "It was just really a good time. I enjoyed my time there for real. It was way better than I expected." 247sports lists James, who attends Norman North High School (Norman, Oklahoma), as the 25th best receiver for the Class of 2026. He finished his 2024 season at Norman North with 56 receptions for 1,233 yards and 17 touchdowns. "Normally, you're just getting to know the coach for who he is as a coach. I got to meet his family and see who he is off the field, and it just helped me get to know (more), maybe about my future coach." Advertisement Recruited by Missouri wide receivers coach Jacob Peeler, James recently listed Mizzou among his five favorites, joining Oklahoma, Kansas State, Washington, and Texas. James is expected to announce his commitment on Wednesday, June 25. Other notables on an official visit to Mizzou alongside James included four-stars Evan Goodwin (OT/Bauxite, Arkansas), Evan Jacobson (TE/Waukee, Iowa), and JJ Bush (LB/Thodore, Alabama). Led by four-star edge rusher Asharri Charles out of Venice, Florida, another six recruits are expected to visit Columbia this weekend. Missouri currently has two commits for the Class of 2026 - QB Gavin Sidwar and LB Keenan Harris. Sportsbook sets win total at 7.5 for Mizzou Football in 2025

There are still three months before the Missouri Tigers open the season at Faurot Field against Central Arkansas, yet oddsmakers are always looking ahead. This week, FanDuel Sportsbook released its updated SEC win totals for the 2025 season. The Tigers' total was set at 7.5 wins, a two-win decrease from the consensus line for the Tigers in 2024, and 2.5 wins behind their final total of 10. Advertisement Mizzou's total is tied for seventh among SEC schools, with the Auburn Tigers, Texas A&M Aggies and South Carolina Gamecocks. The Alabama Crimson Tide, Texas Longhorns and Georgia Bulldogs were all tied for the highest win total at 9.5 wins. The Mississippi State Bulldogs had the lowest at just 3.5 wins. The drop in Vegas' expected win total was something that most Mizzou fans could see coming. The Tigers lost a lot of production from key players who helped them to the 2023 Cotton Bowl and produced two of their best seasons in over a decade. Advertisement Missouri's 2025 schedule includes conference games against South Carolina, Alabama, Texas A&M and Mississippi State at home and matchups with Auburn, the Vanderbilt Commodores, Oklahoma Sooners and Arkansas Razorbacks on the road. The campaign also includes the highly anticipated rekindling of the Border War against the Kansas Jayhawks, which is set for Week 2 in Columbia. With brand new pieces in key spots, it will be interesting to see if the Tigers will fall short of their projected win total or burst through into the upper echelon of the SEC and college football as a whole. Former Mizzou WR Luther Burden III Drops Powerful Message to NFL Teams

As the Chicago Bears began non-contract drills on Friday to kick off rookie mini-camp, a number of first-year players met with media members. Former Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden, a second-round selection (No. 39 overall) by the Bears in last month's NFL Draft, was one of them. Advertisement When asked about falling to the second round, Burden issued a powerful message to the NFL teams that neglected to draft him earlier. "That's staying with me forever," Burden told reporters. "Everybody who passed up on me gotta pay." 38 players were selected ahead of Burden. From Arizona's Tetairoa McMillan, the No. 8 overall pick by the Carolina Panthers, to Iowa State's Jayden Higgins, who went No. 34 to the Houston Texans, four wide receivers taken ahead of him. Burden, a five-star recruit out of East St. Louis, dominated in his three seasons with the Tigers. In 38 games, he compiled 192 receptions for 2,263 receiving yards and 25 total touchdowns - four via the ground. Advertisement "He's always been the five-star, best player; and now he got humbled a little bit falling into the second round," Mizzou head coach Eli Drinkwitz recently told Fox32 Chicago. "Ultimately I think it's the perfect situation for him, it's the right fit for him... If Chicago got a little bit more motivated Luther Burden, then look out NFL." As for the jersey number he'll be wearing this fall, Burden, who wore No. 3 for Mizzou, will don No. 87 for the Bears. When asked why he chose that unusual number, Burden laughed and gave a six-word answer. "All the good numbers are gone." Drinkwitz, Harper on ‘Zou to You tour

SPRINGFIELD, Mo–Lets talk Mizzou Tiger athletics. The annual 'Zou to you tour swung through Springfield Thursday afternoon. Football coach Eli Drinkwitz, assistant basketball coach Dicky Nutt and new women's basketball coach Kellie Harper met with Mizzou fans at lunch time. It was Harper's first trip to Springfield since she got the Mizzou job back in mid-March. She was the Lady Bears coach for six seasons and led Missouri State to two NCAA tournaments. Eli Drinkwitz' football team was 10-3 last season and won the Music City Bowl. Both coaches say it's important to get out in the Show-Me State and meet the fans. 'We're appreciative of the fans. They drive on Saturdays from a long way away to come watch us play. For us to be able to make that trip easy for them to come to celebrate their passion is exciting,' said Drinkwitz. 'It's always good to touch base with your fan base. They need to hear you. They need to see you. We do not take for granted. When they're in the stands it matters and it makes a difference. It does and we don't take that for granted. This is our way of getting out and saying hello to our fans,' said Harper. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
