2025 Arizona Cardinals training camp roster preview: CB Elijah Jones

We will preview every player on the Cardinals roster leading up to training camp. This is about CB Elijah Jones. The Arizona Cardinals report to training camp on July 22 and begin the process of preparing for the regular season, forming the roster and determining starting jobs and roles on the team. Leading up to the start of camp, we will take a look at every player on the offseason roster, their background, their contract, their play in 2024, questions they face and their roster outlook. Next up is cornerback Elijah Jones. Elijah Jones background, 2024 season There were high hopes for Jones after he was selected from Boston College in the third round of the 2024 draft. However, an ankle injury resulted in a season-long stay on injured reserve. There was some limited practice time when he was designated for return on Dec. 5, but the 21-day window expired on Dec. 26 and that kept him on IR for the final week of the season. Elijah Jones 2025 contract details, cap hit His four-year rookie contract included a base salary of $1.053 million for the second year. However, spending all year on injured reserve without being on the active roster for at least three games means it doesn't count as a credited season. Thus, it is believed his salary reverts to the rookie minimum, which this year is $840,000. That would create a salary-cap charge of $1.078 million. 2025 questions, roster outlook With the addition of 2025 draft picks Will Johnson and Denzel Burke, in addition to the returning talent at the position, Jones faces stiff competition for a roster spot. Special teams could be the deciding factor for whoever is the fifth or potentially sixth cornerback. The practice squad might beckon if he is waived and not picked up by another team. Attorney advocates two strategies to get murder plot case dismissed

Jun. 26—WILKES-BARRE — Past the one year deadline to bring to trial and not enough evidence to maintain a murder attempt conspiracy charge against Gregory Thomas Warren, his attorney argued Thursday. Attorney Sidney D. May presented to strategies during a motion's hearing before Luzerne County Judge Michael T. Vough in a strong effort to get charges of criminal conspiracy to commit criminal homicide and criminal use of communication facility dismissed against Warren. Warren, 42, of Bronx, N.Y., Gregory Duclaire, 41, of Plymouth, and Dashawn William Nelson, 30, of Kingston, were charged by Luzerne County detectives and the state Office of Attorney General with plotting to kill Elijah Jones, 27, of South Grant Street, Wilkes-Barre, according to court records. Investigators suspect Jones was targeted in retaliation of shooting a ta business Warren owned on South Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, several years ago. The murder plot was thwarted when Duclaire was apprehended on state parole violations by the Fugitive Apprehension Search Team with the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, Plymouth police, Wilkes-Barre police and U.S. Marshals in January 2024. May argued a criminal complaint charging Warren was filed Jan. 18, 2024, and nearly three months later, Warren was apprehended in New York City on April 8, 2024. By his calculations, May argued Warren should have been brought to trial within 365 days of when the criminal complaint was filed in January 2024. Assistant District Attorney Julian Truskowski who, along with Assistant District Attorney Jill Matthews are prosecuting, calculated the math and time noting delays to being Warren to trial were out-of-their control, specifically an issue in transporting Duclaire from the State Correctional Institution at Dallas for a court proceeding, and the preliminary hearing being postponed at least twice. May's other attempt to get charges dismissed against Warren is what he believes is a lack of evidence to support the offenses. Duclaire testified during the motion's hearing on behalf of Truskowski and Matthews, telling Vough that Warren orchestrated the murder plot and obtained a firearm. Vough said he will issue a ruling at a later date. A combined trial for Warren, Duclaire and Nelson is scheduled for September.

Arizona Cardinals CB Elijah Jones making strides after rookie season lost to injury

Arizona Cardinals CB Elijah Jones making strides after rookie season lost to injury Cardinals HC Jonathan Gannon spoke about how 2024 third-round pick Elijah Jones has done entering his second NFL season It was a rough first year in the NFL for Arizona Cardinals cornerback Elijah Jones. He did not get to play as a rookie. Now he is perhaps a forgotten man in the Cardinals' pretty deep cornerback room. Drafted in the third round out of Boston College with elite athletic traits, Jones was on and off the field with his health in the offseason program and then injured his ankle in the preseason finale. It cost him his season. He was placed on injured reserve and designated to return on Dec. 5, allowing him to practice. He got three weeks of practice but did not get activated and finished the season on IR. Where is he at entering his second season? On the final day of mandatory minicamp, head coach Jonathan Gannon said Jones was coming off his best day. "He's done well," Gannon told reporters. "He's worked on his health bucket a lot, which needed to improve and he took that to heart, and he's done a really good job. I think he looks comfortable out there. "(It's his) second year in the system and he didn't get to practice a ton last year because he had the injury there, but he's improving. He's really come on here this last week. He's doing well." He appears to be battling for a fifth spot on the roster. Garrett Williams, Star Thomas, Max Melton and 2025 second-round pick Will Johnson appear set as the top four. Jones is in the mix with rookie Denzel Burke, Kei'Trel Clark and others for a roster spot. How does he compare? We will see in training camp and the preseason, but Jones has the tools. "He's got length. He's got coverage ability. He can press and can play off. He's got pretty good instincts," said Gannon. "He can run. He's doing well." He will be a player to watch in training camp when it begins at the end of July. Arizona Cardinals Year 2 player outlook: CB Elijah Jones

Arizona Cardinals Year 2 player outlook: CB Elijah Jones A look 2024 at third-round pick Elijah Jones and his second-year outlook in 2025. The Arizona Cardinals drafted 12 players in 2024. Some of them had contributions as rookies. Some will have greater roles in 2025. Others will have to battle for the roster. They selected cornerback Elijah Jones in the third round with the 90th overall pick. Entering Year 2 in the NFL, let's have a look at his 2025 outlook. CB Elijah Jones' 2024 season Jones' rookie season didn't really happen. He didn't play a down. He spent the season on injured reserve. He suffered an ankle injury in the preseason finale, was placed on injured reserved but later designated to return. He had his practice window opened but the three weeks came and went without being activated, so he missed the remainder of the season. Elijah Jones' Year 2 outlook for 2025 Jones, having not yet played a down in the NFL, is no lock for the final roster. If the Cardinals keep five cornerbacks, the top four presumed locks are Star Thomas, Max Melton, Garrett Williams and 2025 second-round pick Will Johnson. That leaves Jones battling with fifth-round rookie Denzel Burke, Kei'Trel Clark and the rest of the cornerbacks on the roster. It will be a fun competition to watch in training camp. Four Arizona Cardinals 2024 draft picks with uphill battle make the 53-man roster

Four Arizona Cardinals 2024 draft picks with uphill battle make the 53-man roster Because of new offseason additions, these 2024 draft picks will have a rough time to make the roster in 2025 for the Cardinals. The Arizona Cardinals have a new crop of young players in 2025 and also many notable free agent additions. As a result, it will be tough for some players to make the roster. Of their 2024 draft picks, at least four will have stuff battles for the roster this season. Who are the picks from last season who are far from guaranteed to make the team this year? 2024 Cardinals draft picks with jobs on the line CB Elijah Jones: Drafted in the third round last year, he spent all season on injured reserve. But with the Cardinals drafting another two cornerbacks, he has an uphill battle. Star Thomas, 2024 second-round pick Max Melton, Garrett Williams and 2025 second-round pick Will Johnson are all locks to make the roster. They drafted Denzel Burke in the fifth round. They still have Kei'Trel Clark. Jones, Burke and Clark are battling for what is perhaps one spot on the roster. OL Christian Jones: Jones started his rookie season on IR but got to start at the end of the season because of injuries to Paris Johnson and Jonah Williams. Both starters are back and Kelvin Beachum was re-signed. Will there be room on the roster for Jones? Plus, they signed Josh Fryar out of Ohio State as a rookie free agent, and he was coached by the Cardinals' new O-line coach Justin Frye. WR Tejhaun Palmer: Well, Palmer didn't even make the roster after being drafted in the sixth round. He spent all season on the practice squad. The receiver room is basically the same, so making the final roster has the same hurdles. CB Jaden Davis: Like Palmer, Davis didn't make the team last year and spent all season on the practice squad. He has even an even steeper uphill battle to make the roster than Elijah Jones.
