Bonkers Teaser Trailer For THE TOXIC AVENGER Sees Toxie Crash a "Killer Nutz" Concert in Gruesome Fashion — GeekTyrant
Here's another bonkers teaser trailer for the remake of Troma's The Toxic Avenger , and it introduces us to a monstercore rock band named 'Killer Nutz', which is managed by Elijah Wood's character. Then it sees Toxie crashing their concert in gruesome and brutal fashion! The film is directed by Macon Blair who previously teased, 'It's practical effects. You can see all the goopy little boils and stuff like that. And we definitely stayed true to some of the really iconic elements: the tutu that's melted onto his body, the janitor's mop as his super weapon.' The film follows Winston Gooze (Dinklage), a struggling janitor who falls into a vat of toxic waste and emerges as a monstrous yet powerful defender against corporate greed. This 'timely reimagining' leans heavily into environmental themes while still packing in the absurd, over-the-top violence fans expect. Blair describes the film's gore as ' Itchy & Scratchy -type violence,' referencing The Simpsons ' over-the-top cartoon brutality. He reveals, 'We've got a guy that gets his head stuffed in a car engine and it kind of grinds his head up. That was a gag I was fond of.' Blair admits he was surprised by how far the studio let him push the insanity: 'I kept expecting Legendary to say, 'This is not what we want,' but they kept agreeing to the things I pitched.' His goal is to 'Embrace the silliness and trashiness, while wanting it to be an enjoyable, crowd-pleasing, rock'n'roll fun time.' Despite earlier reports that the film was deemed 'unreleasable,' it was a hit at Fantastic Fest, and now fans will finally get to see it in all its unrated, gory glory. While Dinklage stars as the toxic hero, it's actor and movement artist Luisa Guerreiro who actually brings the mutated character to life under layers of practical effects. Dinklage himself is eager for audiences to experience it, saying, 'I do want it to get out there into the world because it was a really big hit at Fantastic Fest in Austin, and Macon Blair, the writer/director who is also in The Thicket ... He's incredible. He's one of my favorite people and favorite artists. So hopefully it will have its day in the toxic sun.' Alongside Dinklage, the film boasts an impressive cast, including Elijah Wood, Julia Davis, Taylour Paige, Kevin Bacon, and Jacob Tremblay. The movie is set to hit theaters on August 29.

Horror fans bowled over by 'fever dream' cast for eagerly anticipated sequel
Horror fans have been sharing their glee over the stacked cast that's been revealed for an exciting sequel in the works. Ready or Not was a popular 2019 film in the genre, which nabbed an impressive 89% rating on review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes from critics. Now its star Samara Weaving has been confirmed to be returning alongside newcomers to the franchise Elijah Wood, Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Cronenberg – yes, the acclaimed body horror master-director himself. They join previously announced Marvel star Kathryn Newton, as well as Shawn Hatosy, The Dark Knight actor Néstor Carbonell and Kevin Durand. The follow-up film's official title has also been confirmed as Ready or Not: Here I Come, which has tickled fans with its playful perfection too. Wood, known best for his leading role in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, has also appeared in multiple horror flicks, including The Monkey for Oz Perkins most recently, as well as slasher Maniac and Colour Out of Space with Nicolas Cage, while Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress Gellar is a horror icon thanks to her turns in I Know What You Did Last Summer, The Grudge and Scream 2. While a bit of a left swing, Cronenberg has acted several times before, appearing in TV series Star Trek: Discovery most recently, as well as Slasher and Alias Grace, and even cameos in his own films. This is where he's made his name, directing horror staples like The Fly, Videodrome and Scanners, alongside his new release The Shrouds. 'David Cronenberg being cast in Ready or Not 2… what a time to be alive,' exclaimed fan @BriAnimator_ on X, while Gretchen added: 'The sound I made when I saw this reveal.' 'This cast feels like a fever dream in the best possible way. Horror fans, we win,' enthused @Giii_014 as Debayo mused: 'How do you fit Cronenberg, Buffy, and Frodo into one horror movie without tearing a hole in reality?' Others praised the line-up 'killer' as Andi proclaimed: 'I was not into this idea before. But now I will be there.' 'Elijah Wood in a horror is usually something pretty bonkers, I'm keen,' said Joka0451 on Reddit. 'SMG and Elijah Wood are both scream queens, I cannot wait!' posted @TheHellMotel while @Nad_GarciaS shared: 'Calling Cronenberg, Gellar, Wood, Durand AND Samara Weaving 'ensemble' feels like assembling a horror Avengers team – too many heavy hitters or the perfect recipe for chaos? 🤔 Can Ready or Not 2 keep the claustrophobic tension or will the star power turn it into a crowded house of jump scares?' In Ready or Not, Samara played Grace, who couldn't be happier after she marries the man of her dreams at his family's luxurious estate. There's just one catch – she must now hide from midnight until dawn while her new in-laws hunt her down with guns, crossbows and other weapons. As Grace desperately tries to survive the night, she soon finds a way to turn the tables on her not-so-lovable relatives. More Trending 'It's the kind of low-budget, bound-for-cult-glory movie whose eccentricities will grow on you with repeated viewings, wrote critic Brian Eggert in his review, while Josh Larsen described the movie as 'the gorier, gushier, nastier cousin to Knives Out'. Filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, aka Radio Silence, are returning to direct the survival horror; screenwriters Guy Busick ('Abigail,' 'Scream') and R. Christopher Murphy are also back. Ready or Not grossed $57million (£42.7m) on a $6m (£4.5m) budget, and its directors went on to make Scream (2022), Scream VI and Abigail in the interim. Ready or Not: Here I Come is yet to receive a release date. Ready or Not is available to stream on Disney Plus. Got a story? Elijah Wood says fees for Lord of the Rings actors were ‘not massive'
Elijah Wood has said that his salary for The Lord of the Rings movies was 'not massive' and that appearing in the films was 'a real gamble'. According to a report in Business Insider, which carried quotes from the star at the Texas film awards in March, Wood said the fact that the actors had to sign up for all three films at the start meant that their fees were not related to the film's financial success. 'Because we weren't making one movie and then renegotiating a contract for the next, it wasn't the sort of lucrative scenario that you could sort of rest easy for the rest of your life.' Wood, who played Frodo Baggins in the trilogy of films directed by Peter Jackson and adapted from the epic novels by JRR Tolkien, said the actors understood the significance of the project. 'The benefit of that was that we were also signing up for something that was going to be a part of our lives for ever.' It has been previously suggested that Wood earned about $250,000 (£190,000) for the first film, but the actor told Business Insider that this figure was not accurate and that 'it doesn't matter'. The size of the fees paid to the cast of The Lord of the Rings compared to stars of other Hollywood movies has often been noted, with Cate Blanchett, who played the elf Galadriel in the series, saying on the Watch What Happens Live talk show in 2024 that she 'basically got free sandwiches' and 'no one got paid anything'. Orlando Bloom, who played Legolas, said in 2019 that he had been paid $175,000 for all three films, while Sean Astin (Samwise Gamgee) said he got $250,000. Released between 2001 and 2003, Jackson's three-film series grossed $2.96bn at the worldwide box office, with a reported budget of $281m.
