ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Here are the News 8 Primetime 585 Elite Award winners for boys field. Our large school boys award goes to one of the best high jumpers in the nation! This junior is his school's record holder in the high jump for both indoor and outdoor seasons. His regular season featured a 15th place finish at the New Balance Nationals. He finished 4th in the high jump at sectionals, but turned it on for the state competitions. He was first in the state qualifying event with a jump of 6-foot-9. He took that up an inch at the state finals, clearing 6-foot-10 to finish number two in New York. That height placed this athlete among the top 15 high jumpers in the country this winter. Our large school boys field athlete Elite Award winner is Beckham Taylor from Pittsford Sutherland. Our small school winner is another two-time Elite Award winter champ. This junior had a dominant regular season which featured a variety of event wins including a long jump and triple jump championship at the Virginia Showcase, which invites the best high school athletes in the country. At sectionals he won the long jump by five feet, and the triple jump by seven feet! He was first in both events at the state qualifier as well, but elected not to compete in the state championships. His long jump of 24 feet, 10.75 inches was the second-best distance of any jumper in the country. His best triple jump, at 50 feet and 8.5 inches, was number one in the country, by more than five inches. ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) —This featured athlete has completed a fantastic season and earned a sectional title in their junior year. Holding the fastest time in events at the Section V championships, she placed first in both the slalom and giant slalom. Her slalom time of 1 minute and 3.9 seconds was nearly five seconds faster than the second-place finisher. In the giant slalom, she finished with a time of 20.79 seconds, making her the overall alpine champion. Moving to the state competition, she finished her season with third place in the giant slalom. ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – Here are your News 8 Primetime 585 Elite Awards for girls bowling: She's in her lane, finishing second among Division I bowlers with an average of 196, including a 278 game and 744 series. Both are top scores among all Section V girls bowlers. Being at the top isn't unfamiliar to Erb. She led her team to second place at the Class B sectionals with a top day among Division I bowlers. With a top game of 299 and a top game series of 707, she walked away with the overall title with a 1,307 six-game series. Her track record earned her a spot in the state tournament, where she finished in the top 20 of the Division 1 composite division, scoring an average of 202 in a six-game series. The girls bowling Elite Award winner at a large school goes to Canandaigua sophomore Sadrianna Erb. We congratulate Sadrianna on her accomplishment! This accomplishment follows a great season as she finished the year as Section V's top girls bowler. In the regular season, she averaged 195, holding the third-best in Division II with a 278 game, a top in Section V. At sectionals, she led her team to a second straight title with a 1,383 series., the fourth-best series in Class D history. She continued her streak at states, placing third in the Division II composite division with a 221 six-game average and a high game of 278. Her postseason performance gave her the top overall average in Section V. Bloomfield's Lydia Tutty is our Elite Award winner for girls swimming small. Congratulations Lydia! ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – Our recognized athlete has just ended their season with a state title. In the postseason, he took first at sectionals in the slalom with a final time of one minute and 1.09 seconds. At states, he placed second in the slalom and first in the giant slalom, where he finished just under a minute and 56 seconds at Gore Mountain. His success has made him the most decorated Section V skier in the 2025 state championship. We congratulate Michael Stevers of Fairport as our Elite Award winner for boys alpine. ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – Here are your News 8 Primetime 585 Elite Award winners for boys hockey. True two-way defenseman who guided the team to their 16th sectional title in program history. Labeled the cornerstone of his team as an assistant captain, this player plays every other shift in big games to support his team. Defensively? He blocks opponents' top players. Offensively, he mans the point of power play and finished in the top 5 of goals and top 10 in points for Section V defensemen. Showing up when it matters most, he tallied four points in five playoff games, and led his team to the state semifinals. He was named First Team All State by the New York Hockey Coaches Association. We award Pittsford senior Drew Rickets as our Elite Award winner for boys hockey at a large school. This forward had the most goals in Section V this year, with 30. His 18 power play points also topped Section V and he was third with 29 assists. A five-year varsity player, in 101 career games, he totaled 111 goals, 118 assists and 229 points — more than a goal AND an assist per game. He graduates as his program's all-time leading scorer and was a prime playoff performer with eight goals in three playoff games including two in the sectional finals.
