Roth, who wrote and directed the first two Hostel films in 2005 and 2007, is set to write, direct and executive-produce the TV series. Chris Briggs and Mike Fleiss, who produced all three of the movies, are also executive producers.
Plot details for the series along with Giamatti's character details are currently being kept under wraps.
The Hostel franchise follows innocent tourists who are kidnapped by a mysterious group known as the Elite Hunting Club. The group's rich clientele pays to torture and murder the tourists in unknown Eastern Europe locations. The first movie was led by Jay Hernandez (Magnum P.I.) while Part II was headlined by Lauren German (Lucifer), Bijou Phillips (Raising Hope) and Heather Matarazzo (Now and Again). Both movies collectively banked $116 million at the box office, with budgets of just $4.8 million and $10.2 million, respectively.
Giamatti is a four-time Emmy nominee and one-time winner. He took the trophy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries home in 2008 for his titular role in HBO's John Adams. His other TV credits include Inside Amy Schumer, Billions and Black Mirror. In 2026, he'll star in Paramount+'s Star Trek: Starfleet Academy as the series' first Big Bad.
Roth's other film credits include Thanksgiving, The Green Inferno, The House With a Clock in Its Walls and Borderlands.
