Alleged burglar tried to hit Elk Grove home that burned only hours before
An Elk Grove family already facing the tragedy of their home burning also had to deal with an alleged thief breaking in, police say. Elk Grove police say the home suffered significant damage in a fire on Tuesday. Then, early Wednesday morning, police say someone apparently broke into the partially burned home and tried to burglarize the place. Officers were able to catch the suspect as he ran out, however. The suspect has been identified as 31-year-old Marcus Miller. "It's hard to understand someone trying to victimize a family already going through such a devastating event, but we're thankful no further harm came to the residents," Elk Grove police said in a statement. Miller is facing charges of burglary, possession of burglary tools, and resisting arrest. He has been booked into Sacramento County Jail.

Man killed in solo motorcycle collision in Elk Grove
( — The Elk Grove Police Department responded to a fatal motorcycle collision on Saturday night. According to EGPD, a motorcyclist was reportedly down northbound Waterman Road south of Sheldon Road just before 11:30 p.m. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a solo rider down in the center median. Vacaville Police find deceased woman in Alamo Creek After an investigation, EGPD determined the motorcyclist was a 42-year-old man who was heading northbound on Waterman Road approaching the center medical when he lost control and hit it. The rider was pronounced dead at the scene, said EGPD. The Sacramento County Coroner's Office will identify the victim. Motorcyclist dies in crash after losing control of vehicle, Elk Grove police say
A motorcyclist died late Saturday after losing control and crashing into a center median in Elk Grove, police said. Officers were called just before 11:30 p.m. to Waterman Road, south of Sheldon Road, for a report of a motorcycle crash, police said in a news release. The victim, a 42-year-old man, was going northbound on Waterman Road when he lost control and hit a center median, said Officer Jason Jimenez, a spokesperson for the Elk Grove Police Department. The man died at the scene. He will be identified by the Sacramento County Coroner's Office after his family has been notified. Jimenez said the investigation into the cause of the solo crash is ongoing. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Elk Grove Police Department at 916-478-8143.

Elk Grove police release video of officer shooting armed suspect in In-N-Out parking lot
ELK GROVE – The Elk Grove Police Department has released body camera footage of an officer shooting an armed suspect in an In-N-Out parking lot in April. Around 11:15 p.m. on April 11, the Elk Grove Police Department responded to the In-N-Out on Stockton Boulevard after receiving reports that a man was harassing juveniles and acting erratically. The person who reported the incident believed the suspect had a gun in his pocket. When officers arrived, they found the suspect, later identified as 50-year-old Jerry Tolliver, standing at a table outside. The police department said officers approached the suspect in an effort of trying to keep him away from reentering the restaurant and putting others at risk. When officers tried to tell Tolliver to put his hands up, he reached toward his pocket, police said. The officer then told him to take his hands out of his pockets. But Tolliver ran between two parked cars with a gun in his right hand and pointed it at an officer, police said. An officer shot Tolliver as he ran into the parking lot, police said. A K-9 was also deployed, as Tolliver was still holding the gun, police said. Tolliver was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive, police said. No officers were injured. Police said they recovered this gun after shooting Jerry Tolliver in an In-N-Out parking lot in Elk Grove on April 11. Elk Grove Police Department They recovered a .38 special that was fully loaded with six rounds, authorities said. Tolliver was arrested and is facing assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer and felon in possession of a firearm charges. The officer-involved shooting remains under investigation. Elk Grove police investigating deadly crash on Waterman Road
ELK GROVE – A deadly crash has a major Elk Grove road closed Tuesday morning. Elk Grove police say they're investigating a single-vehicle crash on Waterman Road, near Elliot Springs Drive, that left at least one person dead. Exactly what led up to the crash is unclear. No details about the person who died have been released. Due to the crash, Waterman Road is closed between Elliot Springs Drive and Sheldon Road.
