Tecumseh siblings become entrepreneurs with a flower stand
A trio of young siblings in Tecumseh wanted to earn some extra cash and decided to create a flower stand. Three siblings from Tecumseh have become entrepreneurs, starting up a flower stand to make some extra cash this summer. 6-year-old Hendrick, 5-year old Nixon, and 1-year-old Elliot are the minds behind the business. 'We pick them from our neighbour's yard and our yard,' the siblings said. 'Then we use pots to put them in, then people can keep the pots.' The trio set up the stand on Wednesday at the corner of Maissonneuve near Lesperance with the help of their parents, creating beautiful bouquets. The bouquets sold for just $5 each. Hendrick said he is planning to save the money for his first home and Nixon wants to fill up the toy bin on the pediatrics floor at the Windsor Regional Hospital. If you missed out on the stand, don't worry. They plan to set up again at the same intersection, sometime next week.

Eliza Howell concert honors nature and neighborhood
A summer concert series featuring unique compositions written for five city parks continues this weekend at Eliza Howell Park in Brightmoor. The big picture: Sounds from the Park is a collaboration between the Detroit Parks Coalition and Marcus Elliot, a local saxophonist, composer and educator. Supported by a $100,000 grant awarded last year, Elliot has written music inspired by the cultures and surrounding communities for each park in the series. If you go: The free Eliza Howell concert is Saturday from 7:30-8:30pm. Elliot will be joined by a string quartet, a pianist and a drummer, he told BridgeDetroit. What they're saying:"Every performance is completely different," Elliot told Bridge. "Every park has a theme as well, so this park's theme is 'Reverence for Nature,' because there's just so much beautiful access to nature at Eliza Howell." Eliza Howell is among the city's largest parks, with 250 acres on the northwest side along the Rouge River. More than 2 miles of hiking trails, ponds and a wildflower prairie are among its natural attractions. How it works: The composed music centers on interviews conducted over the past year with the parks' stewards and visitors. "We've been taking those interviews and I've been both placing it in the music and also writing a lot of the music around the interviews," Elliot told Bridge. "We play these interviews of people in the community talking, sharing their stories and sharing why the parks are important to them and then we have the music happening." The intrigue: The show coincides with the free Sidewalk Festival, a two-day block party-style event at the park Friday from 6-8pm and Saturday from 2-9pm. Zoom out: Saturday's concert is the third in the Sounds From the Park series. The first was June 14 at Chandler Park, with a house/techno vibe, followed by a percussion-heavy show on July 17 at Clark Park.

It's always sunny in Philabieldia.
All the news from Nintendo's July 2025 Direct showcase See all Stories Posted Jul 31, 2025 at 1:47 PM UTC It's always sunny in Philabieldia. Square Enix closed out today's Nintendo Switch 2 partner showcase with a game that features names liable to send you into fits of confused laughter. Launching next year, The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is an HD-2D action RPG with a silly but acceptable name. (Elliot? Really?) But Philabieldia, the name for where the story takes place, is truly one of the most ridiculous fantasy names I've ever heard. Philabieldia, wow. You know what, I'm in. The ridiculous name signals to me this is the exact kind of high-fantasy, low-stakes silliness I enjoy in not- Final Fantasy Square Enix games. Kimberley shows decrease in GP numbers as rural GPs hit record numbers across WA
The Kimberley has recorded a decline in GPs despite the number of doctors working across rural and remote WA surpassing the 1000 mark for the first time. Despite the milestone, rural WA will need more than 1270 general practitioners to head bush by 2030 to meet rising demand — an increase of nearly 300 doctors on today's figures. This has sparked fears existing attraction and retention efforts may not be enough. 'While turnover remains a challenge, particularly in remote regions like the Pilbara and Kimberley, we hope this signals a growing trend of stability,' Rural Health West chief executive Professor Catherine Elliot said. 'To have more than 1000 rural GPs practising in Western Australia for the first time is a major milestone. However, we also know that rural and remote communities are continuing to grow, and demand for care is increasing. 'The 2024 WA Rural GP Summit identified that we'll need at least 300 more rural GPs by 2030 so while this is a great step forward, we still have a way to go.' While the numbers represent a positive trend for rural and remote communities in WA, she said it would only be sustainable if GPs felt well-supported in their roles. 'That includes access to communities of practice, peer connection, and the latest evidence-based trends so they can deliver the highest standard of care and stay supported throughout their careers in the bush,' Professor Elliot said. As of November 30, 2024, 1009 GPs were recorded as practising in rural WA — a 5.8 per cent increase year-on-year. The most significant gains were seen in resident GPs, with an additional 38 doctors, and GP registrars, with an increase of 13. The proportion of female GPs also rose to 48 per cent — up 20 per cent since 2014. Interestingly, International Medical Graduates made up 67.5 per cent of new arrivals and represent more than half — 53.5 per cent — of the rural GP workforce. Regions which recorded a rise in GP numbers included South West, Great Southern, Pilbara, Mid West and the outer metropolitan area. Kimberley, Gascoyne, Wheatbelt and Goldfields–Esperance did not. Turnover in the permanent GP workforce also showed signs of improvement, dropping to 12.5 per cent — down 2.2 per cent year-on-year.
