Fan pleasantly surprised with Sheamus' football knowledge on YouTube show
Football shirts are everywhere these days. The rise in 'blokecore' and various brands and cultural icons like Oasis and Guinness doing collabs with Bohemian FC recently is evident that football shirts are more popular than ever.
It's lead to some popular shows on YouTube based around old school jerseys, none more popular than Shirt Shopping on the Away Days channel. In the latest edition of the show presenter Ellis Platten was joined by WWE superstar and Dublin legend Sheamus in the Classic Football Shirts store in New York City.
Sheamus is an avid Liverpool fan and has been a growing personality on the NBC's Premier League coverage in recent years as England's top league continues to grow stateside. He spent the opening part of the episode showing off an array of stars that he remembered from the Serie A in the 90's like Roberto Baggio, Attilio Lombardo and his personal favourite former Inter and Uruguayan defender Ruben Sosa.
Hen then went on and spoke avidly about his tastes in sponsors on shirts, being an advocate against gambling sponsors which are prevelent in the Premier League today and also having a disdain for Ireland jerseys having the likes of Eircom and Opel sponsored across them, feeling a National side shouldn't have sponsors. It was refreshing to see Sheamus in a new light, outside of putting on banger after banger in a WWE ring. He went down as a fan favourite online with one commenter on YouTube began sharing the love; 'I love Big Shamo anyway, but now knowing he knows ball restores my faith in mankind.' 'Sheamus's knowledge of players and football is unreal just banging out names like he watched them yesterday' another added.
'Honestly blown away by this episode, Sheamus' knowledge of shirts and football in general really surprised me for some reason but it was awesome to listen to and feeling his passion come through the screen' said another commenter on YouTube as fans were delighted to see the former four-time World Champion.
Lastly one fan on X was happy to see the WWE legend speak out against Gambling sponsors, commenting; 'Sheamus really knew his 90s football and great to hear him preach about gambling sponsors and other kit bugbears.' Sheamus rocking an away Ireland jersey from 1994. Pic: Away Days/YouTube
Sheamus will be returning to his hometown in less than two weeks as Smackdown comes to Dublin for the first time ever. It will be the first time Dublin has hosted a WWE live event and it's set to be a star-studded event.
Irish heroes like Sheamus and Becky Lynch will be available for meet and greets meanwhile new WWE Champion Cody Rhodes will be on the show and it will also mark the last time John Cena will be on a WWE show in Ireland as the 'Greatest of All Time' is set to retire at the end of this year.
