Here's when Reds pitcher Andrew Abbott will pitch for the NL in the MLB All-Star game
ATLANTA — Grab the popcorn, chill the six-pack and get ready for the sixth inning of the MLB All-Star Game. That's when Cincinnati Reds left-hander Andrew Abbott said he's been told to expect to pitch for the National League squad in his first career All-Star appearance. Advertisement Abbott, who joins shortstop Elly De La Cruz representing the Reds in tonight's game mentioned at least "a little nerves" ahead of the big event. "It's sinking in," he said of the All-Star experience and recognition. "It's great. I told everybody once I get to the game, I'll be good. Once we get past all this (pregame hype and hoopla), we'll be fine." Pittsburgh's Paul Skenes, Abbott's All-Star locker neighbor, is the NL's starter tonight. Reds make shocking Christian Encarnacion-Strand decision with latest roster move
Christian Encarnacion-Strand probably has the most raw power on the Cincinnati Reds. It's either him or Elly De La Cruz for that honor. Well, he's not on the Reds anymore, at least for now. On Saturday, Cincinnati sent CES down to Triple-A Louisville in order to activate Jake Fraley from the injured list. Encarnacion-Strand has admittedly not unlocked his rookie year success (13 HRs, .477 slugging) in the two seasons since. He's still a dangerous bat every time he steps in the box. Encarnacion-Strand dealt with a wrist fracture in 2024, which probably hasn't helped matters, either. MORE: Cal Raleigh puts up stats never before seen in MLB history He rakes in Triple-A, a career 1.048 OPS at that level, so he'll likely go down and hit well until the Reds need him again. Fraley does help in his ability to play the outfield, so it's not a shock that the Reds want him around. It's just a bit surprising that they've sent such a powerful hitter down. Now it's up to Encarnacion-Strand to get himself back to the bigs. Reds' Elly De La Cruz trying on Terry Francona's glasses is the best thing you'll see today
Baseball is the best. Just take the Cincinnati Reds pitching change on Monday in which superstar shortstop Elly De La Cruz decided to enjoy his time with manager Terry Francona. Elly snagged the glasses off Tito's face and put them in front of his own eyes. Clearly, the prescription was a little stronger than De La Cruz would've wanted. MORE: Former Yankees, Astros slugger reaches 500 career home runs far from home Tito is known to be a player's manager. De La Cruz certainly felt comfortable messing around with him. It's just a reminder that the little things can go a long way over the course of this long season. And in the year Francona returned to managing, it's been a great thing that De La Cruz has done exactly what he's called on to do.
