Mother and son, 20, arrested while trying to flee the U.S. after he caused deadly street-racing crash in New Jersey

A Staten Island mother and her 20-year-old son have been arrested in Miami while attempting to leave the country just weeks after the son was allegedly involved in a deadly street-racing crash. Alvi Limani was driving a BMW at dangerous speeds on the Garden State Parkway in New Jersey on June 29 when he lost control and smashed into two other cars - flipping multiple times in the air. His passenger, Albion Hysenaj, 20, was ejected from the car and died at the scene. Another passenger was also ejected and taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital with serious injuries. Police say Limani and a third passenger, Emily Harrington, 19, ran from the scene of the crash. Video footage shared on social media appears to show Limani being led off a plane in with his mother, Vilma Vneshta, 42, after they allegedly attempted to escape the country. Detectives tracked them down and arrested both on July 17. A TikTok video posted last week by user @Jhongb85 showed a massive police presence at a New York airport as the duo were escorted down a staircase and loaded into a police car for extradition back to New Jersey. Prosecutors have charged Limani with first-degree aggravated manslaughter, second-degree vehicular homicide, and second-degree knowingly leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. He was also charged with third-degree causing death while driving with a suspended license, two counts of third-degree endangering an injured victim, two counts of third-degree endangering, and third-degree tampering with public records. Manwhile, Vneshta was charged with third-degree hindering. Harrington was also hit with charges of third-degree hindering, fourth-degree obstruction, and fourth-degree conspiracy to endanger another. Police say the other driver allegedly involved in the race, Jeter Ogando, 23, of Perth Amboy, is charged with second-degree vehicular homicide, third-degree endangering another and fourth-degree assault by auto. The investigation is ongoing.

Monticello elementary school trains next generation of entrepreneurs

WHITE HEATH, Ill. (WCIA) — Starting your own business can be a scary thought, but not for fourth graders at White Heath Elementary School. After weeks of planning, students got to show off their entrepreneurial skills at the school's library. They made everything from baked goods to jewelry and even set their own prices. On Friday, kids had the chance to see what other classmates developed, and they said this creative assignment taught some valuable lessons. Homer firefighters honored for saving man's life 'It was great to have all the kids learn about business and economics and services,' said fourth grader Emma Gallivan. 'We learned about like goods and needs and wants, and we learned how to use money,' said student Emily Harrington. 'And it was really enjoyable because we got to make our own product.' Students said they enjoyed this type of project and hope it continues to be a part of the fourth-grade curriculum. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
