Alan Cumming confirms he's back for Romy and Michele's High School Reunion sequel

Alan Cumming has signed up for the 'Romy and Michele's High School Reunion' sequel. The 60-year-old actor is excited to be reprising his role as Sandy Frink in the follow up to the 1997 comedy, in which Lisa Judrow and Mira Sorvino played 28-year-old friends, Michele Weinberger and Romy White, who invented fake careers to impress their former classmates at a 10-year high school reunion. Asked about the sequel, Alan told People magazine: 'It's very exciting. It's been really fun actually talking to Robin [Schiff], the writer and Lisa [Kudrow] as well about it.' The 'Traitors US' star confirmed the movie will be released in 2027 but didn't share any plot details. He insisted: "I can't really say much without giving too much away. 'Obviously everyone's still in each other's lives. But it may be in a different way... It's nice to think of those characters still being old friends.' Alan thinks it is "kind of appropriate" for the film to come out in 2027 as it coincides with the original's 30th anniversary, though he noted that was "hilarious and also terrifying". He added: 'Next year we'd shoot it and it would come out the following year, which would be 30 years since the [first] movie came out.' Alan is in occasional contact with his former 'Romy and Michele's High School Reunion' castmates. He said: "I see Lisa. We keep in touch and talk, sporadically. 'Once in a while I run into Justin Theroux. Or, you know, Camryn Manheim I see a little bit.' Tim Federle will direct the sequel, which is due to begin filming in Los Angeles in June. 'Emily in Paris' showrunner Robin Schiff, who penned the original 'Romy and Michele's High School Reunion' movie, is returning to write the sequel. Laurence Mark will also be back to produce the follow-up movie, alongside Barry Kemp, while Lisa and Mira will also serve as executive producers. While the motion picture was a moderate box office hit, it has since become a cult classic. Last year, Oscar winner Mira admitted it was "full force ahead" regarding a sequel. She told Us Weekly magazine: "Robin Schiff, the writer, is working on it. She's currently working on 'Emily in Paris', so she's finishing up her draft to present to the studio." Asked what she wants from the sequel, she said: "I just still want [Romy and Michele] to be as relatable, but also as dumb and lovable as they ever were. Like, I don't think they've learned that much in the time in between, but they still have that unstoppable spirit and that friendship and that idiocy that makes everybody kind of love them. "And so, that essential nature of them and the heart that's at the centre of that, that heart has to stay there." Plans for the sequel were first discussed after Kudrow and Sorvino returned to their characters in 2022 to present the Outstanding Ensemble in a Comedy Series prize at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards.

Lily Collins: Motherhood has broadened my horizons

Bang Showbiz | Los Angeles Lily Collins 'couldn't be more grateful' to be a mother. The 36-year-old actress and her husband, film director Charlie McDowell, announced earlier this year that they had welcomed a baby girl via a surrogate, and Lily took to Instagram on Sunday to celebrate her first Mother's Day. Alongside a photo of Lily cradling her baby girl, the brunette beauty wrote: 'My first Mother's Day. No words can describe this new journey, this new life. I love you with all of my heart Tove, with all of the parts of it that have grown deeper since the day you were born and all of those I never even knew existed. You have expanded my world, broadened my horizons, and widened my smile more than I knew was possible. And to think, it's only the beginning. I couldn't be more grateful or honored to be your mum… (sic)' Lily - who is the daughter of music star Phil Collins - announced the arrival of her baby girl via an Instagram post earlier this year. The Hollywood star wrote at the time: 'Welcome to the center of our world Tove Jane McDowell. Words will never express our endless gratitude for our incredible surrogate and everyone who helped us along the way. We love you to the moon and back again… (sic)' Prior to that, Lily revealed that she was keen to have a child one day. The actress - who battled an eating disorder during her teenage years - actually decided to discuss her health troubles publicly because she had a long-term ambition of starting a family. Speaking to Us Weekly back in 2017, Lily explained: 'Everyone has a different form of recovery. I never had an 'aha' moment. 'My reason to finally start talking about [my eating disorder] was the moment I realised I wanted a family.' The actress was determined to be open and honest about her health struggles before she decided to start a family. The 'Emily in Paris' star - who married Charlie at Dunton Hot Springs, Colorado in September 2021 - explained: 'I wanted kids. I didn't want this to be something I bring into that.'

‘Emily in Paris' Season 5 to Film in Rome in May With Main Cast Back, Including Lucas Bravo, Lucien Laviscount and Eugenio Franceschini

Lily Collins' Emily Cooper will be living the dolce vita in Rome with her Italian beau Marcello in the much-anticipated fifth season of Netflix's 'Emily in Paris.' Or at least some of it. The new season of hit romantic comedy created by Darren Star will kick off production this May in Rome before moving to Paris later in the summer. Slated to premiere later this year on Netflix, Season 5 is expected to give Emily (Lily Collins) an embarrassment of riches when it comes to her love life, bringing back her two one-and-off boyfriends, the sexy French chef, Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) and dashing Brit, Alfie (Lucien Laviscount), alongside her new Italian love interest, Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini). Some actors, however, won't be returning to the show, such as Camille Razat, who played Camille, the 'villain,' in the first four seasons of the show. The last season was marked by the arrival of a new sexy and deceitful antagonist, Geneviève, played by Thalia Besson (who happens to be the daughter of French director Luc Besson) but she hasn't yet signed on to be back. The plot of Season 5 remains under wraps, and Variety can reveal that Season 5 picks up days after Season 4 ends, as Emily settles into her beautiful apartment in Rome to run Agence Grateau's Italian office. Alfie has moved on with a new girlfriend after Emily chose Gabriel over him. But ultimately, Emily grows tired of Gabriel's ambiguous relationship with Camille and indecision, and starts flirting with Marcello Muratori, the charming and confident heir of a family-owned cashmere company in the picturesque fictional village of Solitano, near Rome. Season 4 wraps with a cliffhanger as Gabriel, who's had an epiphany, surprises Emily by showing up on the doorsteps of her new flat in Rome upon learning that she has relocated there. Late last year, Bravo sparked some headlines after expressing his frustration over his 'Emily in Paris' character Gabriel. While promoting Melanie Laurent's 'Freedom' in which he plays a notorious French gangster, Bravo told IndieWire that his character in 'Emily in Paris' had been 'slowly turned into guacamole.' 'The 'sexy chef' was very much part of me in Season 1 and we grew apart season after season because of the choices he makes and because of the direction they make him take. I've never been so far away from him,' Bravo said. Yet, Bravo will be back and so will Gabriel's Michelin-rated restaurant, which will be one of the backdrops of the upcoming season which is currently being written, according to our intel. The actor's career has taken off in the three years thanks to 'Emily in Paris.' He landed roles in 'Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris,' 'Tickets to Paradise,' 'The Honeymoon' and 'Freedom,' as well as Noemie Merlant's sexy genre movie 'The Balconettes.' 'Emily in Paris' Season 5 is executive produced by Tony Hernandez, Lilly Burns, Andrew Fleming, Stephen Brown, Alison Brown, Robin Schiff, Grant Sloss and Joe Murphy. It's produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, Darren Star Productions, and Jax Media. The impact of 'Emily in Paris' on popular culture and soft power has been such that French President Emmanuel Macron told Variety in a cover interview last October that France 'will fight hard' for the series to remain in the country. That declaration then provoked a lighthearted feud between the French President and Rome mayor Roberto Gualtieri.
