Rockets Young Star Named 'Untouchable' Amid Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade Rumors
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Houston Rockets vastly overperformed this past year, finishing the regular season as the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference. Despite this, Houston did fall short in the postseason, losing to the Golden State Warriors in the first round. More NBA news: Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade Rumors Heat Up With Latest Report But the Rockets' young core showed a lot of promise and took a massive step forward. Due to this, Houston is now seen as a threat in the West, and it could have them be very active this offseason. The Rockets have been heavily linked to Milwaukee Bucks star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo early in the summer. Due to Houston having a ton of draft picks and young players to send out for Antetokounmpo, the Rockets do make a lot of sense as a landing spot. Houston could offer any of Alperen Sengün, Jalen Green, Jabari Smith Jr., Reed Sheppard, or even Amen Thompson in any potential deal. But one of the young stars is being seen as untouchable for the Rockets entering the offseason. According to Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report, Thompson should be seen as "untouchable" despite all the trade rumors swirling. "Thompson is more valuable than all of them. An A-plus athlete who made the All-Defensive first team, the spring-loaded wing seized a starting job midway through the year and established himself as one of the top young players in the league. Playmaking instincts, elite rebounding for his position and unsurpassed defensive disruption make Thompson a foundational asset. If the Rockets swing a deal for a superstar, they'll work hardest to keep Thompson out of it." More Photo byThompson took another step forward this year and was massive in helping the Rockets become one of the better teams in the NBA. His dual-threat ability is special and gives the Rockets a legitimate weapon to use on the court. More NBA news: Top 5 Landing Spots For Kevin Durant Amid Trade Rumors For the season, Thompson averaged 14.1 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game. The forward even improved on his 3-point shooting, going from 13.8 percent in his rookie year to 27.5 percent this past year. If Houston were to make a move for a player like Antetokounmpo or even Kevin Durant, they would be wise to avoid trading Thompson. The Rockets have built themselves up nicely, but it may be time to push the chips in for a star. Dyson Daniels Shares Vision for Building on NBA Most Improved Player of the Year
NEW YORK, NEW YORK - DECEMBER 11: Dyson Daniels #5 of the Atlanta Hawks celebrates a shot during ... More the second half of the quarterfinal game of the Emirates NBA Cup at Madison Square Garden on December 11, 2024 in New York City. The Atlanta Hawks defeated the New York Knicks 108-100 to advance to the semifinal round. (Photo) Atlanta Hawks guard Dyson Daniels is the NBA's Most Improved Player of the Year. "The great barrier thief" beat out Detroit Pistons star Cade Cunningham and Los Angeles Clippers center Ivica Zubac. Daniels received 44 first-place votes and garnered 332 total points. There was a considerable gap between him and his competition for the George Mikan Award. Zubac came in second with 186 points. Cunningham, the bronze medalist, registered 122. Between Daniels coming in second for Defensive Player of the Year, which went to Cleveland Cavaliers power forward/center Evan Mobley, and winning Most Improved Player of the Year, it's evident who won the trade that sent him to Atlanta and Dejounte Murray to the New Orleans Pelicans. It's a change of scenery that Daniels cited in an appearance on Inside the NBA after getting named the recipient of the George Mikan Award. "My third year in the league, and my first two being in New Orleans, I felt like I kind of went in there and wasn't myself," said Daniels. "I feel like I kind of took a backseat role. "So, I came into this third year wanting to put my foot down and go out there and show what I could do. And I think this is a small step in the right direction this year, and I feel like I've got a lot more in me." The 22-year-old guard produced 14.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 3.0 steals per game in the 2024-25 campaign. He's the fifth player to average at least those figures in a season. Daniels joins some elite company. That list features Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Michael Ray Richardson, and Alvin Robertson. The six-foot-eight defensive Swiss army knife also led the league in total steals [229] and steals per game this season. When asked about the offseason trade that rerouted him to Atlanta and embracing his new opportunity, Daniels conveyed the following to Inside the NBA hosts Ernie Johnson, Shaquille O'Neal, Charles Barkley, and Kenny Smith. "Being in New Orleans [for] my first two years, I wasn't happy with how I performed. Coming to Atlanta, I got an opportunity to get a fresh start, get that starting two-guard spot, and play alongside a really good team. "I think it's coming in with the right mindset, working hard in the offseason, having a good Olympic campaign, and coming in and going out there and being aggressive. Being myself and not caring about making mistakes. I think that was the main thing this year is [that] I got trust in my coaches [and] trust in my teammates, and I was able to go out there and be myself." Daniels also shared his goals moving forward while discussing the prospect of winning the Most Improved Player of the Year Award again. "I know I've got so much more left in me to show in this league and so much more improvement," he stated. "For me, it's going to be about taking that next step next year and setting new goals. I want to be an All-Star in this league. I want to be a championship player. So, I set the bar high. It's about going out there and executing that now."

Emirates retains spot as region's most valuable airline brand: Report
20 Apr 2025 23:56 Khaled Al Khawaldeh (Abu Dhabi) Emirates retained its position as the most valuable airline brand outside the US and within the region, according to consultancy firm Brand Finance's latest power ranking. Dubai's flagship carrier also remains in the fourth spot globally. The annual ranking evaluates the value of an airline's name, logo, and brand identity, with a high valuation suggesting strong presence, recognisability and customer perception in the brand valuation was up 37% year on year, reaching $8.4 billion ahead of US-based Southwest Airlines and trailing Delta, United, and Southwest Airlines. 'The Dubai-based carrier continues to reinforce its image as a luxury airline through award-winning in-flight service, extensive route expansion, and high-profile sponsorship campaigns,' the report said. 'Emirates' ongoing recognition as the best airline in the Middle East further bolsters its brand equity on the global stage.' Regionally, the airline beat Qatar Airways, which ranked 8th; Saudia at 32nd; and Abu Dhabi's Etihad Airways at 39th. With two brands on the list, the UAE captured 7% of the total $132.6 billion value of the top 50 global brands, behind only the US and two UAE carriers have long sought to bolster their international brand image through a range of sponsorship deals, marketing campaigns, and philanthropic investments. The Emirates logo currently appears on several major football team jerseys, including AC Milan, Arsenal, and Real Madrid. Since 2015, the airline has also been the title partner for the FA cup – the UK's premiere knockout football cup competition. The airline has also sought to boost its brand image across the sporting world with major deals in tennis, horse racing, golf, cricket, cycling, sailing and even Australian rules football. In 2024, the airline added basketball to its growing portfolio, becoming the official global airline partner of the NBA in a deal that will place the Emirates logo on all referee jerseys and see the NBA in-season tournament renamed the Emirates NBA Cup. Meanwhile, Etihad Airways has maintained a strong portfolio of sponsorships and partnerships, including the continued jersey and stadium naming rights to Manchester City FC. The airline is also the name sponsor of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, and maintains the naming rights to Etihad Arena, which has become a global destination for combat sports.
