Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Los Angeles Lakers have had a quiet NBA offseason thus far. Rob Pelinka has made a couple of outside moves, but the team has not had an aggressive approach thus far. Part of the reason for that is due to their financial situation. LeBron James opted in to the final year of his contract with the team that will pay him just over $52.6 million. They will also need to get a major long-term deal done with Luka Doncic in the near future. Pelinka and company are planning the future around Doncic. They do not want to make moves that will take them out of the running to bring in a future superstar to pair with Doncic. More Photo byWhile all of that makes sense, the Lakers do need to make moves if they want to compete for a championship this season. It seems likely that they will have one more year with Doncic and James playing together barring a trade or buyout with the 40-year-old superstar. He revealed one major concern that he has about Los Angeles and the way the roster currently stands. During an exclusive interview with D.J. Siddiqi of O'Neal opened up that he doesn't think the Lakers have enough perimeter shooting. "They have a legitimate big now, got two premier players," O'Neal said. "I'm still worried about the shooting. It's a three-point league now. Not guys that can shoot, (I'm talking about) bonafide shooters. Guys that are guaranteed, like JJ Reddick. He was a bonafide shooter. They got the point guard, got the off-guard, got a legitimate center. Their chances are much better now." He also opened up about his thoughts on what kind of season the team should be able to put together. O'Neal expects Los Angeles to have some kind of home-court advantage come playoff time, which would place them among the top four teams in the Western Conference. "The Thunder are coming off the championship. They're going to be high, they know what it takes to win the championship," O'Neal said. "Denver, they're going to be making some noise. It's about you get eight spots to make the playoffs, they're going to have to be between one through eight. I expect them to have some type of home court advantage." Being led by Doncic and James will give them a fighting chance. Making the additions of Deandre Ayton and Jake LaRavia are quality moves, but O'Neal would like to see more shooting. Perhaps Pelinka can make that happen before the season gets underway. For more on the Los Angeles Lakers and general NBA news, head on over to Newsweek Sports.

Suni Lee: Social media took OG Anunoby relationship too far

It's not uncommon for NBA players to have connections with fans and celebrities who come to attend their games. However, Suni Lee and OG Anunoby took on a different meaning of that this past season. The six-time Olympic medalist, a self-proclaimed fan of basketball, was seen sitting courtside often under the Madison Square Garden lights to watch the Knicks go on their run to the Eastern Conference Finals — their first in 25 years. Advertisement Following several of those games, Lee would be seen talking to Anunoby, which led fans to spread relationship speculations like wild fire on social media. Lee, 22, put all the perceived notions to bed recently. 4 OG Anunoby #8 of the New York Knicks greets Suni Lee after the game against the Orlando Magic during the Emirates NBA Cup on December 3, 2024 at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York. 'But yeah, we're just friends, and I'm really good friends with a bunch of the guys on the Knicks team, like [Karl-Anthony Towns], and then also I'm really close to [Towns' partner Jordyn Woods] as well, so it's cool to see them doing their thing. Honestly, I just enjoy watching basketball, which is why I went to most of the games.' 'There's nothing there,' she added. 'We're just friends. I fully support all of them, and I support the Knicks.' 4 Suni Lee hugs OG Anunoby #8 of the New York Knicks after the game against the Orlando Magic during the Emirates NBA Cup on December 3, 2024 at Madison Square Garden. She knew Towns while he spent nine years with the Timberwolves, who drafted him first overall in 2015. 'I met Jordyn and KAT when I was in Minnesota, and when they were in Minnesota as well,' Lee said. 'And then when I moved to New York, he got traded, so it was really nice to see some familiar faces in New York and just keep that friendship.' 4 Suni Lee hugs Karl-Anthony Towns #32 of the New York Knicks after the game against the Orlando Magic during the Emirates NBA Cup on December 3, 2024 at Madison Square Garden. The NBA revealed its groups for the 2025-26 Emirates Cup, also known as the in-season tournament, on Wednesday. There will be no shortage of competition for the Brooklyn Nets during this year's tournament. The Nets will compete in East Group B alongside the Boston Celtics, Philadelphia 76ers, Detroit Pistons and Orlando Magic. Advertisement The Nets' group is one of six that make up the annual tournament. Each group consists of five teams from the same conference, randomly selected based on their win-loss records from the 2024-25 season. Brooklyn will face each team in its group once. Teams that finish with the best record in each group automatically qualify for the knockout round. The best second-place team in group play from each conference will also advance to the knockout round as wild cards. While they lost Jayson Tatum to an achilles tear, the Celtics boast a high-level roster stacked with experienced veterans. Meanwhile, the Magic and Pistons are up-and-coming teams who have added to their rosters over the last calendar year. The 76ers are coming off an injury-ravaged season but have a star-studded roster and just welcomed a dynamic rookie in VJ Edgecombe. Advertisement The Nets failed to advance past group play in the NBA's first two in-season tournaments. Still in the early stages of a rebuild, they could have trouble stacking up with the rest of their group again this year. FanDuel Sportsbook set Brooklyn's initial over/under win total at 20.5, the second-lowest in the NBA. The Nets parted with veterans Cam Johnson and D'Angelo Russell this summer and welcomed Michael Porter Jr. and Terance Mann via trades. They will have an influx of inexperienced rookies after making an NBA-record five first-round selections in the 2025 draft. This year's Emirates NBA Cup will tip-off on Oct. 31. Sticking with the defending champs, they'll be going up against the New York Knicks, Chicago Bulls, Charlotte Hornets, and Miami Heat.
