Two women die after being pulled from the water at nearby UK beaches
The tragedies were witnessed by several people visiting the beaches to enjoy the weekend weather.
Two women have tragically died just hours apart after entering the sea at popular UK beaches in the same region.
The first, believed to be in her 50s, was pulled out of the water at Portreath Beach near St Ives, Cornwall, on Sunday, August 10.
She is said to have suffered a cardiac arrest. Paramedics raced to the scene just after 12.30pm but were unable to save her.
An air ambulance was also reportedly spotted landing on the beach.
Less than four hours later, another woman's body was discovered at Porthcothan Beach, near Padstow, Cornwall.
It is thought that she got into difficulty while swimming. She was found face-down in the water, the Mirror reports.
Both beaches were busy with people enjoying the hot weather over the weekend, with several people witnessing the tragedies.
The RNLI also responded, but were able to do no more than retrieve both bodies. It has since issued a warning on the dangers of the water.
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: 'Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of both women at this incredibly difficult time. There is no indication that the two incidents are connected.'
The Force Incident Manager (FIM) said officers were alerted at around 12.35pm on Sunday to a report from the ambulance service about the woman at Portreath Beach.
The FIM added police were called to assist paramedics as the beach as it was very busy at that time. It is understood that the woman is yet to be formally identified.

It comes after a separate incident on a beach in East Lothian, which saw a quick-thinking couple rescue a family swept out to sea.
Sean Bowman and Emma Picken were at Tyninghame Beach with their three children, when they saw a 12-year-old girl in difficulty. Her parents had been caught in a rip current attempting to save her.
Sean swam out towards them, and was assisted by a surfer while Emma called emergency services.
Eventually, all three were brought back to shore and handed into the care of the RNLI lifeboat crew and emergency responders. The man was airlifted to hospital, while the girl and her mum were treated by paramedics.
