The Expensive Type Of Steak Kim Jong-Un Eats
Kim Jong-Un was not originally supposed to succeed his father, Kim Jong-Il, as the Supreme Leader of North Korea. For a time, it seemed that the dictator might be replaced by his eldest son, Kim Jong-Nam, or his second-oldest son, Kim Jong-Chol. But Jong-Nam made mistakes (most notably getting caught in Japan with a fake passport trying to visit Tokyo Disneyland), and Jong-Chol was reportedly seen as too feminine for Jong Il's tastes. Jong-Un was the most like his father, not only in terms of ruthlessness, but in terms of his preference for expensive cuts of steak. (This, despite the fact that the people of North Korea have been dealing with famine and food shortages for decades.) Kenji Fujimoto, the personal sushi chef for Kim Jong-Il who correctly predicted that Jong-Un would succeed him as leader, spilled some tea about Jong-Un's expensive tastes. He would often make sushi for the future leader when preparing meals for Jong-Un's father, and recalled banquets with rich, decadent foods such as shark fin soup and, indeed, Kobe steak -- a kind of Wagyu beef with intricate marbling that makes it incredibly tender and flavorful. Because the standards for what can be called Kobe beef are so exacting, it's incredibly expensive, costing anywhere between $200 and $500 per pound. But for men like Kim Jong-Un, money (or consideration for his populace) is clearly no object. Chef Kenji Fujimoto reported that both Jong-Il and Jong-Un favored the toro (the fatty meat of the tuna belly) when eating sushi. Beyond the influence of his father, Kim Jong-Un has been known to consume a litany of luxurious foods: caviar, foie gras, lobster, Parma ham, and expensive whiskeys, cognacs, and champagnes. He has also displayed some tastes which are more pedestrian, like meaty pizzas and Emmental cheese (which can be used to top your French onion soup). However, Kim may have taken them to extremes. It was once rumored that he ate cheese so much that he began hiding from the public. As for the rest of North Korea, they don't eat quite so luxuriously. Common dishes include injo gogi bap (a kind of sausage made out of soybeans), kimchi (a dish they have in common with their neighbors to the south, despite South Korea's occasional kimchi shortage), and maize porridge. Air fryer Pret ham & cheese croissant copycat recipe so good it's 'dangerous'
Make your own homemade versions of Pret's Ham and Cheese Croissant which will be your 'absolute kryptonite' Pret has become the king of morning coffees and breakfasts on-the-go, but one food creator has shared a foolproof recipe for recreating one of its most popular pastries at home. TikToker Saskia revealed that one particular pastry from the coffee chain is her 'absolute kryptonite'. Pret's ham and cheese croissant is packed full of rich smoky bacon, cured ham, Emmental cheese, and a hearty tomato sauce. Instead of forking out for one of these every morning, Saskia has perfected her own homemade version which can be whipped up in no time at all. Saskia explained: 'The ham and cheese pret pastries are my absolute kryptonite. I cannot walk past a Pret without grabbing one, so I made sure to stock my freezer full of these copycats for easy postpartum brekkies. 'I scoured the ingredients on the website to make sure I was getting it right - they have a bacon lardon tomato sauce and then ham on top (silly me thought they just had a slab of bacon) and these are absolute heaven. Freeze them raw then chuck in the oven or air fryer for 12-15 mins (beware they get MOLTEN hot, so you'll have to let them calm down a bit before you can tuck in). In the video, Saskia said: 'I'm dangerously obsessed with the Pret Ham and Cheese pastry, and I have nailed this recipe for you guys. They're the first thing I decided to stock my postpartum freezer with because they're quick and easy as a breakfast or lunch option to eat one-handed.' Saskia uses smoky bacon in the tomato sauce, using Emmental cheese and gooey mozzarella 'just like they do in store'. She continued: 'These are perfect to cook from frozen.' What's even better is that you can whip these up in the air fryer in just 15 minutes. Pret fans shared their praise for her recipe. Pierce wrote: 'Omg amazing, thank you for this! I've nearly gone bankrupt buying them so much.' Charlotte agreed: 'Oh my god you're doing the lords work by posting this.' Lydia simply said, 'This is genius,' while Char commented, 'I built this fyp brick by brick. I think about these so often. I love them. And now I love you for doing this for me.' So if you're keen to recreate one of Pret's most popular pastries at home, this is what you'll need. Ham & Cheese Croissants Ingredients 200g smoked bacon lardons 1 large onion, finely diced 1 carrot, finely diced 4 garlic cloves, minced 1 teaspoon herbes de provence 2 tablespoons tomato puree 2 x 400g tins of mutti finely chopped tomatoes 1 teaspoon sugar 2 teaspoons red wine vinegar 2 x sheets of ready to roll puff pastry 2 x packets of thick sliced ham 2 x packets of sliced cheese (Emmental/mozzarella or both) Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper 1 egg, beaten Method Fry the bacon lardons until golden and crisp. Add the onion and carrot and sweat for five to ten minutes until soft. Add garlic and herbs and cook for a minute, before adding the tomato puree and cooking out for two minutes. Add the tinned tomatoes, sugar and vinegar and leave to bubble away for 15 to 20 minutes. Season to taste. Cut the puff pastry into six rectangles per sheet, and score an internal rectangle around the edge of each. Spread a few tablespoons of the tomato sauce, top with a slice of ham and cheese, then tuck two opposite corners together to enclose the centre of the filling. Egg wash and season generously with fresh black pepper. Either freeze on a flat tray and cook from frozen (15 minutes in an air fryer at 180*C or 12 minutes if cooking fresh).

The High-Dollar Steak Kim Jong-Un Eats
Often referred to as a hermit kingdom due to its strict isolationist policies, North Korea remains an inscrutable nation to most people outside of the country. Its leader, Kim Jong-Un, who was preceded by grandfather Kim Il-Sung and father Kim Jong-Il, is just as inscrutable as the nation itself. We do know that Kim Jong-Un has been linked to a multitude of crimes against humanity, accused of assassinating family members for political gain, and opted to run North Korea as a totalitarian dictatorship, which means that the citizenry enjoy no personal freedoms and must fully abide by the strictures set by the government. We also know quite a bit about Kim Jong-Un's preferred foods, and unsurprisingly for a person born into such wealth and prosperity, the dictator has a taste for the finer things in life. This includes frequent meals featuring imported Kobe beef, much loved by Kim Jong-Un as well as his late father, Kim Jong-Il. While pricing varies, it's not uncommon for Kobe beef to cost as much as $500 per pound. According to a sushi chef that was previously employed by the pair, Kobe steaks were often accompanied by Cristal, a high-end brand of Champagne also known for its steep price tag. Other favorite indulgences of Kim Jong-Un include Emmental cheese and Parma ham as well as gold foil-wrapped cigarettes from iconic fashion brand Yves Saint Laurent. Read more: Martha Stewart: What She Really Eats Kobe beef is so beloved (and expensive) because it must meet several strict criteria to earn its lofty designation. Kobe beef must be derived from cattle of the Tajima bloodline of the Japanese Black breed from Japan's Hyogo Prefecture. Cattle must also be fed a special diet to facilitate exquisite marbling and earn a Beef Marble Score of 6 or greater. (This Japanese beef scoring system features a quality range of 3 to 12.) For Kim Jong-Un, who was estimated to have $5 billion in personal wealth in 2019, the high price of Kobe beef probably seems like a minor expense. However, when compared to the immense poverty affecting the North Korean people, the dictator's excesses are distinctly cruel and uncaring. Food insecurity is a global crisis, but the citizens of North Korea face insurmountable challenges due to the totalitarian government under which they subsist. As reported by the World Food Programme, 10.7 million people living in the country are underfed, while 18% of North Korean children exhibit health effects associated with chronic malnutrition. Food shortages are also common, as Kim Jong-Un is primarily concerned with maintaining his authority and accumulating more power instead of ensuring his people have the resources they need. While there's little the outside world can do to help people struggling within North Korea, Kim Jong-Un's actions show the dangers of what can happen when a dictator steeped in unbelievable privilege is afforded unlimited power.
