Emo's Ice Cream Shack opens with discounts and charity event
PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — Even though it's spring, it's starting to feel a lot like summer. Emo's Ice Cream Shack in Peoria held its opening day of the season on Friday, with all items being discounted from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m., and all of the proceeds from the special going towards the Susan G. Komen Foundation. 'It's the best time of year,' said Kira Griffin, who's worked at Emo's for 11 years. 'I love coming back and seeing all the customers, all of our regulars. I love being a part of the tradition of the 6 a.m. opening. It's the only day of the year where you get to have ice cream for breakfast.' Customers flooded the dairy store, as Griffin said the line during the half-off special was as far back as she could see, and the store sold more than 1,500 hot dogs. 'We're known for our Coney Dogs, which is a chili dog with mustard and onion,' Griffin said. 'We had the same coney sauce from the original owner. It's patented, so we've had the same recipe for like over 60 years. And then ice cream-wise, we're known for our lemon ice cream. We bring that back every single year, It's one of our most popular.' 'We're so grateful for your support and can't wait for another amazing season,' Emo's wrote on Facebook. Emo's is open every day from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
