11 women recognized for their impact on the community

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – State Senator Lea Webb is recognizing women throughout her 52nd district for the impact they've had on their communities. Webb held her 3rd annual Women's History Month Award Reception on the 18th floor of the State Office Building in Binghamton on Friday. She honored 11 women with a variety of recognitions including the New York State. Commendation Award, the Empire Award for Business Excellence, a Certificate of Merit and a State Senate proclamation. Former Broome County Arts Council Executive Director Sharon Ball was one of the commendation award recipients. Ball says she is surprised and humbled by the honor. 'There are so many people doing so much in the community right now. I just feel honored and thankful to Senator Webb for thinking of me. But I'm still stunned,' said Ball. Other Broome County recipients were Jennifer Lesko, Executive Director of the Urban League, Tanya Williams, owner of Paradise Hair World, Caribbean Patty World and several other local businesses, Denise Yull, Binghamton University Professor and President of the Board for the non-profit CARES, and three young entrepreneurs, sisters Jordyn and Taylor Durham, co-owners of Simple Luxuries and Lilly Williams, owner of Lilly's Luxuries. Webb hosted her third annual Women's History Month Award Reception on March 21 at the State Office Building in Binghamton. During the event, she celebrated 11 women from across Senate District 52 who have had a profound impact on the community. The honorees include small business owners, educators, public servants, community advocates, a nonprofit leader, and a poet laureate. 'Women's History Month is a time to reflect on the extraordinary contributions women have made throughout history and continue to make today. It is a reminder that women's voices, leadership, and resilience have always been at the heart of progress. This year, I am proud to recognize incredible local leaders—entrepreneurs, activists, and change-makers—who are making a real difference in our communities.
