AC/DC Reaches A Historic Milestone With The Song That Won't Stop Selling

AC/DC's 'Thunderstruck' reaches 520 weeks on Billboard's Rock Digital Song Sales chart, marking a ... More full decade as a top rock digital seller in the U.S. INDIO, CALIFORNIA - OCTOBER 07: (EDITORIAL USE ONLY) Angus Young of AC/DC performs onstage during the Power Trip music festival at Empire Polo Club on October 07, 2023 in Indio, California. (Photo byfor Power Trip) AC/DC's 'Thunderstruck' is a once-in-a-century kind of hit. The track not only defines the band's time together, but it's also recognized as one of the most successful in hard rock history. Few tunes have come close to matching its ubiquity and commercial success. Decades after its release, the cut remains a staple — and at least in the United States, it's a consistent bestseller. This week is especially notable for 'Thunderstruck' on one Billboard ranking, as it reaches a milestone that very few compositions will come close to achieving. On the latest edition of the Rock Digital Song Sales chart — the Billboard tally that ranks the bestselling rock-only tracks in the nation — 'Thunderstruck' climbs from No. 15 to No. 9. As it holds on, and even improves, the tune celebrates 520 frames on the list. This period makes it a complete decade as one of the top-selling cuts in that style in the largest music market in the world. 'Thunderstruck' is AC/DC's first track to spend 520 weeks on the Rock Digital Song Sales chart. It's easily the band's longest-running success. The runner-up, 'Back in Black,' has only managed to remain on the tally for 127 stays. 'Thunderstruck' eclipses that total four times over. Those two titles are the only ones in the group's discography to make it to triple digit stays on this purchases-only roster. 'Thunderstruck' surpasses every other smash AC/DC has sent to the Rock Digital Song Sales chart throughout the years. The group has pushed 19 tunes onto the tally, and the other 18 have combined for 224 weeks on the list. That's less than half as long as 'Thunderstruck' has held on. The generation-defining smash also outpaces every other top 10 hit on the current edition of the Rock Digital Song Sales tally. Combined, those nine tunes have accumulated 146 weeks on the ranking — while 'Thunderstruck' beats that figure three-and-a-half times over, and still manages to rejoin the loftiest tier on the list. 'Thunderstruck' isn't only succeeding on the Rock Digital Song Sales chart this week. It also appears inside the top 10 on both the Hard Rock Streaming Songs and Hard Rock Digital Song Sales tallies as well.

AC/DC's Smashes Are Uniformly Soaring

AC/DC's "Thunderstruck" climbs to No. 5 on the U.K.'s Official Rock & Metal Singles chart as four of ... More the band's classics rise simultaneously. INDIO, CALIFORNIA - OCTOBER 07: (EDITORIAL USE ONLY) (L-R) Stevie Young, Brian Johnson, Angus Young, and Cliff Williams of AC/DC perform onstage during the Power Trip music festival at Empire Polo Club on October 07, 2023 in Indio, California. (Photo byfor Power Trip) Even without releasing anything new, AC/DC still commands an incredible amount of space on the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart in the U.K. The group ranks among the most successful names on the list at the moment, with multiple smashes appearing at the same time. Not only does the Australian rock outfit take up more real estate than almost any other act, but this time around, every one of its tunes manages to climb as sales increase. These decades-old classics are, somehow, still improving after so much time. AC/DC fills four spaces on the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart, meaning the group controls 10% of the entire 40-position ranking, which looks only at the bestselling tunes in those styles. This time around, all four smashes — which have already spent years on the list — manage to climb at least one spot, with most surging multiple rungs at once. "Thunderstruck" is AC/DC's highest-rising hit on the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart this week, which is usually the case. The title climbs to No. 5, growing by one position from its previous placement at No. 6. Fellow time-tested winners "Back in Black," "Highway to Hell," and "You Shook Me All Night Long" also climb ever so slightly, appearing this frame at Nos. 21, 24, and 34, respectively. Among that bunch, the least successful track is "You Shook Me All Night Long," which is still regarded as a generation-defining win. The tune is the only one of the four that has yet to reach No. 1, as it has thus far stalled in the runner-up spot. It has also spent the least amount of time on the tally, with just 457 frames to its credit. That sum would be historic for almost any other act, but when it comes to AC/DC, the other three charting successes on the Official Rock & Metal Singles list have all passed 600 frames. "Thunderstruck" is the only one of AC/DC's songs that manages to appear on more than one tally this week. As it climbs on the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart, it also advances on both the Official Singles Sales and Official Singles Downloads lists, coming in at Nos. 66 and 62, respectively. In both instances, sales increased so much that "Thunderstruck" was able to push forward by more than 10 spots.

Marren Morris Misses The Albums Chart For The First Time

Maren Morris's Dreamsicle debuts at No. 28 on the Top Album Sales chart but misses the Billboard ... More 200, marking a commercial low in her major label career. INDIO, CALIFORNIA - APRIL 13: (FOR EDITORIAL USE ONLY) Maren Morris performs with Zedd at the Outdoor Theatre during the 2025 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival at Empire Polo Club on April 13, 2025 in Indio, California. (Photo byfor Coachella) It was almost a decade ago that Maren Morris broke out as one of the most exciting new names in country music. She did so with her major label debut album Hero and its singles "My Church" and "80s Mercedes," which both hit the Billboard charts and made a significant impact in 2016. Lately, Morris has been shaking things up, trying new styles and even stepping away from the country space where she got her start. The plan hasn't worked out as she hoped, and her new album Dreamsicle has turned out to be something of a commercial disappointment — the first of its kind for the singer-songwriter. Dreamsicle was released earlier in May and reaches just one Billboard chart this week, now that its first full tracking frame has concluded. The set opens at No. 28 on the Top Album Sales chart. Luminate reports that it sold a little over 2,900 copies in its first tracking period. Sadly, that's the only roster in the United States where Morris launches her latest project. Dreamsicle is now the first major label album by Morris to miss the Billboard 200, which ranks the most consumed albums in America. Her first three full-length projects with Columbia — Hero, Girl, and Humble Quest — all debuted on the list when they were brand new. She peaked at No. 4 with her sophomore effort Girl in 2019. Three years ago, Humble Quest brought her to a new low of No. 21, but her latest set doesn't even manage to crack the ranking. Since the album veers away from country stylings and into a more adult contemporary pop sound, it didn't leave a mark in the country space either. Morris also misses the top 10 on the Top Album Sales chart for the first time in her career with a new full-length major label release (she did share several albums as an independent artist that didn't chart). Girl stands out as her highest-rising win, as it missed out on hitting No. 1 by just one space. Hero peaked at No. 4, while Humble Quest counted No. 9 as its high point. Morris collects the thirteenth-highest-rising debut on the Top Album Sales chart this frame. The list is dominated by Even in Arcadia by metal act Sleep Token. Also new to the tally are just-released offerings from musicians like Kali Uchis, Forrest Frank, Blake Shelton, Arcade Fire, and Counting Crows.

Eric Church Hits A New Career Low

Eric Church's Evangeline Vs. the Machine debuts at No. 30 on the Billboard 200, becoming his ... More lowest-charting studio album in the U.S. Indio, CA - April 27: (GETTY SYNDICATION OUT) Friday headliner Eric Church performs on the Mane Stage on the first day of Stagecoach Country Music Festival at the Empire Polo Club in Indio Saturday, April 27, 2024. (Allen J. Schaben / Los Angeles Times via Getty Images) After a break of four years between album releases, Eric Church returns to the Billboard rankings with his brand new full-length, Evangeline Vs. the Machine. The project appears on a number of tallies in the United States, and performs well across most of them. That said, when it comes to total consumption, the country superstar's latest effort doesn't quite live up to the success of his earlier releases. While fans are surely enjoying the new collection, it has not turned out to be one of his biggest commercial triumphs. In its first full tracking frame, Evangeline Vs. the Machine moved 20,500 equivalent units in the U.S. That figure comes from Luminate, which gathers streaming and sales data, which is used to compile the Billboard rankings. Of that sum, just under 13,000 were pure purchases, with streaming activity accounting for the rest. That total is enough to send Evangeline Vs. the Machine to No. 30 on the Billboard 200, the magazine's list of the most consumed albums in the U.S. For many musicians, reaching No. 30 would be a major win, as it still lands within the top 40. For Church, though, it's a disappointing placement. Evangeline Vs. the Machine now stands out as Church's lowest-peaking studio album on the Billboard 200. Previously, that distinction belonged to his debut full-length, Sinners Like Me. Released in 2006, the set reached as high as No. 29 — a respectable showing for a new artist at the time. This is also Church's first album to miss the top 10 on the Billboard 200 in well over a decade. Only his first two releases — Sinners Like Me and Carolina in 2009 — did not reach the upper tier. The latter peaked at No. 17, which at the time marked a new high for the singer-songwriter. Over the course of his career, Church has sent 14 projects to the Billboard 200. Seven of them have climbed into the top 10, with two — Chief and The Outsiders — rising all the way to No. 1. The only other projects from the country musician to peak lower than Evangeline Vs. the Machine are non-traditional studio LPs: his compilation 4 Album Collection and three EPs — Caldwell County, Mr. Misunderstood: On the Rocks Live & (Mostly) Unplugged, and the simply-titled & — none of which broke into the upper quarter of the Billboard 200.

Desert Rodeo Brings a Bold Western Spirit to the Southern California Desert
