Busy Sunday in Denver with Pride Parade and Metallica Concert, storms could disrupt plans
Sunday is shaping up to be an active day in Denver, with the Pride Parade in the morning and a Metallica concert at Empower Field in the evening. The day begins sunny across the metro area and the eastern plains of Colorado, but a sharp change in the weather is expected by the afternoon. CBS Strong to severe thunderstorms are likely to develop after noon in the foothills, spreading into the Denver metro area and points east by around 2 p.m. The greatest risk for severe weather stretches from the east side of Denver through DIA and across the eastern plains. The primary threats will be damaging wind gusts and large hail, but one or two storms could briefly spin up a tornado. CBS A key factor in how the afternoon unfolds will be the timing and intensity of a cold front expected to move through later Sunday afternoon. If it arrives earlier or stronger than expected, it could either enhance or limit storm development. Stay weather aware and have a backup plan if you're attending any outdoor events.

Broncos buying up land at potential stadium location
The Denver Broncos have repeatedly emphasized that all options are on the table for their stadium plan, including the possibility of staying at Empower Field at Mile High. Meanwhile, as the front office explores potential options, the team has been buying up land for a potential stadium site. The team has purchased $146 million worth of properties around Burnham Yard since September, according to a report from Justin Wingerter of BusinessDen. Advertisement That site is about a move southeast of the team's current stadium, which the Broncos lease from the city. That lease runs through 2031. In a statement to BusinessDen, the team repeated its stance about considering all options. 'As we've previously shared, we are involved in a comprehensive process regarding the future of our stadium,' the team told BusinessDen. 'No determinations have been made as we continue to evaluate several options in and around the Denver metro area.' If the Broncos do build a new stadium (at Burnham Yard or elsewhere), the team's chances of hosting major events like the Super Bowl will increase dramatically. The team has repeatedly said nothing has been determined yet, but there has been heavy speculation that the club will ultimately decide to build a new stadium. Advertisement Denver's NFL franchise is owned by the Walter-Penner family, with Greg Penner the controlling owner. They purchased the club in 2022 for $4.65 billion. The Broncos are currently working on major renovations at their training facility, and the ownership group has already spent more than $100 million on upgrades to Empower Field at Mile High. The ownership group has not been afraid to splash money to upgrade the team's facilities. Perhaps a new stadium is next on the to-do list. Related: These 25 celebrities are Broncos fans. Colorado's Empower Field at Mile High to take precautions for heat during The Weeknd concert
This Saturday, thousands of people are expected to attend The Weeknd concert at Empower Field at Mile High, and venue organizers are working to make sure the heat doesn't ruin the fun. The Weeknd is a popular Canadian singer and songwriter famous for hits such as "Blinding Lights," "Starboy" and "Die For You." His stop in Denver is part of the "After Hours Til Dawn Tour" with Playboi Carti. Officials expect there to be a large crowd and heavy traffic during the concert and are encouraging guests to arrive early. Lots will open at 3 p.m. The Weeknd performs onstage for "After Hours Til Dawn" 2025 Stadium Tour at State Farm Stadium on May 09, 2025, in Glendale, Arizona. Kevin Mazur via Getty Images for Live Nation The Denver metro area will be under a heat advisory Saturday, with temperatures possibly climbing into the triple digits. The heat advisory will go into effect at 11 a.m. and remain in place until 6 p.m. The stadium management company said there will be several precautions in place, including additional medical staff to help concert goers with heat related issues. Some areas around the stadium will be used as expanded medical treatment areas, and over 30 free water refilling stations will be positioned throughout the stadium. Organizers said there will also be water refilling stations outside the east and west areas of the stadiums for guests waiting to enter. Precautions will also be in place to protect staff from the heat, with additional break areas with hydration stations.

Broncos president excited about possibility of stadium project
The Denver Broncos have not ruled out staying at Empower Field at Mile High, but there has been widespread speculation that the club will ultimately decide to build a new mega stadium that will attract future events like the Super Bowl. The Broncos have not made any announcement yet -- speculation of a new stadium is merely speculation -- but team president Damani Leech has admitted the thought of a new stadium project does excite him. Advertisement 'I love this role, and I love this job," Leech said in March. "Part of what I love so much about it is making things better. Not just for myself, but for our staff and also for our fans. A stadium is a signature opportunity and moment to do that and be a part of it. "You talk to other colleagues who've been involved in stadium projects, and they talk about it. It's transformational for their career. It's a special moment. Given the life cycle of a stadium, you're lucky if you get a chance to be a part of it just once in your career. So that alone is pretty exciting.' The team's current stadium lease runs through the 2030 season, and it usually takes about four years to build a stadium. So if Denver opts to build a stadium from scratch, a decision might arrive soon. Leech will be eager to be at the forefront of that project, should the team decide to take that step.
