Sammy Hagar Scores His First Top 10 Hits With A Touching Tribute

"Encore. Thank You. Goodnight.," Sammy Hagar's emotional new single honoring Eddie Van Halen, debuts ... More on three Billboard charts with over 2,000 sales. (Photo by) Sammy Hagar has enjoyed several different lifetimes of popularity in the music world. He got his start leading the hard rock group Montrose, and was later known not just as a soloist, but also as the vocalist of Van Halen — during two several eras, no less. These days, Hagar is more commercially successful thanks to his live performances and various businesses, but he does still occasionally release music under his own name. His latest effort, a tribute to a lost friend and former bandmate, reaches the Billboard charts this week and earns the rocker a somewhat unexpected smash. Hagar recently released the single "Encore. Thank You. Goodnight." The tune was inspired by a dream he had about Eddie Van Halen, the musician who lent his last name to the hugely successful rock band. Hagar was, of course, a member of Van Halen for several years, and the two knew one another very well. Van Halen passed away in 2020. According to an interview with Rolling Stone, Hagar said he dreamed about his friend around the time of his passing. He's been thinking about the vision ever since, and he has now turned it into music as a way to say goodbye again. "Encore. Thank You. Goodnight." debuts on a trio of Billboard charts this week. It appears on three rankings dedicated to pure purchases, as Luminate reports that in its first full tracking frame of availability, the Hagar solo cut sold about 2,050 copies in the U.S. A little more than 2,000 pure purchases is enough to help "Encore. Thank You. Goodnight." debut at No. 20 on the Digital Song Sales chart, Billboard's ranking of the bestselling tunes throughout America. The cut performs significantly better on a pair of genre-specific rankings, where it faced much less competition. Hagar launches "Encore. Thank You. Goodnight." in the runner-up rung on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales tally and in third place on the Rock Digital Song Sales roster. In each instance, Hagar collects his first placement on the charts under his own name with this tribute.

Sammy Hagar's New Song "Encore. Thank You. Goodnight." Was Inspired by a Dream About Eddie Van Halen

Sammy Hagar has been dreaming about his new single. The new song "Encore. Thank You. Goodnight." released on Friday, April 25, was inspired by a dream the legendary rocker had involving his Van Halen bandmate, the late Eddie Van Halen. "I can't wait for the world to hear this very special song Joe and I wrote as a long overdue thank you to Eddie Van Halen for the music, the good times, and the dream that inspired this track, 'Encore, Thank You, Goodnight,' " Hagar, 77, wrote on Instagram on Tuesday, April 22 — just days before the single's debut. 'About two months ago, I had this dream and Eddie came. We were in a room like this, [with] a bunch of people around. It was just like he'd been gone. It was not like he was passed, but he had just been out of my life and we hadn't seen each other for a while," Hagar said at the time. "He's going, 'Man, let's write some music!' I said, 'Yeah, f–-- it, man. Here, let's go!' " he continued. is now available in the Apple App Store! Hagar told the publication that in his dream, Van Halen showed him a guitar "lick" that he had last heard during the 2004 reunion tour. "He did this harmonic thing and he slid it up to a chord, like a slide guitar. We wrote a song with that lick," Hagar recalled. "I remembered it. I got up in the morning and I wrote the song. It's called, 'Thank You.' I used the f-----' lick that he showed me in the song. I told Jason [Bonham], 'I just really don't know what to say lyrically,' " he continued. At the time, Hagar had "goosebumps, head to toe," recalling the dream. "So I wrote it [about that experience], and we'll do that song someday." Fast-forward to 2025, and the song is here. He added, "It's not meant to be anything more than a thank-you — with love, with respect, and with one hell of a guitar solo. Joe brought in that big, emotional, guitar-driven energy that feels like Eddie's spirit but is entirely of Joe's creation." "With Michael Anthony's thundering bass and stellar Van Halen-esque background vocals and Kenny Aronoff's relentlessly powerful driving rhythms, the song really came together on all levels," Hagar continued. The new song, with its accompanying music video dropping on Sunday, April 27, comes days before Hagar kicks off his Best of All Worlds Las Vegas residency on April 30. "Encore. Thank You. Goodnight." is available to stream. Read the original article on People
