Video of violent altercation in Cincinnati goes viral, prompting police investigation

Police are investigating a violent altercation involving multiple people that happened in downtown Cincinnati on Saturday night after video of the brawl went viral on social media. According to police Chief Teresa Theetge, the incident 'was a sudden dispute between individuals following a verbal altercation,' and was not connected to the Cincinnati Music Festival that was happening at the same time. Theetge said she is 'in complete disgust waking up to the viral video' of the incident circulating online. 'The behavior displayed is nothing short of cruel and absolutely unacceptable,' she said in a statement on Sunday. 'Our investigative team is working diligently to identify every individual involved in causing harm.' Police did not share any information about the altercation, what caused it, or how many people were involved. They did not clarify if there had been any arrests as of Monday afternoon. Theetge is asking anyone with information on the incident to contact police. Videos circulating online show a chaotic scene involving at least a dozen people. In one video, a few men can be seen standing face-to-face, having what appears to be a verbal altercation, before one man seems to hit another in the face. This seems to set off a full-blown physical altercation, where the man who threw the first hit is beaten by multiple people in the middle of a street. The violence includes kicks and stomps to his face. Two other men who appear to know the man being beaten also appear to be attacked by the crowd. In another video, a woman attempting to defend him gets knocked unconscious by someone in the crowd. Blood could be seen running from her mouth as she lay on the ground. It is not clear what happened before these videos were taken. The incident has garnered much attention on social media over the weekend, particularly on Elon Musk's X, where many high-profile rightwing accounts such as 'LibsofTikTok' and 'End Wokeness' framed the fight as an assault by a Black 'mob' on a white couple. Musk himself published posts decrying the fight and calling for mainstream media attention. He did not mention race in his post. Prominent Republican politicians also weighed in, with Vice President JD Vance answering a question Monday about the fight, saying he saw a 'mob of lawless thugs beating up on an innocent person.' Vance's half brother Cory Bowman is running for mayor of Cincinnati and will face the incumbent, Aftab Pureval, in a November election. advanced on Tuesday to compete in the general election. Pureval said he was outraged by the fight, calling it 'horrifying to watch,' and 'intolerable' in any part of the city. The mayor said he is confident that arrests are 'forthcoming.' 'That's not who we are as a city,' Pureval said in a statement on Monday. 'Since the fight occurred, I have been in consistent communication with Chief Theetge, and our police have been working around the clock to investigate and bring perpetrators of violence to justice.' Pureval reiterated that the altercation was not connected to the Cincinnati Music Festival, Cincinnati Reds games, the Big3 tournament, 'or any of the large events that took place over the weekend.'

Socialist Zohran Mamdani once questioned ‘purpose' of prisons, jails — raising alarm bells: ‘It's scary'

Lefty frontrunner mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani once questioned the 'purpose' of jails and prisons — setting off alarm bells among law enforcement officers who blasted the comments as 'out of touch' and dangerous Friday. The Queens socialist, who easily won the Democratic primary last month, made the eyebrow-raising remark when he was running for his current state assembly seat nearly five years ago. 'I think that frankly, I mean, what purpose do they serve, right?' Mamdani said when asked by a co-host of the 'The Far Left Show' in August 2020 if prisons were obsolete. Advertisement 'I think we have to ask ourselves that … I think a lot of people who defend the carceral state, that defend the idea of it and the way it makes them feel, they're not defending the reality of it and the practices that are part and parcel of it,' he continued. 'Because if you actually break it down … how many people come out the prison system better than they went in to the prison system?' The clip — which resurfaced on social media this week after being shared by the 'End Wokeness' account and shared widely in conservative circles — sparked outrage in the law enforcement community. Advertisement 'It's scary that a mayoral candidate could be this out of touch with the realities of living in communities that have historically experienced violence and crime,' one source said. 'Sounds like he will change his tune once he realizes how unhinged that sounds in the real world.' Mamdani made the remarks in August 2020. x/RNCResearch Another law enforcement source ripped Mamdani's comments as 'luxury beliefs' with potential dire consequences that the 33-year-old Democratic nominee and his supporters won't need to face. 'It's the poor neighborhoods that the stalker, domestic abuser, and shooting recidivist will return,' the source argued. Advertisement 'But the rules of civil society that make this city the luxury item most of Zohran's constituency want to live in is a product of that – bad people in jail so they can pretend they live on a movie set.' One Manhattan cop added: 'Letting criminals walk the streets without any repercussions is not repairing anything.' Mamdani's campaign didn't return a request for comment. Mamdani has long criticized the prison system, calling it in one past social media post one of white supremacy's 'many faces,' and stating in another that cutting the jail population was the only way to handle the crisis at Rikers Island. Advertisement In the 2020 interview, Mamdani questioned 'how much harm is actually being prevented versus created' by locking offenders up. 'I think when you ask these kinds of questions people don't always have clear answers, what they always want to pivot to is what are you going to do about murders and what are you going to do about rapists and sometimes you have to ask them what are you doing about them right now?' he said. 'We need a system of justice that will repair the harm that has been caused and address it in a serious way because right now we don't have it and it makes everyone more unsafe and that is the truth of it.' More recently, Mamdani told The City leading up to last month's Dem primary that he wanted to stay the course on closing Rikers, while working with district attorneys in the city to cut loose more defendants pre-trial or divert them from prosecution entirely. Mamdani has been critical of the awful conditions at Rikers Island. AP At a mayoral forum in March, the lefty candidate again vowed to shut down Rikers — which is unlikely to meet its legally-mandated closure date in 2027 — while also promising to throw more funds at alternatives to locking people up, according to Gay City News. Advertisement GOP candidate Curtis Sliwa — who will face Mamdani in the November general election — slammed the past sound bite as 'absolutely preposterous.' 'Of course we need jails to keep dangerous individuals off our streets,' the Guardian Angels founder said in a statement, 'but he is no different than Eric Adams who is shutting down Rikers or Andrew Cuomo who pushed to close it while celebrating the shutdown of over 18 state prisons and passing laws that coddle criminals and let them avoid the jail time they deserve.'

Elon Musk Joins MAGA Meltdown Over Democrat's Call to Fight Trump

Trump supporters are freaking out after Illinois Governor JB Pritzker called for mass mobilization to resist Donald Trump. Pritzker told guests at a New Hampshire dinner full of Democratic activists, officials, and donors on Sunday that '[i]t's time to fight everywhere and all at once.' 'Never before in my life have I called for mass protests, for mobilization, for disruption. But I am now. These Republicans cannot know a moment of peace,' the Democratic governor said, drawing applause and even standing ovations from those in attendance. This did not sit well in Trumpworld. The president's supporters immediately started clutching their pearls and acting as if Pritzker called for mass anarchy. Tech oligarch and fascism enthusiast Elon Musk called the remarks 'crazy' on his X account, reposting video from the 'End Wokeness' account, which is likely run by right-wing influencer Jack Posobiec. Fellow MAGA influencer Benny Johnson accused Pritzker of inciting violence. Douglass Mackey, who went to prison for interfering in the 2016 election, went even further, claiming that Pritzker was 'essentially calling for civil war against MAGA.' Catturd, a well-known MAGA online troll whose real name is Phillip Buchanan, called Pritzker 'scum.' This public freakout over a simple call to activism shows how the right is frightened of even the smallest bit of activism, and seeks to criminalize any dissenting speech. MAGA personalities, such as Kari Lake, regularly call for and celebrate political violence, especially when a court case or election don't go their way (and even when they do). Even Republicans have admitted they're terrified of the MAGA base's threats of violence. Pritzker's words are much tamer than what conservatives say on a regular basis, and are what Democratic voters are looking to hear from their leaders. It seems that the real conservative freakout might be fear over a coming wave of opposition in this country that could result in a loss of power and influence.

Elon Musk issues ominous message to Rep. Maxine Waters after Melania Trump threat

Elon Musk issued an ominous message to a veteran Democrat after she was filmed suggesting that First Lady Melania Trump should be investigated and possibly deported from the United States. Rep. Maxine Waters, 86, came under fire from Musk after the video of her making threats about Melania during an anti-Department of Government Efficiency rally at the weekend in Los Angeles, California, went viral. Musk commented on the video of Waters' late Tuesday on X writing: 'At some point, the many crimes of Maxine Waters will catch up to her.' In the clip, published by X account 'End Wokeness' and also posted by Fox News host Sean Hannity Tuesday, Waters is heard saying: 'If he wants to start looking so closely to find those who were born here and their parents were undocumented, maybe he ought to first look at Melania.' During the speech, Waters then issues an empty threat on the First Lady, declaring: 'We don't know whether or not her parents were documented. And maybe we better just take a look.' Her comments came in relation to the Trump administration's pledge to stamp out birthright citizenship in the U.S. – a bid that has faced multiple hurdles from judiciary officials. The Los Angeles Times pictured Waters amid the fray of hundreds of others protesting at the rally. Despite Musk's remarks about 'crimes,' according to public records, Waters has no criminal record. Melania was born in Slovenia in 1970 and moved to New York in 1996 to embark on her modeling career. While in New York, Melania met Trump at a party in 1998, and seven years later, the pair exchanged vows a Mar-a-Lago. The First Lady was initially granted U.S. entry on an "Einstein Visa," also known as an EB-1, which is traditionally reserved for highly acclaimed people in their field. According to her White House biography, she was granted U.S. citizenship in 2006 and is now the only First Lady to become a naturalized citizen. Melania'ss parents were able to follow her to the U.S. on green cards that she sponsored in 2018. Before floating the idea of investigating the First Lady, Waters is heard in the video slamming the President's calls to rebuke birthright citizenship. 'When he [Trump] talks about birthright, and he's going to undo the fact that the Constitution allows those who are born here, even if the parents are undocumented, they have a right to stay in America,' she says. The clip was shared by Hannity on Tuesday, who titled the footage: 'MAD MAXINE! Crazy California Rep Suggests First Lady Should Be Deported in Unhinged Rant.' The Saturday rally is one of several events that have occurred across the nation since Musk began actively participating in the second Trump administration.
