According to a statement from Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability, during the conference, the state presented its green and blue economy agenda under the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), which emphasises a balance between economic growth, social inclusion and environmental stewardship. Deputy State Secretary (Economic and Planning) Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel highlighted Sarawak's transparent and investor-friendly environment, reiterating the state's zero-tolerance stance on corruption. He invited international partners to collaborate on scaling clean energy solutions and advancing inclusive development. Sarawak Energy Berhad's senior vice president of Corporate Services Siti Aisah Adenan shared the company's long-term sustainability roadmap, which includes plans for cross-border grid integration to enable renewable energy exports and strengthen regional energy reliability. SEDC Energy chief executive officer Robert Hardin outlined ongoing collaborations with Japanese and South Korean partners to develop hydrogen and ammonia export capabilities. He said the Sarawak H2 Hub in Bintulu, developed with Gentari Sdn Bhd, will supply green hydrogen for industrial use and support Sarawak's ambition to become a commercial hydrogen producer by 2027. Earlier in the conference, Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni delivered a keynote during the Sarawak session on Opportunities in Borneo, highlighting the state's energy transition as being driven by strong policy frameworks, continued investment in innovation and close regional cooperation.

‘Opportunities in Borneo' to spotlight Sarawak's clean energy push at EEC 2025 in Scotland
Dr Hazland's keynote in Aberdeen is expected to reflect Sarawak's regional approach ― combining public-private partnerships with technological innovation to monetise sustainability. KUCHING (May 8): A dedicated session titled 'Opportunities in Borneo' will be featured at the upcoming Energy Exports Conference (EEC) 2025, to be held at P&J Live in Aberdeen, Scotland, on June 3. The session will explore Borneo's roadmap for sustainable energy development, along with related investment and export opportunities. 'The session will also highlight Borneo's plans to leverage its hydropower strengths to attract foreign investment,' said the organiser in a statement today. Sarawak Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the two-day EEC, which runs from June 3 to 4. Organised by global supply chain trade association, the Energy Industries Council (EIC), the conference brings together energy industry leaders to explore real-world project opportunities and strategies to accelerate the global energy transition. The event serves as a key platform for the energy supply chain to access new export markets and forge cross-border partnerships. According to EIC chief executive officer Stuart Broadley, Sarawak is not just discussing the energy transition, but actively building the infrastructure to lead it. 'Their strategy dovetails with EEC's goal of turning dialogue into real projects that cut emissions without harming economies,' he said. EEC 2025 aims to bridge the gap between policymakers, operators, financiers, and the supply chain. Panels will examine regional opportunities ranging from Saudi Arabia's mega-projects to Africa's untapped renewables. Breakout sessions will delve into challenges such as de-risking emerging markets and scaling supply chains for offshore wind and nuclear energy. The event will also feature open discussions on cross-border hydrogen ventures and carbon capture technologies applied across different regions. 'As nations race to meet net-zero targets, Borneo's combination of hydropower dominance and hydrogen potential could position it as a critical testing ground for Asia's energy transition,' said Broadley. He added that Dr Hazland's keynote in Aberdeen is expected to reflect Sarawak's regional approach ― combining public-private partnerships with technological innovation to monetise sustainability. In February, the EIC, in collaboration with the state Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability, hosted its flagship regional event, EIC Connect Borneo. The EIC Connect Borneo drew more than 1,000 delegates who discussed the latest energy transition trends and business opportunities in the region. Registration for EEC 2025 is now open at
