Etihad ESCO Completes Dubai's First Successful Energy Savings Performance Contract

Etihad Energy Services Company (Etihad ESCO), a subsidiary of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), has successfully completed Dubai's first Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) with proven results. Launched in 2015, the ambitious retrofit project involved numerous DEWA facilities and concluded in 2024, marking a significant milestone in Dubai's transformation into a smart, green city. The project focused on upgrading essential systems in multiple DEWA buildings, including headquarters and sites in Al Hudaiba, Umm Ramool, Al Wasl, and Burj Nahar. It encompassed the retrofit of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, lighting, water systems, and building insulation, significantly improving energy efficiency. Notably, DEWA's headquarters also saw the installation of advanced chillers with a magnetic bearing system, further optimizing energy consumption. Over the course of the project, Etihad ESCO achieved remarkable results: 35.2 gigawatt hours of electricity saved, 2.8 million imperial gallons of water conserved, and a reduction of nearly 1,452 tonnes of CO2 emissions. These results align with the Dubai Demand Side Management Strategy 2050 and set a new benchmark for operational cost reductions and environmental sustainability. Dr. Waleed Alnuaimi, CEO of Etihad ESCO, highlighted the project's success as a key example of the strong collaboration between DEWA and Etihad ESCO in advancing sustainability goals. 'We are proud of our role in helping Dubai become a global leader in sustainability, delivering long-term environmental and financial benefits,' he stated. The completion of this retrofit project further supports Dubai's ambitions to be a global hub for innovation and energy efficiency, reinforcing Etihad ESCO's commitment to fostering sustainable practices and driving the city's green future.
