Muscat: In its recent meeting held on Friday in Dubai, the General Assembly of the Arab Basketball Federation selected representatives from the Sultanate of Oman to serve on federation committees an affirmation of the active presence of Omani professionals in the Arab sports arena. Said bin Ahmed al Habsi, Chairman of the Competitions Committee at the Oman Basketball Association, was appointed to the Technical and Competitions Committee in recognition of his organisational expertise and contributions to the development of domestic tournaments. Meanwhile, Alaa bin Abid al Hadhrami was selected as a member of the 3x3 Basketball Committee. He is one of the young talents who played a key role in introducing and promoting 3x3 basketball in Oman. These selections took place during the General Assembly meeting, which also witnessed the election of the new Board of Directors of the Arab Basketball Federation for the 2024–2028 term. Members unanimously renewed their confidence in Major General Ismail al Gergawi, President of the UAE Basketball Federation, re-electing him for a fourth consecutive term as President of the Arab Federation in appreciation of his outstanding leadership over previous terms. OBA Chairman Eng Khalfan bin Saleh al Naabi took part in the General Assembly of the Arab Basketball Federation. The meeting, attended by 16 Arab basketball federations, also saw the participation of Eng Khalfan bin Saleh al Naabi, Chairman of Oman Basketball Association (OBA), along with several other federation heads and representatives. The session began with confirmation of the legal quorum, followed by a speech from Major General Al Gergawi, in which he thanked the members for their trust and reaffirmed his commitment to continued development and support for Arab federations in achieving their goals. The meeting also included the formation of a minutes drafting committee and an election committee, the approval of the previous meeting's minutes; and the endorsement of Board reports No 22, 23, 24 and 25. In addition, the technical and financial reports were reviewed, the final accounts of the previous term were approved; and the estimated budget and action plan for the coming period were adopted. The plan includes launching new tournaments and enhancing training and qualification programmes for technical staff across Arab countries. The selection of Omani representatives marks a significant step towards strengthening Arab sports cooperation and reflects the Arab Federation's confidence in Omani professionals and their ability to contribute effectively to the regional development of basketball.
