Last Updated: Gill needed one run in the fifth Test to break Sobers' record, and he achieved the objective during the morning session of the first day's play at The Oval. Shubman Gill is the captain of India's Test team, and on Thursday (July 31), during the first day's play of the fifth India-England Test at The Oval in London, he broke the record of scoring the most runs by an away captain in a Test series played in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia) countries. Gill needed one run in the fifth Test to go past Garry Sobers' tally of 722 runs, and he achieved the objective by taking two runs on the sixth ball of his innings. 13 Batting Records Shubman Gill Can Break During 5th India-England Test
Gill, who has 722 runs to his name in four matches of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, will lead the Indian team in the fifth Test at The Oval from July 31 to August 4. The fifth and final Test of the ongoing five-match Test series between India and England will be played at The Oval in London. During the red-ball match scheduled to take place from July 31 to August 4, Indian men's cricket team captain Shubman Gill would like to maintain his good show with the bat and come up with another big performance. In the four matches played so far, with the help of one double century and three centuries, he has scored a total of 722 runs. Gill has already broken multiple batting records for India in his first series as captain, and the 25-year-old right-handed batter from Punjab will have a chance to break many more batting records in the fifth and final Test as well. Here's a look at the list of batting records Shubman Gill can break during the fifth India-England Test at The Oval: If Gill manages to score at least one run at The Oval, then he will break Garry Sobers record of scoring the most runs in a Test series played in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia) countries by an away captain. During the 1966 England-West Indies Test series in England, Sobers played five matches as captain and scored 722 runs. On the other hand, Gill also has 722 runs to his name in the four matches of the ongoing series. If Gill scores 11 runs, then he will break Sunil Gavaskar's record of scoring the most runs in a Test series for India as captain. During the India-West Indies Test series in 1978-79, Gavaskar played six matches as captain and amassed a total of 732 runs. Most runs in a Test series by Indian captain Gill needs 31 runs to break Graham Gooch's record of scoring the most runs in a Test series played between India and England. Gooch played three Tests against India in 1990 and scored 752 runs. The legendary batter was also the captain of the English team in that series. Most runs in a India-England Test series As of now the overall record of scoring the most runs in a Test series for India is in the name of the legendary Sunil Gavaskar. In 1971, Gavaskar played four Tests against the West Indies team and scored a total of 774 runs. Gill needs to score at least 53 runs in the fifth Test to break that record. If Gill scores at least 78 runs in the fifth Test, then he will become the first cricketer from Asia to score 800 runs in a Test series. Most runs in a Test series by Asian batters The overall record of scoring the most runs in a Test series by a captain is in the name of Don Bradman. In the 1936-37 Ashes series in Australia, Bradman played five matches and in nine innings scored a total of 810 runs. Gill is 89 runs short of breaking that 88-year-old record. If Gill scores at least 89 runs in the Oval Test, then he will also break Bradman's record of scoring the most runs (810) in a debut Test series as captain. At 39, this star batter smashed triple century, his name is..., he played for...
In this collection of pictures we shall know the star batter who smashed a triple century at the age of 39. Let's have a closer look at this interesting story. International cricketers usually decide to retire by the age of 39. There must have been only a few cricketers who have played cricket for their country at this age. (Pic - Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli) Today we have brought the story of a batsman who not only played cricket for his country at the age of 39, but also created history by scoring a triple century. This batsman did the feat of scoring a triple century in Test cricket, which only a few batsmen in the world have been able to do. He troubled the bowlers a lot by staying on the crease for 10 hours. Interestingly, he did this miracle in his last test match and moreover, he scored this triple century with the captain's bat. Let's know about this batsman. The name of this batsman who scored a triple century at the age of 39 is Andy Sandham. This former England batsman not only played a big innings, but it was a historic triple century. It was historic because he became the first batsman to score a triple century in Test history. Andy Sandham was an experienced batsman from England. He did this feat during the tour of West Indies in 1930. This tour was historic in many ways, because West Indies had not registered its first Test win till that time. Sandham scored a triple century in the fourth and last Test match played in Kingston, Jamaica, which ended in a draw. This was also the last Test of his career. Andy Sandham played this stinning innings while opening the innings for England. He troubled the West Indies bowlers by staying at the crease for more than 10 hours (600 minutes). He batted on a pitch where spinners were getting help, but the Windies bowlers were seen kneeling before Andy Sandham. This batsman faced 640 balls and scored 325 runs, in which he also hit 28 fours. He is the only batsman in the world to score the highest individual score and triple century in international cricket at the age of 39. An interesting thing related to his innings is that he batted with his captain's bat. It is said that Andy Sandham had to borrow his captain Freddie Calthorpe's bat because his own bat was broken. Actually, during the England-West Indies series, Sandham sold all his 'extra' bats and kept only one bat with him. However, this bat broke before the last test of the series, due to which he had to take the captain's bat. However, this proved lucky for him because he played a historic innings.

IPL 2025: Kusal Mendis set to replace Jos Buttler in Gujarat Titans squad before Playoffs
Sri Lanka wicket-keeper Kusal Mendis is set to be named as a temporary replacement signing for England wicket-keeper Jos Buttler for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season with the Gujarat Titans. With the rejigged schedule of the IPL clashing with England's limited-overs series with the West Indies and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) naming Buttler in the squads, he will certainly miss the IPL 2025 Playoffs. While the England-West Indies series begins on May 29 in Edgbaston, the Qualifier 1 match of the Playoffs is also slated to be held on the same day. According to NewsWire and ESPNcricinfo, Mendis will join his Lankan teammate Dasun Shanaka in the GT dugout. Mendis is likely to be roped in straight away into the GT XI in Buttler's absence as their wicket-keeping options remain limited, with the uncapped Anuj Rawat being the only other contender. The Titans are on top of the current standings with 16 points in 11 games and are a win away from securing qualification. Batting at No. 3 this season, Buttler has been in phenomenal form, smashing 500 runs at a 71.43 average. The England veteran is likely to feature in the last three league-stage games before flying out for his international commitments. Mendis was recently seen in action in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) where he recorded 143 runs at a 168-plus strike rate for the Quetta Gladiators. Overall, the 30-year-old has amassed over 4700 runs in his T20 career with two centuries and 32 fifties. This will also mark the first time Mendis has been signed for a stint in the IPL. However, with the new replacement rules in effect, the Titans cannot retain the Sri Lankan for the next season.
