Lee Carsley extends contract as England under-21s head coach
England under-21s head coach Lee Carsley has signed a new deal through to the end of the 2027 European Championship. The 51-year-old former Republic of Ireland international was handed the reins of the senior England team on an interim basis last summer following Gareth Southgate's departure, overseeing five wins and one loss in six Nations League matches. Carsley was heavily linked with becoming England's permanent manager before Thomas Tuchel's appointment, but is now back in his under-21s role as the defending champions continue preparations for the 2025 Euros in Slovakia. 'I'm delighted to extend my time with the FA,' Carsley said. 'It's a privilege to have the opportunity to work with a young, talented group and help develop them on the international stage. READ MORE 'While the future is exciting, our immediate priority is this summer's Uefa U21 Euro in Slovakia as we attempt to emulate the achievement of Dave Sexton's teams in 1982 and 1984.' England open their campaign against Czechia on Thursday, June 12th, before further Group B games against Slovenia and Germany.

Two events postponed at new entertainment venue
Two events due to take place at Derby's new entertainment venue have been postponed. An event involving England Under 21s manager Lee Carsley was due to happen on Friday 11 May at the newly named Vaillant Live, followed by a boxing event on Saturday 12 May. The Misfits boxing event has been moved to 16 May, but no date has been set for the football event. Tickets will remain valid for the rescheduled dates and anyone wanting a refund should contact point of purchase. In a social media post, Misfits Boxing, the promoter responsible for the boxing event said the reschedule was down to "scheduling issues". The post also said purchased tickets would remain valid for the new date. Blake Fallows, the podcast host responsible for the event involving Lee Carsley and former Derby County players Dean Sturridge and Paul Williams said on social media: "Absolutely gutted that we've had to move the show at Becketwell Live next Friday back to a date TBC. "On behalf of myself, Lee, Dean and Paul we apologise. It's been a long time of planning and there was only a week to go, but we'll be back." The new £46m entertainment venue has teamed up with BBC Radio Derby and BBC Introducing to give four acts from the city the opportunity to officially open the venue at 12:00 BST on Saturday. The Whiskey Brothers, Dorothy Ella, Terrianne and Riley Marsh will be the first to perform at the 3,500-capacity venue, which is owned by Derby City Council and was handed over to operators ASM Global in February. The opening event, which will be free to attend, will be broadcast on BBC Radio Derby. Acts including John Bishop and Wet Wet Wet have been booked to perform at the venue later in the year. A spokesperson for Vaillant Live said: "We have two events going live both fully sold out, and we're looking forward to opening our doors, with our wonderful staff ready to welcome everyone."
