Our expert has three tips for the Women's Euro 2025 final on Sunday between England and Spain at St Jakob-Park in Basel (kick-off, 5pm BST). We think the Lionesses could fall short against the world champions. Match details World champions look too strong Sunday's battle in Basel between England and Spain is a repeat of the 2023 Women's World Cup final – and it could also produce a repeat of the result. Olga Carmona's first-half strike two years ago in Sydney gave Spain a 1-0 win and their first Women's World Cup triumph and they are understandably favourites at 2/5 to become European champions for the first time. After sweeping aside Portugal, Belgium and Italy by an aggregate scoreline of 14-3 in the group stage, Spain have handled the occasion of tighter games with Switzerland and Germany well. Extra time was required to see off the Germans, who were happy to play physical and scrappy football to disrupt the flow of Spain's midfield machine, but England are not as well suited to operating in that way. There have been glaring issues throughout this tournament for the Lionesses, who struggled to handle the pace of France and Sweden's forwards, losing 2-1 to the former and requiring penalties to beat the latter after trailing 2-0 until the 79th minute. As recently as last month, Spain beat England 2-1 in the Women's Nations League. Their midfield has become even more polished under Montse Tome and they have attacking quality in abundance, managing 120 shots and scoring 17 goals in five games at this tournament. England, reliant on super-subs at Euro 2025, could well take La Roja to extra time but the 3/4 on offer for a Spain win in normal time is worth taking. Pina ready to strike Barcelona winger Claudia Pina has been one of the standout players at Euro 2025 and looks a good pick at 11/10 to score or assist. No player has had more shots on target at this tournament than Pina (10), who has two goals and two assists to her name. Pina also bagged both goals against England in the Women's Nations League last month and should cause problems for a leaky Lionesses rearguard. Bronze could have her hands full Few players wear their heart on their sleeve more than England right-back Lucy Bronze and it is surprising she has not been cautioned during her team's chaotic run to the final of Euro 2025. That is made more surprising by the fact she has committed 11 fouls in the competition, more than any other player except Germany's Elisa Senß (13). And while she is clearly adept at not getting carded, the 8/1 on offer for her to be booked in a final that is likely to be tense and high-octane looks pretty big. Bronze may not be able to get forward as much as she wants in this game as she will be up against a frightening Spanish left side featuring Pina, star midfielder Alexia Putellas and full-back Carmona. Carmona loves to get forward and create overlapping runs, while Putellas (seven) has been fouled more times than any other Spain player at the tournament, so Bronze may be drawn into making a few cynical challenges.
