Tourist, 24, is left fighting for life in Greece after collapsing in a church when her boyfriend proposed to her.
A woman has been left fighting for her life after she collapsed while she was being proposed to in Greece.
The unnamed 24-year-old from the Czech Republic is said to have suddenly fainted on Saturday, a few seconds after her boyfriend went down on one knee to ask her to marry him.
According to Mega TV in Greece, the proposal took place at the church of Prophet Elias in Englouvi, Lefkada, where the couple were holidaying.
Although she initially looked happy, she soon lost consciousness and fell to the ground, the report says.
Her partner, also from the Czech Republic, immediately raised the alarm and called for help.
Greek media indicate that the fire department, emergency medical services, and the army were all deployed to provide the woman with the medical attention she needed.
She is said to have been rushed to Lefkada Hospital, where doctors decided to transfer her to Ioannina.
It is alleged that initial tests showed that she had suffered an extensive cerebral hemorrhage, a subtype of stroke.
She is now at the Hatzikosta hospital, where she is said to be in stable but critical condition.
The church, popular among couples looking for a location for intimate moments, is perched on the highest point of the island.
