Johor Xtif campaign to boost sports and healthy lifestyle in community
THE Johor government is set to roll out the Johor Xtif campaign to encourage sports as a healthy lifestyle practice among residents. State Youth, Sports, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Committee chairman Mohd Hairi Mad Shah announced the initiative, which will engage families, schools, government agencies, and corporate sectors. Mohd Hairi revealed that Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi is expected to launch the campaign in August. 'The details will be shared at the launch, to be held in Mersing,' he said during a press conference after officiating the Bank Rakyat Johor International Marathon (BRJIM) 2025. The marathon, co-organised by the State Sports Council (MSNJ) and Bank Rakyat, aims to attract over 8,000 local and international runners. 'With thousands participating, BRJIM 2025 will not only showcase Johor globally but also boost the state's economy through tourism and services,' Mohd Hairi added. The event aligns with the vision of the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail, to establish the state as a Sports Nation by 2030. Scheduled for November 8-9 at Kota Jail, the marathon includes five race categories: 42km full marathon, 21km half-marathon, 10km run, 5km run, and a 2km Nuri Dash Run for children.

Sukma 2026: Johor begins early preparations with sights set on top-three finish
JOHOR BAHRU: Johor is targeting a top-three placing in the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in Selangor, said Johor Youth, Sports, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Committee chairman Mohd Hairi Mad Shah. 'I have asked all state sports associations to make early preparations, as instructed by the state government. We need be set an example for other states in terms of the development of athletes and sports hubs. 'I have set the target, which is the top three... but if we end up as overall champions, that will be a bonus,' he told reporters at the Larkin state constituency 'Ibadah Korban Perdana' programmehere today. He said this when asked to comment on Johor's preparations for Selangor SUKMA, which is expected to be held in August 2026. Johor has won the overall title at SUKMA once in the Games' 36-year history when it bagged 77 gold medals in the 2022 edition in Kuala Lumpur. Meanwhile, Mohd Hairi said various international-class sports events are set to be held in the state, including the Sultan of Johor Cup hockey tournament. He reiterated Johor's commitment to become a Sports Nation by 2030, in line with the decree of the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sultan Ibrahim during the opening of the State Assembly session recently. 'Tunku Mahkota Ismail decreed that Johor should be a Sports Nation by 2030, it is quite a huge task for me and my team to place Johor, and Malaysia in general, on the world stage. 'Johor must become a state that provides the best in terms of facilities, infrastructure, athlete development and academics, thus attracting investors,' he said. Earlier, during the 'Ibadah Korban Perdana' programme, a total of 32 cows donated by various parties, including from His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, were slaughtered and the meat was distributed to more than 500 residents of the Larkin state constituency, especially to the asnaf group and those in need.

Perak targets 20 entrepreneurs to expand market abroad
TELUK INTAN: Perak aims to target 20 entrepreneurs in the state to expand their market by showcasing local products abroad throughout this year. State Women, Family, Social Welfare, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Committee chairman, Datuk Salbiah Mohamed, said her party, in collaboration with the Perak State Entrepreneur Secretariat (STeP), is always trying to bring entrepreneurs to participate in various expos and exhibitions abroad. She said that among the exhibitions or trade expos that Perak entrepreneurs will be participating in are the 'Brunei Consumer Fair 2025', 'World Expo Osaka 2025' and 'Fine Food New Zealand 2025', which will take place this month 'I always emphasise to the agencies involved to jointly help entrepreneurs or companies that have the potential to be taken abroad (promote their products) by solving the problems (constraints) they face. 'The state government is indeed very supportive of Perak entrepreneurs who dare to explore the global market which actually provides wider and larger opportunities and space and not just being too dependent on the domestic market,' she said. She told reporters after officiating the release of a container of cordial products from Syarikat Ameen Products Sdn Bhd to Mali, Africa, at its factory in the Light Industry Park here today. Meanwhile, Salbiah said one of the challenges entrepreneurs face in expanding their businesses or increasing product capacity is the lack of industrial parks in several districts of the state. 'When some of our entrepreneurs want to expand their products or markets, they face constraints in terms of size to expand their products. 'So, the state government sees the need (to develop industrial parks) by identifying suitable areas,' she said.

Son sensed change in late father before departure to holy land
JOHOR BAHRU: The son of a Malaysian pilgrim who passed away in Makkah on Saturday due to a heart attack said he sensed a change in his father before he departed for the holy land two weeks ago. Muhammad Hazrul Haziq Misnan, 30, shared that his late father, Misnan Ahmad, 60, repeatedly urged him, as the eldest son, to always take care of the family. Upon learning that his father had been admitted to hospital following a heart attack, the family made a video call on Friday, not realising that it would be their final 'meeting'. 'At the time, he seemed stable. We were relieved when he was transferred out of the intensive care unit. He was able to speak and even raised his hand as usual. But then came the heartbreaking news that he had passed away. 'We accept it, as he passed away in the holy land, something many Muslims dream of. Allah SWT loved him more,' he told reporters when met at his home in Taman Istimewa here today. Muhammad Hazrul Haziq said his late father's excitement to perform the haj was evident, as he appeared full of enthusiasm and was already waiting in the car shortly after performing the subuh prayers. 'I sent my mother and late father to Senai International Airport (LTAS) at 6.30 am. He looked so full of energy and was eager to leave home,' he said. Misnan, who was the special officer to Johor Youth, Sports, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Committee chairman Mohd Hairi Mad Shah, died at King Abdul Aziz Hospital.
