1,000 fans gather in Shah Alam for SRG.OG's Riyadh showdown
SHAH ALAM: Though Selangor Red Giants ( failed to defend their Mid Season Cup x Esports World Cup (MSCxEWC) title in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, their fans remained upbeat.
About 1,000 supporters attended a watch party organised by and Moonton Games, publishers of MLBB, at Suasana Market Hall on Saturday.
Fans, clad in team colours, began arriving as early as 3pm for the 7.30pm Grand Final between Team Liquid Philippines (TLPH) and Former world champions TLPH defeated 4-1.
It's still a historic achievement for as no team had previously reached consecutive Grand Finals. took home US$500,000 (RM2,137,500) in prize money for their runners-up finish.
Eqrin Al Azim, 28, who came from Nilai for the watch party, said: "I have mixed feelings, but overall I'm happy with the team's performance. We were champions last year and finalists this year. Win or lose, they will always have my support."
Nazgewan Rusli, 22, from Klang, was thrilled that proved their critics wrong by making it to the final. "They were underestimated during the group stage and no one believed they could make back-to-back finals."
Rina, 20, from Bangi, said: "Previously, they couldn't beat Onic Philippines, but they did so in the semi-finals to reach the final. This showed that they've improved.
"I don't feel disappointed by this defeat to TLPH, as I had no expectations beforehand. Winning and losing are part of competition."
