NFL analyst thinks Taylor Swift held Travis Kelce back at Kansas City Chiefs last season

An NFL analyst has pinpointed Travis Kelce 's relationship with Taylor Swift as a potential reason for his struggles last season. While Kelce is a fan favorite among Kansas City Chiefs fans - and Swifties across the globe - stats from last year would suggest that the tight end is on the decline. His 823 yards recorded is the lowest in his career, for a full season, and in the recent Super Bowl he managed four receptions for 39 yards as the Chiefs were humiliated. Despite dropping retirement hints, Kelce confirmed that he would return for the 2025 season and, ahead of that, analysts have tried to pinpoint reasons for his decline. Among those was Eric Mangini, who said: 'His numbers were not terrible. If you look at his numbers compared to the tight end group, he still had an impressive season, it was just not Travis Kelce impressive. 'Then you look at his offseason, that is when I struggled with him going into last season'. An NFL analyst has said Kelce's relationship with Taylor Swift is a reason for his struggles Magnini - who previously coached the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns - continued: 'He had the relationship, we had the new TV show, he had the game show, he had the podcast, he was coming off a back-to-back short offseason. 'That is a lot of stuff for a guy that is that late in his career. One of the things I am really excited about going into this season is, he has not done none of that this offseason. It looks like he is taking some time to reload, this may be his last season.' The tight end teased the possibility of ending his career following the loss in the Super Bowl and admitted the grind of NFL life had driven him 'crazy' last season. To the joy of Chiefs fans, it was later confirmed that the 35-year-old would return for a 13th season however he did reveal that he would consider the 2026 season later 'down the road'. Kelce signed a two-year, $34.25million contract - with $17m guaranteed - back in April 2024. There is still one year left on that deal in Kansas City, where Kelce has played his entire career since being selected in the third round of the 2013 draft. The 35-year-old is already a three-time Super Bowl champion but the Chiefs failed in their bid for a historic three-peat. Kelce has, however, been enjoying his offseason alongside girlfriend Taylor Swift and recently attended an event together for the first time as a couple. At the Tight End University event, Swift and Kelce were clearly locked in on each other, including sharing some PDA in front of cameras. Swift has attended 23 NFL games since she started dating Kelce, all while having touring commitments. That number should skyrocket as Kelce's time in the NFL may be dwindling with the 'Anti-Hero' singer on his arm.

Eric Mangini calls out Travis Hunter's two-way NFL potential despite college domination

Eric Mangini (via Getty Images) Travis Hunter's dream of being the first full-time two-way player in the NFL in decades has been called into question by some of the sport's veteran statesmen, including former New York Jets and Cleveland Browns coach Eric Mangini. The Jacksonville Jaguars drafted a rookie wide receiver and cornerback mesmerized by his two-way play at the University of Colorado. But Eric Mangini thinks the grind of the pro game could be too much even for a talent as unusual as Travis Hunter's. Eric Mangini questions whether Travis Hunter can play WR and CB in the NFL Travis Hunter made headlines last year playing with the Colorado Buffaloes and their head coach, Deion Sanders. He took an eye-popping 118 snaps a game, playing leading roles on offense and defense and making a serious bid for the Heisman Trophy. The Jacksonville Jaguars are now counting on his unusual skill set to remake their roster and play him at both wide receiver and cornerback. That move might not be as smooth, though. "He's shown that he's built different, but there's a significant difference between college football and the NFL," said Eric Mangini."You're adding the five games plus whatever you're playing in the preseason. The quality of players you're playing against is good every week." Teams can tire Travis Hunter out, Tua's No. 91 ranking in Top 100 is "too high" | FIRST THINGS FIRST On the Breakfast Ball podcast, Mangini outlined why that might not work: 'I don't think that plan is necessarily going to work,' said Mangini. 'It's one of those things where, okay, if Travis Hunter is covering their best receiver, you're going to tell your best receiver, 'Hey, go run a go route all day. You're a decoy. We're not going to throw you the ball.' You're not going to know where he's going to be defensively.' In the meantime, the Jacksonville Jaguars are slowly acclimating Travis Hunter to the pro pace. In OTAs, he lined up nearly exclusively as a wide receiver, with few reps at corner. That could be part of a building-once-you-get-there plan—or an indicator of how the Jaguars plan to utilize him in the near term. Travis Kelce's Plan For Jaguars' Travis Hunter Slammed by 3-time SB Winning Coach

Travis Kelce's Plan For Jaguars' Travis Hunter Slammed by 3-time SB Winning Coach originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Travis Hunter has the NFL world divided on his two-way potential. The Jacksonville Jaguars' rookie is likely to keep both wide receiver and cornerback duties in the NFL. Advertisement While some believe that the 22-year-old will be able to live up to his dual role just like he did during his college days, many doubt the possibility in a league where he will go up against the greats of the game. The Kansas City Chiefs' tight end, Travis Kelce, shared a bold plan the NFL teams can use to stop Hunter during an episode of the "Bussin' With The Boys" show. Rebilas-Imagn Images; Doug Engle/Florida Times-Union "Teams are going to be going after him. They're going to try and make his day miserable... Dude, if he plays corner, they're just going to run deep balls at him all day," he said. "The wide receivers just take off on him all day. Just to try to get him tired. Why wouldn't you just attack him that way?" Advertisement Former NFL head coach Eric Mangini doesn't seem to be on the same page with Kelce. He made an appearance on the "Breakfast Ball" podcast and explained the flaw in Kelce's plan. 'I don't think that plan is necessarily going to work. It's one of those things where, okay, if Travis Hunter is covering their best receiver, you're going to tell your best receiver, 'Hey, go run a go route all day. You're a decoy. We're not going to throw you the ball.' You're not going to know where he's going to be defensively,' Mangini said. Hunter participated in both offensive and defensive drills in the mandatory minicamp and OTAs last week. The Jaguars haven't clarified how they will use their rookie, labeling it a situation-based decision. Advertisement Jacksonville gave up tons of draft capital to trade up and acquire Hunter. While it might be ideal for them to keep him on the field for as many snaps as possible, the coaching staff is aware of the consequences. Hunter seems to be enjoying his transition into the NFL. He has been confident about his two-way potential since the NFL Combine. It remains to be seen if he proves his worth to the Jaguars and shuts his critics while managing his health. Ex-Browns Head Coach Makes Stance Clear on Kevin Stefanski's Handling of Shedeur Sanders

Ex-Browns Head Coach Makes Stance Clear on Kevin Stefanski's Handling of Shedeur Sanders originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Kevin Stefanski-coached Cleveland Browns have a four-man quarterback competition heading into June's minicamp. Advertisement Veteran Joe Flacco, journeyman Kenny Pickett and rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders are competing for the starting spot. Flacco is considered the frontrunner because of his knowledge of the team's offense, but Pickett hasn't gotten much consideration for his performances. Sanders and Gabriel both showed flashes and could surpass Flacco at some point if they continue to impress the coaching staff. Sanders, the former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback, has also gained considerable attention from fans, who once doubted his ability to play at a professional level after he was drafted by Cleveland in the fifth round on day three of Aprils NFL draft with the 144th overall pick. Furthermore, by the end of one day of OTAs, he threw for three touchdowns and completed seven of his nine passes. However, Stefanski and the coaching staff went in a different direction by having him take fewer reps with the backups instead of the starters, which has puzzled fans and former coaches. 'It exploded the second he got here. Stefanski [is] trying to tamper it down.' Advertisement Despite the strong response from Mangini, Sanders doesn't seem bothered by the situation and instead has prioritized taking action and making the best out of the opportunity to one day earn Stefanski's trust to practice alongside the starters and possibly surpass Flacco by the end of the summer and start of the regular season. Shedeur Sanders' speeding violations get shock response from ex-Browns coach Eric Mangini

Two egregious speeding violations and a missed court appearance aren't exactly helping rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders' case for a roster spot on the 2025 Cleveland Browns. But as one former Cleveland head coach sees it, things could be much, much worse. 'I don't love it from a fifth-round draft pick,' Eric Mangini said of Deion during a recent appearance on FS1's 'The Herd' with Colin Cowherd. 'I don't love that it's happened multiple times.' Mangini, 54, then suggested the 23-year-old Sanders is struggling without the presence of his father and long-time football coach, Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders. 'I do think this is the first time he's away from his dad and there's going to be some growing pains,' Mangini said of the younger Sanders, who played for the famed 'Coach Prime' at Dallas' Trinity Christian high school, Jackson State and Colorado. Without the elder Sanders' watchful eye, Shedeur has been ticketed within the last few weeks for driving 91mph in a 65mph zone and 101mph in a 60mph zone, the latter of which led to the revelation of the former as well as a missed court appearance. The Browns have said they are handling the situation internally and Shedeur will take care of the tickets, all of which is fine by Mangini. When Cowherd criticized Shedeur's maturity, Mangini dismissed the separate speeding tickets as 'growing pains.' "This is like any kid who's away from home for the first time. There's gonna be a couple hiccups here and there." Eric Mangini and @colincowherd disagree on how big of a deal to make of Shedeur Sanders' speeding ticket. — Herd w/Colin Cowherd (@TheHerd) June 20, 2025 'Would I sell my stock on it like you are? Not because of a couple of speeding tickets,' Mangini said. 'Especially in the light of the problems the Browns quarterback room has had to deal with legally in the last few years — this is nothing.' Mangini didn't specify which Browns quarterback he was referring to, but it the likely signal caller is injured Deshaun Watson, who has settled nearly two dozen sexual misconduct lawsuits in recent years. Shedeur did not back away from his mistake when speaking to reporters at Browns minicamp. 'I've made some wrong choices personally, I can own up to them,' Sanders said. 'I made some not great choices. I learn from them. I learned.' Sanders recently completed his first minicamp with the Browns and is now off until July 18, when rookies are required to report to Cleveland's 2025 training camp. He recently signed a four-year, $4.6 million deal that included his $447,000 signing bonus – which represents the only guaranteed portion of the deal. That's significant, because if Sanders is facing a crowded depth chart at quarterback as he attempts to make the Browns as a rookie. The team currently has veteran Joe Flacco, journeyman backup Kenny Pickett and injured former starter Deshaun Watson, not to mention Shedeur's fellow rookie, Dillon Gabriel.
